Anyone buy an extended warranty on the Telluride?

Just picked up our Telly today. Finance manager quoted about $3800 CAD all in for the 10 year/200,000km extended warranty. This was after a $500 discount he offered up front.

We told him we needed to think on it for a few days. He then offered to throw in their basic paint protection fill for free if we signed up for any term of extended warranty. We had oroginally declined the ppf at the dealership as I found some cheaper options elsewhere. Has anyone been able to get the price down any more then this at a Canadian dealership?

I wasn't ignoring you all o. This. I wanted to make sure he was ok with me sharing his information.

Please call or email Gaston Gomez at Fort Bend Kia.

His price on the 10year/100k should be just slightly under $1550 on a new Telluride that is under 500 miles on the Odo.

Additionally, he can sell the warranty to out of state buyers.

Hi All - I just picked up my Telluride on October 1st, and decided to go with a 10yr/120k mileage warranty. After shopping around and comparing different third party offerings, I just signed the contract with Gaston at Fort Bend Kia. Total cost for 10yr/120k miles/$0 deductible Platinum warranty was $1,923.

FYI, in case there are any other folks who might go past 100k miles before 10 years is up.

Gaston has the best prices.

Under 500 miles? Shoot, we just passed 1,200. Guess we will trying calling to get price anyway as we just decided to pull the trigger on an extended warranty.
Try Kia Of Muncie. Ask for Craig. I think you can still buy one from him. But don't delay any more.

Anybody have the actual service contract (not brochure) for the fine print concerning the Platinum protection plan from Kia (JM&A)? Its like pulling teeth trying to get it from the dealership and can't seem to find it online. (Dealership wants me to sign before even reading it). Thanks

Here is the fine print for Muncie's Extended Warranty.
Pay special attention to item 15 in the exclusions on page 4. Since electronic components have been mentioned a few times in this thread, note that "Audio/Security or other systems not factory installed are not covered"

Happy reading,
Z.

Quick note: The T&C linked above is SRKD0102. The contract that I signed last week referenced T&C SRKD0201, which is available electronically at S4687.pdf. I spent more time than I should have with each version side-by-side and could not find any differences across all 12 pages.

Thanks for sending that over. One interesting exclusion:
THE CORRECTION OF OIL CONSUMPTION, REPAIR OF WORN RINGS, OR ANY REPAIRS FOR REDUCTION IN ENGINE EFFICIENCY THAT MUST BE PERFORMED ON YOUR VEHICLE WHEN A MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN HAS NOT OCCURED;

Although this may be similar to the Kia 100,000 mile power-train warranty.

Also, it might be more convenient to purchase the extended warranty from your local dealership:
IF POSSIBLE, RETURN YOUR VEHICLE TO YOUR SELLING DEALER. IF YOU CANNOT RETURN YOUR VEHICLE TO YOUR SELLING DEALER, YOU MUST TELEPHONE FWS AT 1-866-440-1340 DURING NORMAL WORKING HOURS TO RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS. IF YOU DO NOT FOLLOW OUR INSTRUCTIONS, WE ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO REIMBURSE YOU FOR THE COST OF ANY REPAIRS

And one yelp reviewer was subject to this at a $2000 cost. They would not authorize a repair until the facility did a tear down.
"PROVIDE “TEARDOWN AUTHORIZATION” WHEN REQUESTED BY FWS, SO THAT THE REPAIR FACILITY CAN PROVIDE AN ACCURATE DIAGNOSIS AND ESTIMATE OF REPAIRS. WE ARE NOT OBLIGATED TO REIMBURSE YOU FOR TEARDOWN COSTS IN THE EVENT THE REPAIRS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE PROVISIONS OF THIS SERVICE CONTRACT;"

And they may use re-manufactured or used parts at their discretion:
"Replacement parts utilized in connection with a MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN will be, at the discretion of FWS, new or remanufactured OEM parts, new or remanufactured aftermarket parts or used parts that meet the quality standards of the repair facility or FWS."

I am intrigued by the Geico mechanical breakdown policy.

A couple of advantages:

1. You don't have to get it immediately, its up to the 15,000 mile point. Realize extended warranties all get the first few years covered by the manufacturers warranty. So you are initially paying for. something with no benefit. At least with Geico, you can drag it out a little.

2. No up front cost. Instead, you pay about $100 per year. So you can walk away at any point.

Disadvantages:

1. Its up to 7 years, 100,000 miles, then it ends.

2. $250 deductible, $50 on glass (which could be an advantage).

Personally, I would trust Geico more than some other providers.

I was told that if you don't use the extended warranty you get it or part of it reimbursed. Has anyone else heard this?

Who's policy did you hear that about?

I would guess what you're referring to is that if you drop the coverage before the end of the extended warranty period then you can get part of it reimbursed. This is true.
So if you have a 6 year/100k mile warranty but sell your car at 4 years / 60k miles you can call them and get a reimbursement.

Who's policy did you hear that about?
Was this:
"hard plastic gap cover"
an option? never heard of it and desperately interested.

Just bought an SX and got the service contract at the dealership and it was $3500 for 10 years/100K and then came across this forum and noticed the Muncie deal. Kicking myself now but wanted coverage for all the electronics as I plan on owning this car for at least 8-10 years.

Am I screwed? Can I even cancel this service contract and signup for the Muncie one? It’s wrapped up into my financing so don’t know how complicated this will be now but I would much rather save $2000.

Hi Terp,

Most likely you will be able to cancel with no fee or penalty -- which company is it through? Read the legalese on the contract and usually these state that you can cancel within sixty days.

This usually requires you to make a written request to either the dealer you purchased it from (ensure it is documented) -- a written request to the company will also work :), but the dealer is the one who will process the payment back to you.

Thanks! Company is Quality Guard Plus.
