• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Been having trouble getting this nailed down-

Is it possible to get Nightfall or Prestige without AWD? My local dealer is taking forever to get back to me.

Ty.

No. AWD is a requirement for both of these.

Okay, the vibration scares me, but I love nightfall and prestige...... some threads seem doomsday about it. Are we saying 2/3rds won't have the issue, or we just don't know.

Also, I am getting a 2022, so hoping to god they fixed it.

Funny- just heard this from my dealer - "the Nightfall is only available in AWD, but you can still get the SX Prestige in FWD."

I wouldn't be too concerned... a few issues on a forum is nothing in the grand scheme of all of the Tellurides made. At this point we are over two years into production.

And seriously, if the dealer can't figure this out, I would be even more concerned about all of the other parts of the buying process.

Just make sure you test drive it in the 60-70 mph range before signing the papers. Like @bruesjoh04 said, I think the problem sounds more common than it actually is. Of the nearly 20k members on here, only a small percentage have reported this problem.

I'm pretty sure the answer is no. I believe the Nightfall and Prestige are only with awd.

I test drove an LX AWD last week specifically to check if there was a vibration and there wasn't. Obviously some have issues and as others stated, people come to forums mostly to bring forth an issue. If there was no vibration, people wouldn't come here praising it.

I will be asking my dealer who is out of state to check for this vibration before they ship it to me.

but you can still get the SX Prestige in FWD
Maybe the dealer can do something different than what is on Kia.com. I don't see how to build SX Prestige FWD, but I do see EX Premium FWD as a option.

Unless things change in 2022MY, I think the answer is no for Nightfall, no for Prestige, but yes for Premium. Based on what the current builder site is on Kia, the following appears to be true:

  • EX
    • FWD - You can get an EX FWD with EX Premium Package that includes 7-passenger seating.
    • AWD - Adding Nightfall Package ($1,295) to EX FWD trim automatically adds the EX Premium Package ($1,695) and adds All-Wheel Drive ($2,000). So it requires AWD and is a $5,000 price difference from a FWD with no package and a $3,300 price difference from a FWD with Premium.
  • SX - You can get two options but both require AWD
    • SX with Nightfall ($1,295) and no Prestige adds AWD ($1,900)
    • SX with Nightfall and Prestige ($2,300) adds AWD
    • FWD SX cannot include either package, only base SX comes with FWD

You don’t want this car without AWD. The way it puts down power, the way it handles, it’ll be complete garbage with front wheel drive.

I hate to burst your bubble but once you get over 25mph you are in FWD mode but with more noise than FWD and less fuel efficiency. It’s all good, for those who want the performance AWD is great. I have to disagree, there is absolutely nothing wrong with FWD.

This is actually false. These are not running in fwd and only sending power to the back when needed. There is always power going to the rear.

There is a video on YouTube showing this.

YouTube says it so it must be true 🧐

It’s 2021 and there are plenty of reputable sources online.
Sorry must have hit a nerve with an ill attempt at humor. Didn't mean to offend. There are many reputable sources online including on YouTube. But a comment on a forum saying "There is a video on YouTube" without even providing source material is hardly a reputable source. I'm not even saying your argument was wrong. But there's no reason to believe it over the counter argument without a source.

My bad. I was already irritated when I wrote that. I edited it to remove comment.

I’m on my phone and don’t remember the YouTube channel. It was a Canadian dealer doing a demonstration specifically on the AWD. He stated that all the North American tellurides operated the same just different modes.

I will post when I find it.

I did find this video on the type of AWD they use. Looks like it's always active so there's no initiation delay and varies based on conditions. Shifts more to the back wheels for accelerating, turns, and loss of front traction. Which mode you're in will also effect the minimum % going to the rear wheels.

Great video. That’s essentially what was explained and demonstrated on the video I was talking about.

I also believe the US version has a awd lock feature when needed.

The Telluride doesn’t use the Dynamax system it’s called Active All Wheel Drive. AWD lock is disengaged after you hit 25mph. Yes the system is “on” but is FWD biased. If you put it on rollers to do any testing you have to put all 4 wheels on rollers because the rear wheels could turn a little and if you put it on a lift you need to use the eBrake so it doesn’t roll forward, that doesn’t mean you are getting performance all the time that means the system is looking for a traction problem to respond. This isn’t a 4x4, this is a FWD designed vehicle that has an AWD performance option add on. If you feel you need added acceleration on 2 more wheels at lower speeds and tricky terrain then go for it. But with FWD and good tires it’s a fantastic vehicle with fewer potential problems and less overall maintenance costs. By some people’s definition that makes it a better value. Bashing FWD doesn’t help justify the value of AWD acceleration. The handling, braking and safety features are identical in both transmission options.

Sorry just figured some of the people who dropped 32-43k on this forum might feel just as annoyed as I did hearing a passing comment of “complete garbage” as a way to describe our purchase.
