In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Trying to decide between a 2020 SX or 2021 EX. They both have about 14k miles and are within $300 of each other. I’ve always told myself to stay away from 1st model years but not sure if the added features are worth it,

How are the 2020’s overall, we’re any features added to 2021 models?

Thansk!

Owned a 2020 SX-P for 35 months. 21k miles. Replaced self level rear shocks with std shocks, Other than that, no issues. B sure to test drive both. But, the SX is a no brainer. No regrets. If u like it, pull the trigger.

Enjoy the ride.

I can guarantee you that the 2020 is the same vehicle as the 2021. They added a remote start on the fob and upgraded the wiring harness for towing to 7 pin. Other than that, you still get the failing windshields, driveline vibrations, and odd HVAC performance original to the 2020 ;) . I would take the SX anyway.

Here are the published changes summarized:

I would call it a toss up if I didn't care for any of the added features in the SX and you are talking about the same seating 7 vs 8.

If both are AWD and I lived in a colder climate, I would go with the 2021 AWD simply for the cabin heater improvement. BUT only after test driving it at highway speed. ANY sign of vibration, if one is FWD, I would go with the FWD or go with the one without vibration. If you sense some vibration on both then ask the dealer to look into the TSB before you buy. I'd also check the remaining tread life on the used tires for both and try to see if the dealer accounts for that in the price. Then go get a fresh set of good new tires. Even if they both have about 14k miles, people drive differently and the tires may have aged differently or if they weren't properly rotated you will end up with uneven wear and a less that ideal drive feel.

Thanks! They are both AWD as I live in Massachusetts. Is the cabin heater improvement that much different? The only thing I really want in the SX model is memory seats for the few times a year my wife takes the car then I spend the next week trying to get the seat back to the way I like 🤣

Are they both 7-seater? If yes, then that likely means you are talking about 2021 EX Premium AWD vs 2020 SX AWD (Prestige or non-Prestige?). I think they added the EX-P specifically for a buyer in your situation. The EX non-Premium has 18" wheels and a bench seat, while the Premium is more like the SX with 20" wheels and captains chairs. Remember too that if you are buying used, you get a second owner warranty which is shorter, so the 2021 might be a better deal just in warranty coverage alone if you get an extra year. If I still lived in New England and drove in snow regularly I would prefer 18" wheels.

If you care about remote start go with the 2021 with it on the FOB. Since you live in MA, by law you may not be able to use the Kia app on the 2020 even if you pay the fees to do remote start.

Also in New Englend. ZERO issues with cabin heat, vibration, windshield (which recently took a hit from a falling branch on a back road without a hint of damage) in my 2020 SXP.

Yes they are both 7 seaters, not sure about packages other than 2nd row captain chairs and 20” rims

They are pretty comparable since that is the EX-P but there is one difference. The 2020 SX has the tow option while the 2021 EX-P has the tow package. For this reason, if I were you I would go with the 2020 SX. You live in Massachusetts so legally can tow up to 5,000lbs without trailer brakes and use a 4-pin. But for safety if you tow seriously then you definitely want to add brakes to your trailer. This can be done with minimal splicing and auto resetting breakers which have an advantage over the fused based plug-n-play 7-pin harness from Kia introduced in the 2021MY. If you go with the 2021 EX-P with the tow package you will inherit the self-leveling suspension shocks which will be more money to replace when they go bad and contribute to more sag when parked. It might be a feature you like when you add passengers and weight, but just be aware that the overall replacement costs and risk of failure are more costly than the standard shocks for which there will be aftermarket options soon enough. I have a 2020 S and added the tow option myself, but I also added airlift helper bags (plenty of info on this forum) to adjust and remediate sag when hauling or towing and I find it works great for about $100 and I can affordably upgrade the shocks in the future when I want to. If you don't mind the sag when parked and it works when you hang stuff off the hitch or carry lots of cargo and passengers and the long term replacement cost to buy the expensive Kia version when it comes times to replace, then you might like the comfort the self-leveling suspension parts add while driving.

My advice is to take some passengers with you and have them sit in the back while you drive both and see how it reacts. If you hear noise or clunking in the EX-P you might need to check into another TSB.

It’s very helpful to know the actual cars in question. The SX you’re looking at is a Canadian import. STAY AWAY. If you buy it, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment.

Also, since this appears to be a Canadian SX Limited, it has the self leveling suspension. So both of the vehicles here will have identical rear suspension setups.

How can you tell that's an Canadian SX-L as opposed to a US SX? Something different in the drive mode knob, like Sand and Mud? If that's the case, yeah it's a toss up, both have the same rear suspension parts. But does the AWD lock for under 25mph still work the same as the US model? Knowing this now, I would go with the newer US Spec EX-P. No offense Canada, I wouldn't want any problems with taxes, registration and inspections.

The dead giveaway is the drive mode selector. Of course, there’s the wheels as well. And the fact that the if you plug the VIN into the Kia US window sticker lookup, you just get an error

Plus if can’t be a regular Canadian SX, since those would have non-LED taillights and would have a bench rear seat. So that’s why I believe it must be an SX-L.

You will also risk any chance of Kia USA warranty coverage if any at all. Stay away.

Interesting! I tried to plug in the VIN to look at the window sticker and just assumed it was not there because it was a 2020. Thanks for the education!

2021 EX-P (US) all day long. Just make sure to check for clunking and rear suspension feel as well as highway speed vibration.

Agree. The CARFAX lists the original delivery point as Quebec. Also: The black SX wheels did not ship on 2020 Canadian SX's, and the pic of the rear bench in this sx is a dead giveaway. US Spec SX's are not available with bench seats. Buyer beware.

Both of them are not 7 seaters. The Canadian SX you're looking at has a rear bench seat. Hence, an 8 seater.

I’m not sure what pictures you’re looking at, but the SX in those pictures clearly has seven seats. It’s definitely Canadian as I mentioned, but it’s not an 8-seat version.

I see second row captains chairs in that Canadian SX-L. I think the non-Limited Canadian SX has a middle row bench.

Correct, the Canadian SX-L does have captains chairs. However, the picture you're referring to from the OP's linked post is of a US-spec 2021 EX-Premium - which offered captain's chairs as part of the Premium package. The Carfax indicates it was originally purchased in New Hampshire. The 2nd link is most definately a Canadian spec 2020 SX model with bench seats. The Carfax indicates it was originally purchased in Salaberry-De-Valleyfield Quebec. Although cleared as "sellable" in the US by the Feds, Kia US may not honor the original factory warranty.
