Good Dealer Dealings - List Your Good Dealer Experience

Several dealers in Mass. will do a factory order for you at MSRP — Lev Kia (ask for Ken Russian), Herb Chambers, Gervais, and Mastria all will. (Herb Chambers marks them up once they hit the lot but not for orders.)

How were your experiences with each one? Did you end up purchasing?

Any places in New England that aren’t charging 5k markups?
I used Bald Hill Kia in Rhode Island. While interactions with the dealership were less than enjoyable, they did get me the vehicle I ordered in a reasonable amount of time at MSRP; though that may be more the luck of my order coming up for production.

Hello, I am from the Portland in my extensive search no dealer in Portland (even Seatttle/Tacoma) area, is selling at msrp. Markups between 5k-10K. The nearest dealership is Hilltop Kia in Richmond, CA however, wait time is 6-8 months (at the time I placed my order (Jan 2021).
@sharitab503 Did you get your delivery from Nowcar? If so, when and how did it go?

Hi, we are looking in the Portland area. Did they change you a premium? Thank you
Hi @Pacsean I called every dealer in Oregon. Weston is the lowest markup at $2995 on all trims as of about 1 month ago. Team Kia in Bend ($3000 over MSRP) actually ends up being about $500 cheaper than Weston because they either don't have - or don't pass along - the Portland / Oregon 1% taxes on businesses over a certain size that was enacted recently. Weston does, on top of the mark-up. All the other dealers are significantly higher from 4-5K to even 8-10K! Beaverton told me 8K and Ron Tonkin 10K! Weston and Kia of Bend both treated me well, but I still couldn't swallow the 3K markup.

I'm up on the East side of Seattle and same experience with dealerships in WA and OR. I decided since I have flexibility in my timeline to work with Dominic at i25 in Colorado. He's been great to work with and am on the list to order with him at MSRP. I have friends in the Denver area so depending on when I get a build slot and delivery I'll either fly in and road trip it back or just have it shipped to me.

Thanks, I had considered starting to call around Washington (beyond Vancouver which I have already covered) and Idaho, but hadn't gotten motivated to hit the phone lines again :) Did they mention the "Dealer Fee" at i25 of $695? That's what I've personally been told from a different salesperson at i25. The relatively small markup ($695 dealer fee) at i25 is probably one of the fairest prices in the West, but after the $2000 for covered transport to PDX, I'm almost right back at the price of those two local dealers. To be fair though it would save me about $800 off of Weston's price.

It is tempting to fly down there and drive back to save the shipping costs - I have a buddy in Grand Junction CO, and family in SLC, Utah along the way home - but the cost of the flight, cost of the gas, 19 hours on the road, and the majority of the break-in period being on the freeway claw back at that savings a bit. It might be a fun trip though.

Highly recommend Lev Kia in Natick, and yes speak with Ken! Very honest dealers and no surprises. I shopped and saw some dealers asking $10k premium!!

Hello,
Delivery is expected for Monday May 10th. The process is was extremely smooth up until the delivery process. At no fault to NowCar, there is a shortage of transport drivers, it took approx 1 to 1 1/2 - weeks just to secure a transport company. Outside of that the rest of the process was seamless.

I ordered mine from Murray Kia in Conshohocken, PA. They are one of the oldest KIA dealerships in PA. I'm getting mine for MSRP plus whatever rebates available at the time of delivery. They get about 7-10 allotments a month. My salesman is Roger and he's pretty good about walking you through the process. He was adamant about their dealership not marking up the price which 99% of them around here are doing. I had talked to several dealerships before including Abeloff KIA, so I already had an understanding of the ordering process and felt confident that he fully understood. I did put a $500 deposit down. I don't think you could go wrong with either it's just I live closer to Murray Kia.
Got mine on order yesterday with Murray Kia, it's not the closest dealer to me but at 15 miles away, I can't complain. Ditto on MSRP plus current rebates/financing offers. Roger is quoting 1-4 months for order to be picked up (sounds like he's got 20-30 orders in the pipeline). I was surprised they are #2 in PA (by 2 cars!) and reasonably up there nationwide.

Joined the Telluride club on Saturday. Great overall experience with Moritz Kia Hurst (near Ft Worth, TX):

3/12 Ordered Gravity Grey/Dune Brown SXP w/Tow
4/19 followed up, found out I got allocated a Dark Moss/Black SX, said no.
4/21 another customer cancelled as they didn't want to wait for the front bumper to be replaced (cosmetic damage in transit), put down deposit
4/30 car ready for pickup: SXP Nightfall Gravity Grey / Light Grey Nappa
5/1 drove up from Austin, picked up the car, they gave me $500 for my 2001 Pathfinder which was maybe generous lol, and best of all Moritz charges NO MARK UP. Just a sub-$1000 "make ready" which includes a thorough inspection, adding tinting, and detailing.

Great experience with Sam T and his finance guy Amir? at Moritz Hurst. Sam was honest and helpful the whole time, and managed my expectations. I was resigned to wait another 5? months to customer order a 2022 since I wasn't able to get my original ask and he found an option that I ended up being very pleased with.

Don't all dealers "make ready" the car for sale, including an inspection and detailing?

Did they tint the front windows for you?

Picked up my car from Garvey Kia this morning. Showed up the minute it opened as my check cleared yesterday afternoon.
Had it being washed while I signed my trade paperwork and got all my new car paperwork.

I was out of there in 30-45 minutes? Could have been quicker but was talking alittle.

I am in mass, they are New York, there was an rmv issue at registration because it’s done differently, I gave them a call, we worked it out and Im registered and all set.

would buy from them again 10/10. No last minute b.s. just a straight sale and me trying to get it quicker lol.

now that I’ve learned the tricks to register, I’d expect no issues with a future buy from them.

Thanks for your review and follow-up. I'm in Nashville and I contacted Cumberland today about a Telluride. They wanted a $3k dealer markup, but would give MSRP pricing to local residents. So maybe a good deal if you're a resident of Cookeville, TN, but pretty average/poor if not.
Did you buy there? Is that MSRP price only for orders or they'll sell to locals off the lot at MSRP? Also in middle Tennessee and having a hard time finding anything close to MSRP.

Glad you were able to get a sub-$1000 mark up. But make no mistake that was absolutely a Mark Up! Detailing and inspection are a given for any car from any dealer including new and used cars. Tinting is fine if it's what you wanted but probably could have gotten it better/cheaper somewhere else. Regardless, if the "make ready" charge is mandatory it was most certainly a mark up.

Not bad though, you got an amazing new SUV for an excellent price because these things are so well priced to begin with.

I have been looking in Portland as well and it seems pretty hopeless at this point. Weston did not respond to an email I sent a few weeks ago, although they had previously quoted me the same $2,995 you were quoted. Ron Tonkin quoted me $15k over MSRP on the SX I want to order. I had to work very hard not to use profanity in my reply email. I put in an order with NowCar at ~ $4k over MSRP, but I am 18th in line so who knows how that will turn out. Ron Tonkin will sell me a Palisade for less than MSRP, so I might have to go that route if my wife agrees.

Just took delivery of a 2021 EXP from Finnin Kia in Dubuque. Ordered with a 500 deposit late feb, came in friday.

MSRP, no stupid fees. Paid me very reasonably for my trade (2017 fusion, could have maybe got another 500 tops on a perfect day if i was really lucky).

Sales person, Tony was great with communication throughout the time.

Finance (Steve i think) was the best finance office I sat in. No pressure whatsoever, honest, and no hocus pocus. Extended warranty at very close to the deal from Muncie, slightly more, but different company.

They ship all over... I was an hour away, but Tony is active on the facebook groups if you want an honest deal in a few months.

Do the trip, do the trip! Great break in road trip. Did i25 to San Diego, 1,200 miles.

Now that I've taken delivery, I can wrap up our experience with Ray Skillman Kia Shadeland (on the east side of Indianapolis).

Overall, quite positive. Cristian (salesman) was easy to deal with and communicative. The general manager promised me MSRP and that's what they did. They gave me a good price on my trade-in (within a few hundred $$ of Carvana, which is more than made up for on the trade-in tax break), and since Cristian knew I was pressed for time he had all the paperwork ready and was waiting by the door when I arrived. The car was prepped perfectly, exactly as I requested -- tinted front windows, no dealer decals. Cristian was polite, prepared, and accommodating.

A couple small negatives:
  1. They forgot I had paid a $500 deposit when I ordered the car in February, and didn't apply it to the purchase until I reminded them. I think this was an honest mistake, they had to go dig up the receipt...I would just expect them to have a better system for tracking this.
  2. The finance guy tried to slip in window etching for $250 on the very last form (the big purchase/finance form) I signed. By this time I was really in a hurry, but I caught it...I said I didn't agree to this with Shawn (general manager), finance guy said no problem and took it off. Finance guys be finance guys, I guess.
All in all a very positive experience, it was all done via email/text until today when I set foot in the dealership for the first time, and I was in and out in a little over an hour (including a quick test drive of my new car and their appraisal of my trade). Cristian (sales guy) didn't try to play any games. I made it easy on them, they made it easy on me.

I had an amazing experience at Celebration Kia in Central Ohio. I walked on the lot back in February and was greeted by Colleen. Told her I was there to look at a Telluride (at that time I had no clue about the Telluride or the demand). She told me they sell at MSRP and she had an S trim that just came off the truck and had not been processed yet. I could look at but couldn't drive it until it was processed. Looked it over told her I was interested but wanted to test drive before committing. So I was scheduled to test drive next day after it got processed. Unfortunately the Kia system went down and it took a week before I was able to drive it. Colleen kepted me updated and made sure I was able to squeeze in a test drive before they sold it.

During that week, I found this forum and learned a lot. At the very end of February, I told Colleen I was looking for a SX and wanting it in May. She called me March 13th and said they had my dream car coming in on May 24th. Put down a deposit $1k and the waiting game began. I reached out in April and Colleen answered my questions and helped calm my anxiousness and gave ETA update of May 30th.

On May 6th, I saw my VIN on failcat and texted to ask for an update. Colleen replied and shared details including an ETA of the 20th.

On May 13th, She called to update me about the ETA. She set it up just right telling me she had an update and reminded me of the previous ETAs. I thought she was going to extend the date as SC had said the 24th. Instead she asked me what I was doing tomorrow. I was shocked and it took a second to realize my ride was here a week early.

I worked it out to pick up on my way home from work, test drive, then come back to do the paperwork. She texted throughout the day to collect any needed details ahead of time. When I arrived, she made sure I knew how things worked and off I went.

Came back with my husband and the needed additional paperwork. She went over the purchase price of MSRP, doc fees, tax, and the warranty ($2500). I told her take off the warranty and we have a deal. She immediately did as I asked. The managers encouraged her to try to get us to finance through them. They even offered a rate and term slightly lower than my credit union but I told them I was sticking with my own financing.

We did have a small wait for their finance guy. They had 4 Tellurides that came in on that truck and we all picked up after work on Friday. The wait was no big deal to me given the situation. The finance guy did offer us the standard extra packages. He accepted my no thank yous. He did offer the warranty again and also accepted my no thank you.

The store manager made sure I got copies of all my receipts including the deposit I did over the phone.

Colleen texted me Saturday to see how the family was enjoying the new ride and apologized again for the wait for finance.

I never felt pressured even when they were doing their up sales. Celebration Kia and Colleen made the process easy. I will be buying a used car from them for my teen in the next few months.
