Does anyone know if Kia has planned anything different for the window sensors that keep people’s windows partially open? I have been reading about this (among other complaints).

do automakers acknowledge any of these changes internally with new model years?
 
I’m asking before I get rid of a perfectly reliable car for a telluride. Don’t want to have regrets.
 
I ordered my SXP on March 30th. I called last week to inquire as to where I was in the que and was told that I didn't make the cut for a 2021 and would be getting a 2022. Which is all well and fine as the dealer told me up front that it would be 4-6 months. Which put me at the end of Sept. with the full 6 months. I was hoping that it would come in sooner but resigned myself that it would be a long wait.

My question is, is it up to the dealer to reorder a 2022 for me or is it automatic that I go to the top of the list without the help of the dealer? My dealer didn't mention anything about that to me. So I'm a little concerned that they are dropping the ball and I'm going to be waiting even longer now. I'm thinking that I need to be all over my dealer to get in on the 2022's ASAP. It certainly wouldn't be fair is Joe Schmoe walked into the dealer on the first day that they accept 2022's and he jumps in front of me. Knowwhatimsayin'?

Yes dealers will need to keep everyone in same order. So will be important to stay in communication during this time.

We are still in limbo waiting for Kia to allow us to enter 2022 orders. I will post on the forum when they do come back up.

Is this how last year's MY changeover went, more or less? Seems odd that they haven't opened up KFOS since April, and here we are in June. I get trying to clear out accepted orders before switchover to MY22, but I would've expected them to have finished April orders a while back.

I’m asking before I get rid of a perfectly reliable car for a telluride. Don’t want to have regrets.
A problem experienced by a handful of hundreds of thousands sold. I’d suggest to test out the car thoroughly for all issues you are concerned with during your test drive before purchasing (ie, rolling down the window at highway speeds).

Fair points, and good reminders to specifically test the window sensor in MY prospective car. I didn’t do a good job of being more specific with the question, I suppose.

Do manufacturers tell their dealers about adjustments between model years to address little things like that? I.e., not full recall-worthy issues, but patterns nonetheless? If so, is there anything we can glean from 2022 updates when they come out?

Some patterns, such as the cracked windshield and the window motor sensor - and I’m only picking these as examples because I’ve begun reading the site recently, and these are what have stayed in my mind - are unlikely, but still patterns. There clearly seems to be a pattern for these, and not (pulling a random example of something I haven’t seen discussed because it doesn’t happen) a pattern of the glove box not closing.

My question is: I don’t know the car business, but I’d imagine this is how iterative design improvements happen. Right? I just don’t know what is discussed on any level (dealers versus internal R&D only).

I believe what you’re speaking about is a Technical Service Bulletin or TSB. A recall is only issued for a safety related issue and TSB’s cover the squeaks, the pops, the window problems and such. When a dealership repairs a car under warranty, the problem and the fix are sent to corporate. If enough vehicles have the same problem then a TSB is sent to all dealerships describing the problem along with the fix. This cuts down on your vehicle down time for your dealership already has the problem, the solution and the fix so that they will have parts al there to facilitate the repair.
So the answer is yes. The dealership reports a warranty claim to corporate. Corporate keeps a record of the repairs and issues a TSB in case there’s vehicles in the field to repair as well as coordinating with the factory whether a tweak to the production line is necessary. I have faith that the little things will be fixed without too much stress.

In all fairness one day into June.. I see them opening orders for sure this month.
Last year was very similar
 
Just a note of appreciation to everyone, especially StephenCantrelle, for keeping us posted on this switchover process. It's been super helpful to know how to navigate and gently advocate for ourselves through the process. I wouldn't have known it was time to speak with the ordering manager at my dealership to confirm we are still in our proper place in the queue without you all. I had a good conversation with the ordering manager and hung up much reassured that our 2022 Telluride will be in our driveway soon! Thankful for this community!

Looks like we are one step closer.

Got a memo today saying all unfilled 2021 Telluride Order Request(In Kdealer) are going to be deleted.

This does not effect people whose orders are in KFOS for 2021's and already have ETA's.

This indicates 2022 information is about to be released.

We as dealers will need to purify our list(call all clients that have orders pending to see if they are still wanting Telluride.)

For those that are still valid and waiting we will re-enter as 22 Tellurides and adjust if clients are wanting to change color, options, etc..

WE will enter these FIFO to keep clients who have waited the longest as priority.



This is a good sign that ball is moving in right direction.

Will update as mentioned before, as news comes.

The LX has a Gloss Black Front Grille with Chrome Trim. S, EX, and SX have the Gloss Black Front Grille with Satin Chrome Trim

The 10.25-inch Thin-Film Transistor (TFT) touch screen display with three-way split-screen functionality is now standard on all trims

All trims now have standard navigation*

Dual-zone automatic temperature control and rear automatic temperature control are now standard on all trims

Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control-Curve* (NSCC-C) and Highway Driving Assist* (HDA) are now standard across the board

The S trim now comes standard with a wireless phone charger*

EX Premium has High Beam Assist* (Another change after reviewing material)

Appears LX and S models will not have 2nd and 3rd row usb ports according to material(This could change on final update)
I'm a little confused. If a Telly isn't knightfall why would it have satin black grille? Seems odd all Telly's would have black grills now?

And when they say Knightfall's will have new wheel caps, I assume that is just for the new logo but the general wheel design (which I didn't like) is the same?

Got the 2020 LX here. Besides the terrible headlights, the auto-climate would have been my next wish. I like my carplay google maps.

I am surprised there is no powertrain upgrade option for the higher trim levels. Crazy that my $33K version has the same engine as the $55K version...
Keep in mind limiting changes, especially something as major as a different engine, allows kia to maximize factory output & efficiency.

Read carefully; it said “LX has a Gloss Black Front Grille with Chrome Trim. S, EX, and SX have the Gloss Black Front Grille with Satin Chrome Trim” – Nightfall also blacks out the trim around the grille (and everywhere). Presumably the grille will have a different appearance to incorporate the new logo for 2022.

I bet we’ll know more (and get pictures!) when things are actually announced.
