Bad Dealer Dealings - List Your Bad Dealer Experience

I did contact Brandon as well. He did mention it would be MSRP + $695 dealer fee + shipping with 4-5 mo wait. Which is going to cost more than 2K compared to Kia of Puyallup with 6-9 months wait. Will confirm once again on the timeframe.
Kaelin @ Puyallup priced our first build we considered at $3339 over MSRP on 8/02 w/ 12mo wait.

The $695 dealer handling at i25 isn’t a market adjustment like Puyallup et al. They’ll still charge their own dealer handling fee as well to prep the car. We can’t drive 1200mi with a high needs toddler in a short timeframe, and the cost of multiple stops/stays was a wash with the shipping fee for us, so the $1800+$695 was still worth it to avoid giving money to the outrageous “adjustment” dealers, and instead give business to a reputable, no-bull dealer. We’ve never paid more than MSRP.

Bad dealer experience. Visited Parkway Kia in Kingwood, Texas yesterday and the rep told me they are getting 12-15k over MSRP on Tellurides. He said they have a Telluride with all the features I wanted that is ordered and will arrive August 15, but I need to PRE-PAY.

Needless to say, I am still in the market for a Telluride.
you live by me lol. I talked to them and another kia dealer near here i think its called Freddy Kia. Basically I told them i know places out of state that will sell for MRSP and was looking to see what they can do for me here in Houston. They basically said if i know where to get it MSRP then i should go there because all of Texas will be marked up.
I found a few salesman by accident while watching Telluride youtube videos, one guy in Missouri makes videos showing the car features and stuff and he sells alot at MSRP. I actually went with someone who left a comment about a great sales guy in Colorado he's a straight shooter no BS i like him. He even told me he has worked at many dealterships in his 20 years in the business and can only recommend maybe 3 because most of them are shady.

Anyways they do charge a $1,000 down payment to order one, but like others have said I dont see a problem with it because its going towards the car and if your getting a 50k car you should have 1k in your couch cushions laying around lol.

But let me know if you want the information. It is like a 4 month wait, was 2 months but its getting longer. I originally ordered Gravity Grey a month ago and then seen a Wolf Grey one on the road yesterday and changed my order lol. It will be worth the wait though.

Just sayin, you might want to check out Overfurf Kia in Kennewick, WA since they are selling at MSRP - noticed their name has been floating around in the thread but throwing it out there. It would save you 2k and the dealer is about 3.5 hours east of Puyallup. Maybe use some of the stashed cash to make a pit stop at Minors in Yakima. I wouldn’t pay a dealer markup which is why I ended up going to Overturf. The only “increase” I had was the MSRP adjustment straight from the factory which was in the ordering contract that I’d pay that difference. From time I ordered to pickup it was $700 more. Probably the only down side is it was a 9 month wait for me (initial order October 2020 to pickup July 2020) but might not be that long now. The wait was well worth saving money on a ridiculous dealer markup. Just my 2 cents and worth what you paid for. 😊
I live in Vancouver, WA an reached out to Overturf from the contact you gave me and they told me I wasn’t in there service area so they couldn’t help me. Thought it was odd so i felt they didn’t want my business so I went elsewhere.

The $695 charge is a document fee, somewhat regulated by law and maybe limited by some states. So, each dealer is required to charge the same amount to its customers. Only way to bypass the fee is for the dealer to lower the MSRP by $695, but document fee is still charged.

…we know that. That’s why I was telling that person the $695 isn’t a market adjustment like the dealer they’re considering, and they’ll still have other fees baked in too.

I have wanted to test drive a 2022, but no dealer in Huntsville or Decatur AL even had one on the lot to test drive. I called Kia in Franklin (Nashville , TN) to see if they had one I could test drive, they had a few that had came in the day before, so we took off to check one out (We live 2 hours south) . Before we can even see the car the salesperson informs us that due to the market and shortages that there will be AMV (adjusted market value) added to the sticker price of 8-10k.
Well we mainly came to test drive it so we went out to check it out. This was not the top of the line SX Prestige but an EX with same motor and AWD. Well it had plenty of room, power, and creature comforts. Needless to say, I fell in love with it.
Now the crazy part… the MSRP sticker price was $46,055. The side sticker with the AMV was $22,995 plus an overpriced cell phone holder and mud flaps just for an extra kick in the rear. So over 50% markup to $69,448!!

WTH??? Basically he says because they can, and are selling off the truck sight unseen. I called Decatur Kia and salesman told me they don’t add anything to MSRP but they go fast. I got online and "built" it, then ordered what I wanted, at MSRP.

Just interesting how unscrupulous some dealers can be. I would never purchase anything from Greenway Kia in Franklin TN. (sorry for the crappy pics)

Thanks for the info. Do you have the breakdown on the $3339. I did ask multiple times in my call Catherine Nelson and she did mention it is only $1999 + MSRP. Honestly i would like to give business to a reputable dealer, but just thinking about the double powertrain warranty and free oil changes.

Will check with Puyallup again on the final fees. They are asking me to come down to the showroom to order and for a credit pull.

Do not let them do a credit pull.

I don’t, just the screenshots I provided. I built the same model with those options Kaelin shared and the “vehicle price” was $3339 more than the msrp build. I told them no thanks, that I can get exactly what I want from the other dealer at MSRP and 1/3 of the wait time. (4-5mo vs 12mo; someone else here had said they were given a 15mo timeline).

The only fees my sales person mentioned was the dealer documentation fee (which I believe is capped at $150 in WA) and the licensing fee which they said would be about $700. All together I was told it should the $1,999 markup (includes oil changes+extra powertrain warranty), the $150 dealer doc fee, the ~$700 license fee, and state sales taxes added to MSRP. I'm sure the finance guy is going to try a bunch of extras but from what I can tell that's what I'm expecting to be the OTD price when my order does show up. I know a few other members to the forum recently took delivery of their vehicles so maybe they'll see this thread and chime in on what ended up being their experiences on signing day. Oops, forgot to add this was at kia of Puyallup in WA state as well.

Hi all,

I've been doing some recent research on dealers in the NE and thought I'd contribute as I've gotten so much great info from here!

A few amazing dealer updates (many have been mentioned before, but adding them all)

Smithtown Kia - Smithtown, NY - $5,000
Island Kia - Staten Island, NY - $5,000
DiFeo Kia - Lakewood, NY - $9800 markup on an EX
Kia of Englewood - Englewood, NJ - $10,000
Destination Kia - Albany, NY - 10%
Danbury Kia - Danbury, CT - $10,000
Executive Kia - Wallingford, CT - $1,000
Jim Shorkey Kia - Irwin, PA - $1495 paint protection warranty, additional $1,000 if out of state
King Kia - Maryland - $6,000
Matt Blatt Kia - Tom's River, NY - $6,000
Kia West Nyacy - West Nyack, NY - $2500 (EX)
Scott Kia of Springfield - Springfield, PA - $5,000
Raceway Kia - Freehold, NJ - $5,000
South Kills Kia - McMurray, PA - $3,000
Kia Schenectady, NY - $7,500
Kia East Hartford, CT - $4,000

Hope this is useful.

I'm seriously tempted to start tweeting to Kia and these dealers very publically. I know Kia doesn't care and its all about supply and demand, but some of these places are advertising this is MSRP and not an upcharge.

I'm probably wasting my time i'd imagine...

Good research! BTW, the Toms River and Lakewood dealers are in NJ, not NY. (There is a Lakewood, NY, but it’s at the western edge of the state, way out of the tri-state area.)

A few more to add…

Liberty Kia, Ramsey NJ - $5,000 markup

Motion Kia, Hackettstown NJ - Varies by trim, up to $5,000 on SX

Sansone Kia, Avenel, NJ - A few people have stated they have gotten MSRP here, but two people on the Facebook group have stated they now add a $2,000 Lo-Jack type add-on (completely unnecessary with the Kia connected services)

Looks like Nutley Kia is now the only option for MSRP in NJ. Hope they stay there.

BTW, has anyone else noticed how insanely low dealer new car inventories are now? I’m seeing dealers showing 3-5 new cars in their inventory.

Sorry for the typos on the states!

When I went to pick up my Telluride last month, their lot was basically empty. The salesman said they're essentially all factory order sales now, on all models.

I've been researching too and thought I would add what I have learned about mark-ups(I'm in Charleston, SC but am looking all around me). I've been looking at S Trims. Some are estimates because I didn't see the sticker but can guesstimate based on the options they said they had:

Stokes Kia (Charleston): $5K
Kia Country (Charleston) $3400
Superior Kia (Orangeburg, SC): $4-6K (estimate based on failcat allotment, but was quoted $45,703 for an S trim)
Paramount Kia of Asheville: $10k
Kia of Greer, SC: $10K
Benson Kia of Spartanburg, SC: $6K
Myrtle Beach Kia: $3K package added (cargo tray, pin strip, mud flaps, wheel locks, nitrogen, 3 yr key replacement)
Lumberton Kia, NC: Wouldn't give me a price over the phone due to 'competitive market' but said up to $10k markup on 22 Tellurides

Good news?
Henderick Kia in Cary, NC: MSRP (allows order with a $1K refundable deposit)
Ricart Kia in Columbus, OH: MSRP (let's you know about incoming allotment and 'reserve' one coming in)

Is this purely dealers trying to take advantage of the situation? They aren’t paying anymore than their normal invoice are they? It’s really disgusting. I’d think at some point Kia would be concerned about this damaging their brand.

Two and a half years later... still going on. Kia just can't manufacture enough on an annual basis to meet demand.
