Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

Kia of Cerritos, CA is doing +$10k markup on MSRP.
Had a very rude experience.
Took a random afternoon to go test drive and see how much we could get out of our Jeep Rubicon trade in. Majority of the time was spent getting the value we wanted. The woman that assisted us was very nice, the male salesman she transferred us to was not. We finally got a trade in value of $35.5k but then our payments would be 533 for 5 years. Doesn't make sense. In the end we're paying 67,700. I love the kia and got my wife to love it, but I don't love it that much lol. So the guy gives us the numbers, he's rounding off, not the exact and we're telling him it doesn't make sense. We hadn't started trying to lessen the markup or begin any talks about the kia yet and his frustration was over us not accepting the total price because he spent so much time, 4 mins total, going back and forth with his manager to get us the trade-in value we wanted. He snatched the paper from the table and walked off. What a B=#$%. Unfortunately couldn't get his name. The female apologized for him, but it ruined the experience.

We chose a random weekend. First dealer we called and they had what we wanted. The nightfall SX in black with brown interior. Supposedly hard to find and never have it. Pretty lucky on our end I guess. They said it wouldn't be here for long and someone just bought cash for it, no hassle and we saw them drive off. We told them sorry we're not all rich old white men and neither are all of your customers. Update of 3 weeks later. The one we test drove and wanted is still there :)

I saw there was a dealer review listed for South Hills Kia in the Pittsburgh area under good dealer ratings from last year; however, things may have changed there. My experience from this weekend is that they are charging 2k over MSRP. They had a Nightfall SX Prestige Telluride available this weekend from an order that fell through and the salesperson claimed that everyone in the area is charging way above MSRP and that they were "only" charging 2k over. I then told him that Cochran Kia was charging MSRP and that I was not interested. Others may have had positive experiences but I just wanted to share my experience, as there are other dealers in the Pittsburgh area charging MSRP.

Car Pros in Tacoma, WA. Offered me the below SX-P nightfall (sticker attached), arriving late July, for 10K (!!!!!) over MSRP.

Never should have to pay over MSRP on any vehicle no matter how popular. Just throwing money away if you do.

I had a similar experience when talking with South Hills Kia this week. They mentioned that the $2k charge on top of the MSRP is a nonnegotiable item. The salesperson stated that the fee covers state inspections and the first oil change. The document fees are an additional fee above and beyond this markup. The salesperson also didn’t have knowledge on the 2022s and didn’t seem to be interested in taking my order for a 2022 yet.

Cochran is charging MSRP with no other required add-on fees. Cochran also covers state inspections, the first oil change, and unlimited car washes just for buying the vehicle from them.

All, here are a list of dealers charging over MSRP out west. Don’t waste your time:

Fiesta Kia - Abq Nm (3500 over),

Santa Fe - SF NM (2450 over)

Pete’s Kia - Amarillo TX (4000 over - acted like I was an idiot for even asking if they sold at MSRP)

Casa Kia - El Paso TX (4,690 over)

Pitre Kia - Las Cruces NM (5000 over)

Not any better over here in the East. Before settling on Sussman Kia, I called:

King Kia - Gaithersburg, MD - $6,500 over
Scott Kia of Springfield - $5,000 over
Allentown KIA - $7,000 over

Thank God for this forum and being able to search for where people bought their vehicles outside of Philadelphia.

Allentown Kia was 10k over when I was there.

Drive to Muncie, Indiana. It's not that far!!

Local cuckoo clock dealer here in NJ. These are being sold as USED… no Prestige, no Nightfall, and likely no tow package. They’s truly crazy…

Do I have a story. We arrive looking for a Telluride.

There are four available that just showed up that morning. None, not one has the msrp sticker on the window. Red flag right away.

We take it one out for a test drive, my the one we take out is a Moss green - Nighfall -SX with the prestige package. Msrp is about 50k. We know that our trade in was appraised to about 19k. There is still 9k owed on it. Salesperson is really nice, she lets us take it out for a test drive. I like the truck, but prefer one without the prestige package. I didn’t expect to haggle on the price at all cause these things are selling like hot cakes.

Now back of napkin math, 50k plus license and doc fees and tax looking at maybe 57k. But with the trade Im looking to knock it down to 48k plus 2k down now looking at 46k. Excellent credit so we were looking at the 1.9 apr for 66 months so monthly comes out to $720. Those were my numbers.

Sales lady looks at inventory nothing coming in, it’s a hot seller take it today. Blah blah, asks if we are trading in say yes, takes our keyes to asses. 30 min later comes back with a piece of paper on it it says, congratulations monthly payment of $867 it’s yours, this of course included the trade in.

No apr, no monthly terms were detailed. So many red flags.

I tell her “listen I gave you a chance to be upfront and transparent, why do the Tellurides not have the window stickers? Not one has it, but every other car in the showroom does. Another thing what did you appraise the car to?"

She said 13k. OK so we owe 9k so only 4K was going to the cost of the Telluride and on top of that they wanted 3K down payment. I say no thank and tried walking away.

Her manager comes to try and persuade us into buying, I said what are the apr and terms? On this piece of paper? He says 4% at 72 months.

So let’s recap, $867 at 72 months with a 4% apr brings the loan to 62,424. Now add in the 4K for the trade in, And the 3K down for a total of $69,424.

While the Msrp for the truck was 50,725. For a markup of $11,699. (Minus the tax and title fees)

Stay away from this place. Avoid it, I know dealerships are bad, but this one takes the cake.

This is why you negotiate a price, get to monthly payments later. Negotiating from a monthly payment perspective, there are way too many variables where they can screw you.

What a bunch of pricks.
Janesville Wisconsin Kia Janesville has a 2020 AWD Sangria Red EX with 28,500 miles on it. Every option but no fog lights or ambient lighting. Looked on the lot today and they had it for $49,999 plus a $299 dealer fee and a $299 vehicle restraint fee whatever the hell that is so it was already over 50 grand. Darn thing brand new in 2020 was less than that what the hell are they thinking.

They are thinking "some fool will buy this used car at this price."

My order is coming up on 9 months now and still no updates. My original salesman Charles and now the sales manager Carlos who entered my information into their system no longer work there.
Oh no, 9 months? That is a long time. Were you able to get anyone to tell you what is going on with your order?

Sounds like Mark Kia.....not a fan.
Please let me know what dealer. My wife and I will be moving to Prescott and will be purchasing a Telluride so finding a good dealer is important to us.

thanks

Ron

That's why you have to special order. They can't charge you over MSRP then
