If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Would ceramic or non-ceramic tint match factory tinted rear windows better? The shop I called will do whatever I want, they said that ceramic has a slight blue hue that doesn't always match the factory window tint.

Thanks!

I had ceramic tint added to all windows because I wanted UV/heat rejection all around. Are my windows slightly blue now? Perhaps, I cannot tell. At least they are consistently blue. :)

Care to share a picture?

Besides ceramic and metallic based, what other types of tint are there? I prefer the heat block qualities that a good ceramic tint will give. So, blue or not, what I am not seeing is red! 😉

Btw, for the record, I am not seeing any blue on mine, and they match the factory tint close enough that I can’t tell the difference.

I think I might go a little darker on the back now, haven't gotten it done yet, some things came up and wasn't able to bring my car in. After looking around a bit I think the rears could be a tad darker. If I do that I will get ceramic all the way around then.

Hill. Nice shine! Looks sharp! Real sharp!

I’m also considering ceramic for the remainder of the windows.

You went darker on the rear windows, right? Looks like it, but you are right about the lighting. If so, what percentage?

Btw, did you get the lift-gate glass done as well?

Photos of side windows and rear glass. All week it’s been cloudy and rainy so the tint is looking generally dark in this lighting.

Looks sweet. Do you know what percentage they used or what it is now total? Did you do the fronts? If so, did you go lighter? Is it harder to see at night?

KT - Thx! Car was washed this week. 😁

The same 30% tint was applied all around (windows and lift gate glass). It does make the rear half of the car appear much darker! I'm just really glad I got the ceramic to combat our brutal Texas sun.

Thx! I’m pleased with the privacy and comfort from the tint. I used 30% all around. Though I don't know the cumulative VLT, the installer kept it legal for Texas. I am finding outward visibility to be fine at night, though I haven't been down any truly dark roads yet. If my eyes start to complain in a few years, I may redo just the front windows -- it's not terribly expensive to do just those 2. HTH!

The pics and your comments help a lot. Trying to decide how dark to go. I have tinted the front two windows to the legal limit. I want to do the rest for the heat protection, since I have a black interior. But, not sure I want go dark enough where it could affect visibility. May just need to defer to my tint guy.

One other question:

Has anyone who has tinted the lift gate window, had any problems (or noticed any adverse affects) to the film when using the rear defroster? Or, alternatively, does the ceramic film hinder or even prevent fogging?

My installer said the ceramic handles the UV/heat rejection at any darkness you choose. The particular shade is customer preference for privacy and aesthetics. They said I could choose a low 70% (essentially clear tint) and achieve the same performance.

Tint on lift gate glass - I’ve had to use the rear defrost a few times now. The defrost works fine, and the tint has not changed. I never had occasion to use the rear defrost prior to tint though, so I can’t compare pre/post. My car is getting condensation as frequently as our other car so my tint isn’t doing any reduction there. HTH!

I have ceramic tints: 70% on the windshield, sunroofs, and rear windows, 55% on the front. Haven't found that the tints are causing any issues, and no one notices I have the 70% tints unless I say something. The heat blocking properties of the ceramic tints make it very worth it. I plan on adding ceramic tints to my wife's car once we get a new one.

One more photo. The sun today shows the visibility through the front windows.

Beautiful car...but I would get mine tinted to match, otherwise it'd drive me crazy. I almost can't look at any SUV driving with stock front windows being totally untinted. The rear looks almost limo-dark, even though you said it wasn't anywhere near that low (5% normally).

Thx! A consistent shade on all windows does have an appeal. I wonder whether anyone here has achieved that. I read all the posts I could prior to my own tint, but I don't recall anyone who did it. I hear you on the untinted front windows... it makes me a bit cringey as if I shouldn't be privy to quite so much (should I look away?)... but I imagine some drivers prefer the glass that way. Or they haven't considered alternatives.

I hear you on the front tint...mine looks pretty good in shadows/overcast, but when the sun shines through the windshield, it's not nearly the same....just like below.
