I ordered mine in November and am finally getting it in a few weeks - but after all this wait, the VIN/window sticker I’ve received includes the tow package which I specifically declined and wasn’t on my order invoice with the dealer. This adds $800 but I’m also annoyed to have this not be exactly what I ordered after waiting all this time.
How do you handle this? Should the dealer honor the original order price, which was MSRP for non-tow? Am I just SOL in Telluride-crazy land?

I would say you’re SOL… Unless you wanna wait for you for them to re-order you a car.
In this climate I’d be shocked if they discounted you the price of the tow package.
On the upside, in my opinion the factory tow package increases desirability if you ever go to sell.

Yeah....SOL....I just got my window sticker and the factory added carpet floormats for a few hundred. I've already received my Weathertech HD's so have no need. Dealer won't subtract it.

Yeah, they added mats too even though we had a long complicated conversation at the time of order about how those weren’t included and you had to buy them at retail.

Talk to the dealer and let them know your disappointed with what you clearly ordered and what they received for you, ask if there is anything they can do about the additional cost which appears to be close to 1K. Perhaps they will allow a discount for the unordered features, if they do then its to your gain, if not then you need to decide if those features are worth it for you. You can always sell new floor mats, you can't remove and sell the tow package.

The dealer invoice for the tow package is $739 and the MSRP is $795 and the floor mats invoice at $174 with MSRP at $210 maybe you can talk them into pricing the additional unordered features at invoice, its not much but maybe they will do it. The dealer has to pay Kia for the extra features so its not likely they will throw them in for free.

If your close to MSRP, I wouldn't fret over a few dealer add ons in this current market. Tow hitch is always a useful item, even for a bike rack.

FWIW my sales person said the floor mats are included no matter what and it's misleading that they show them as an option when ordering

That's extremely misleading...personally I can't understand why they don't come free with a $50k vehicle.

or give the opportunity to upgrade without having to purchase the carpeted ones

Not true. I didn't order floor mats, so I didn't get them. At least not from reputable dealers on this forum. Sounds to me like your dealers aren't putting in an order at all but are just selling you a car that came in to their lot that closely matches what you want. When I ordered, my dealer sent me a screenshot of exactly how the order went in, with final pricing. I ended up getting a 2021 MY instead of the 2020. So the only variation in pricing was the exact amount of increase Kia Corp added to the 2021 invoice. They are scamming you and I wouldn't take delivery. If they are scamming you before you even buy the vehicle, that makes you a great mark for service scams in the future. ("Your brake fluid needs flushing earlier than usual", "we need to change your air filter early", or "your brake pads need changing now...") You could try reporting the dealers to Kia Corp in California, but that will certainly force you to go elsewhere to place a new order.

At least demand to see the print out of the order they submitted.

I did get a screenshot of the order and it's exactly what I expected based on what she laid out. It sounds like there's a possibility that the floor mats didn't have to be included but I'm not throwing a tizzy about $200. I'll most likely upgrade but at least I don't have to immediately now. I'm not sure how that led you to service scams but I don't care as long as they change my blinker fluid regularly.

LOL! I would fight a $200 extra charge for something I clearly didn't order, but that's me. But for the other poster who got the Tow package "add on" this is unethical behavior and is why car salesmen have earned the reputation they typically have. If we don't fight back, we get taken advantage of. I chose to fight the BS. But that's just me. That's what makes this such a great country!

BTW, my blinker fluid gets changed every 100 miles. Is that too often?

I did get a photo of my order from the dealer as well and really doubt they went around me to make $10- 15 in profit. I'm certainly not going to raise a stink beyond mentioning it at closing and asking for invoice pricing on them. If they don't agree....oh well, I'll save or sell them.. I've heard of some people getting over a grand in accessories added by the factory so I guess I'm lucky in that respect.

No I get it, in my case they at least told me the floor mats had to be added so I expected them included in my order. Whether or not they truly had to be added is a different story.

You can find black carpet mats on Ebay anytime for $50-100 for the entire set so it must be prevalent. I use the the plastic mats in winter the prefer the carpeted ones in the warm weather and summer. It makes the car feel and look more high end.

When I ordered my Telluride, the dealer told me that *something* had to be added in the same category as the floor mats for the order be accepted by Kia. Since I didn't want the carpeted floor mats, he instead ordered the $60 cargo net. Will come in handy, at least, and cost way less than the floor mats.

That's ridiculous. Sad there are so many unethical dealers out there.

If you keep your cars a long time like I do, you never know that factory tow package could come in very handy. I know I will not buy a car without it. I'm on q few RV forums, and I see postings almost every day "I sure wish I had bought the tow package, never thought I would ever be towing anything".
