• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... April 2021 Infotainment Update?

Now that I've dealt with the "updated" screens for a while now. I don't mind them as much, but I absolutely hate the radio tubes. They need to go. Ideally the next update would add widescreen android auto.

One thing I noticed is that Kia's navigation routing can be really weird about its route choices. Recently did a trip that normally google maps just makes you drive down a rural highway for 30 minutes. But Kia's nav made me do basically a "step ladder" route that ended up on the same highway. Its only in the rural areas I've noticed that Kia's route choices are really odd.

I just updated to Apple iOS 15.1 and my issues have gone away, Knock-on-Wood!

Mapnsoft shows the latest update now coming 11/1 for download.

I am not trying to start rumors and I am not sure this applies, but I found this in the Stinger forum today.

Post #83 shows an European update in Sept that has no purple. I don't know if the European market gets updates first, would seem logical as they sell more vehicles over there, but I'm keeping my fingers crossed as I haven't pulled the trigger on updating my 2020 Telluride based off of the comments on this site. The biggest downside to my decision is the fact my maps are basically useless on or offline.

Again, I'm not trying to get anyone's hopes up but I'm hopeful we get that update Nov. 8.

@DMoMax - please explain what you mean regarding that your maps are basically useless on or offline.

It is my understanding or assumption that the maps are updated with each new release and I've found them to be useful. I also assume (dangerous, I know) that other applications like Google Maps, etc... are probably more up to date but I have no idea how often Google actually updates their data.

Thanks for any insight you might be able to provide as I didn't apply the last update due to all of the negative comments regarding the graphics.

Also of note is that I do not subscribe to UVO and I'm not sure how that might affect the navigation application.

I'm guessing he means that the maps are out of date because like many of us, he hasn't updated to the terrible new UI.

I'm curious why people even bother with the stock navigation system? Not trying to start a flame war and I know everyone feels differently about these things, I'm wondering if there's something I'm missing about the stock system that people really like. To me it seems less capable compared to Apple Maps, Google Maps, and Waze.

Good question.

Yes! Absolutely, without an actively updated “stock” unit, as you call it, it will always lag behind the others you have mentioned.

To start, I think it is a standard feature for upper trim levels.
So, like it or not, you got it.

Ok, so why use it? Well, when driving alone, I feel it works better for me.

I have found it quite useful on long trips when in areas where cell coverage is spotty (or unavailable), and I am needing only a Point A to Point B function. For example, it is current enough for most hotel locations.

And, I find it easier (on long drives) to play a variety of music using the radio, obtain general weather conditions, and access other head unit features when needed, rather than fumbling back and forth between it and CarPlay.

To many, these may not sound like useful things, but for me, it’s enough. I am less distracted when driving, and, I find my comfort zone quicker and stay in it longer.

Thanks! Those are good reasons, especially the cell coverage challenge. The mobile phone apps do have some technology built in to cache routes so they persist when the signal drops, but I'm not sure how reliable that is. I'm personally in coverage 99.9% of the time, so it's easy to forget that's not true for everyone. I guess there are some good reasons to use the stock system!

For me, it is the directions on the HUD.

That's a really good point. I've been using AA and Carplay for so long that I forgot that the stock system integrates with the HUD. I love the HUD, and it burns me up that it doesn't work with mobile phone based routing! It's probably wishful thinking that they would/could ever add this in a software update (along with widescreen AA).....

irosenberg,

I do like using the map in my Telluride but since I am not ready to update the system my maps won't find any address I put into it for directions. It does remember saved addresses prior to whenever it stopped working. It still looks the same and functions just fine following my location but if I put a new address in it will not be able to select it as a destination.

As I understand it, if you update the navigation, you update the UI, and that is what I am trying to avoid until the next update in Nov.

I did recently subscribe to UVO and it did not fix the navigation. I hope that helps anyone who may think that it will. Since UVO doesn't automatically update online, you have to download the updates and install them yourself, I can't see how it would unless they change that option in the future.

I completely agree except for the convenience.

The destination ETA is not nearly as accurate as Google Maps over long periods of time. My system map can be off as much as 17 min on long trips over the accuracy of Google Maps which is taking traffic into account. However, I prefer the look of the Telluride map and information about upcoming turns and exits (graphic interpretation of lanes and HUD display) more than Google's version.

Plus, my phone will sometimes boot me out of Android Auto and I have to unplug and replug my phone, open it, give it permission and reselect Android Auto from the menu on the display. I'm no expert and I am sure there is a way to stop that from happening but I haven't figured that out yet.

Just found out that my wife’s ‘21 VW Tiguan w/out built-in navigation will display turn-by-turn directions in the gauge cluster if using Apple Maps via CarPlay. Only Apple Maps does this, not Google Maps via CarPlay.

Assuming the Telluride doesn’t have any kind of functionality like this on the HUD - only directions from the built-in navigation, period?

I am driving a 2020 Telluride. To be honest, I referenced the display when looking for ETA or upcoming turns. I will have to load something and see if it displays on the instruments or HUD. I cannot attest to the 2022 capabilities. It is very possible it can do that.

I can say the model year 2021 HUD does not show any navigation info from CarPlay or Android Auto (only the stock system). Would be amazing if they added this feature but I’m not holding my breath.

Not at the moment, its a shame too cause its such an amazing feature, even my 2019 Honda had it integrated, Im assuming they do this (just my opinnion) as a way to push people to use their built in navigation option

I definitely agree! But for me thats why i like it! I notice that its always searching for a better direction or looking for traffic jams/construction. My wife and i took a trip down to Tennessee but on our way back before getting out of Tennessee something happened on the highway traffic stopped no movement.
I dunno what happened but it got me off the highway took me through some back roads including a one lane dirt road... got us out of there and pass all that junk! And kept us on schedule.. but everyone has their personal preference... i was just sharing mines...
