I'm going to have to check this setting. I too think the SCC brakes way too late for my taste. Based on what you said, I must have set it as "SLOW"

EDIT: So, my setting was on NORMAL. I can't image how SLOW would react if I don't like NORMAL! I set it to FAST, lets see if that makes a difference.

I am curious to see what your experience will be in a different setting.

After a recent trip where I was in 3 or 4 different couple mile bouts of stop and go highway traffic jams I actually ended up changing from default to the slow setting. It made the system drive much smoother IMO in that scenario.

I drove it earlier with the FAST setting and it does appear to break at little earlier, but I have to drive with it some more.

The problem for me isn't in stop and go traffic. Even with the NORMAL mode I think it works fine. The thing that scares me sometimes is when I approach a car that is stopped or slowing down. The SCC applies the brake way later than I would normally apply the brakes, resulting in a stop you can definitely feel.

Anyway, I think I'm going to keep it in the FAST setting for a while and see if it truly brakes earlier consistently.

Just picked up my SXP yesterday after a March 14 order date. Love the car! But found a vibration at highway speeds, almost a rumble. Anyone else have that’s? A little concerned. Almost has the feeling of a bad u joint.

The problem for me isn't in stop and go traffic. Even with the NORMAL mode I think it works fine. The thing that scares me sometimes is when I approach a car that is stopped or slowing down. The SCC applies the brake way later than I would normally apply the brakes, resulting in a stop you can definitely feel.

I had mine on FAST. That's my exact concern, the late auto-braking. I know this is a driver assist and that this is not autopilot. That's a big distinction. Still curious. Drove for about 3 hours today, mainly backroad highways and discovered something. If you're coming up to stopped cars, SCC doesn't sense cars ahead. Quickly CANCEL and SET SCC again...it picks them up and IMMEDIATELY starts braking! Tested this multiple times today. LOL

Before anyone says something, please don't worry...I'm leaving plenty of time to manually brake while testing this stuff. I've got my kids in the car, so I def don't wanna do anything dumb.

SIDE NOTE: Lane assist works much better at higher speeds. Also doesn't work nearly at all at 25mph residential curves (slalom style) Bites off on turns early on the inside (instead of going into them on the outside), then blows out wide on the outside of the turn. If you ride motorcycles you'll know what I mean and can picture why this is bad.

I hope there's a fix for that! My SX is still on order but the model I test drove had this exact issue. I tried fiddling with the settings but figured "why bother" since it's just the demo. I guess I'll have a month before mine gets delivered so hopefully in that time someone finds a solution!

Oh, IC.... "The intent of the smart liftgate implying the use to only be the driver returning from shopping with hands full and going to the liftgate before anywhere else" ...agreed that's what it seems to be designed for.

I think the logic was designed that way to prevent unintended opening of the hatch and prevent damage. Kinda like "idiot proofing" (Not calling you an idiot).

Imagine this scenario, You just parked in a garage to go to a restaurant with the family. You are super hungry, loosing your mind getting your kids unbuckled and out because one is shouting in your ear while the other is crying like crazy and your spouse just minding his/her own business. At this pint you are HANGRY!

While not paying attention to the surrounding you go to the back to get the stroller out, with the crying baby in one arm, a diaper bag in the other and your other child tugging at your shirt saying something you can't understand. Your good for nothing spouse is still nowhere to be found. Before you know it or even had a chance to check anything, the hatch opens automatically and crashes into the lower portion of the concrete beam in the garage. As a result, your hatch is dented, scratched up and the rear is window blown out. You scream #@$$%@!@! $%%### %$$#!!!!!!!!!................$2,500 in damage.

Pretty melodramatic....sorry couldn't resist. My theory is that the engineers at KIA thought of many scenarios like this and decided that if you can "manually" open the lift gate safely by pushing a button upon arrival, then it would be relatively safe to have the lift gate automatically open when you return to your Telluride.

Just had a chance to read your scenario. Very detailed and nearly exactly what I would be thinking in that situation! You make a good point.

For those following th SCC discussion, the SLOW/FAST setting (still reading the pages of owners manual stuff on the SCC). With how much detailed info Kia put into their manual, maybe it's be better to have a "get to know your Kia features" panel where the features are broken down without all the crazy detail from the manual! LOL

Makes sense. False positives are a good point. My curiousity comes in when a car changes to a turn lane in front of me, I will occasionally get a collision alert warning because I'm accelerating towards them, knowing they will be clear, but the same warning doesn't apply coming up to stopped traffic. I suspect there may be something to do with the first situation already sensing a vehicle ahead vs. coming up to stopped vehicles not previously sensed/following via SCC, but your false positive algorithm could apply, too.

Dealer during a test drive that collision avoidance only works if you are actively accelerating. If true, maybe thats the difference?

I read the the manual as well when I first bought the vehicle. I read "Vehicle speed to the vehi-
cle ahead to maintain the set
distance is..." literally, so I tried normal first. When the stopping distance was too close for comfort I changed the setting to slow which got really exciting, so I tried fast and voila it worked perfect for me. The wording should read "reaction time" not "vehicle speed" so "fast" makes the most sense if you want the vehicle to slow down or "react" sooner when approaching a vehicle no matter if it is moving or stationary.

The setting for Smart Cruise Control in the instrument panel does say "SCC Reaction" so I think the manual needs to be updated.

I drove both prior to purchasing the SX and the EX rides better in my opinion.

In my experience, 18" rims with standard tires ride smoother and quieter than 20's with the performance tires. Had SUVs and cars with both. Like how quiet my EX is on the highway.

That's correct. I test drove an LX and enjoyed the quiet ride. But bought an SX and it's rougher on the road.

Hold on, I need to climb up on my soapbox.
Once upon a time I drove thru a parking lot sans seatbelt, after dropping my in-laws at the restaurant door. 45 seconds later onlookers were calling for police and ambulance because some delightfully distracted twerp ran straight into me. Significant head denting (mine!). That was the very last time I ever drove anywhere without my seatbelt fastened...
Also, an insurance geek, I can tell you that 5 and 10 MPH crashes without a seatbelt can and do kill. Seen it way too often.
