• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hi All!

Has anyone experienced any issues with their CarPlay not connecting when they plug in their iPhone? I’ve purchased new cords and even had other people connect their phones and CarPlay still doesn’t pop up. I’ve went through the steps of looking through my iPhone settings, forgetting the device and add it back on, etc. Wondering if my system might need a software update? Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!
Veronica M.

Is CarPlay actually enabled on your car? Have you or anyone used it successfully?

Setup > device connections > phone projection/CarPlay. Make sure the box to enable CarPlay is checked.

Yup, it’s been working since October (when I bought the car). It just started last week and I checked all of the CarPlay settings on my iPhone and car.

The obvious question that you haven't touched on is that it is plugged in to the correct port, right?

restart your phone. Uninstall reinstall carplay. cable might be faulty, use a new one. Test it with someone else's iphone to make sure carplay is working on the vehicle itself.

Yup…did all that…three times. I believe it’s the software….my iphone connects right away to CarPlay in my wife’s car. Tried my wife’s phone and our daughter’s phone on mine and nothing.

When you navigate to the Carplay icon in the home screens, it stays grayed out while the phone is plugged in? Have you tried an android phone to see if Android auto works? Would need a compatible data cable as well.

Have you factory reset of the UVO settings menu?

You may have bought a charge only cable? I'm not aware if that exists on an iPhone but i remember seeing older usb with data cable and charge only cable.

Nope, same cord since I bought the car…

did you try taking the same cable from your wife's car over to the Telluride? if that cable works on your wife's car but not your car then I'm wondering if there is an issue with the USB port. Make sure it's clean and that the contact that is used for data isn't dirty. Worse case scenario is that you you'll need to warranty out that usb port or the infotainment console. Also check to see if any other iphones or android phones can activate carplay or AA.

I did. The cord(s) are fine and all work….I even bought a new one to see if that would help (tested it in my wife’s car even), but it didn’t. The cords charge my phone when I plug it in, but CarPlay doesn’t connect. I think you’re correct on having to warranty out the USB port or the infotainment. It’s the weirdest thing!

Just to confirm. You plugged the cord into the center usb plugin not the right side one.

Did you recently update the software for the nav system? If so perhaps you can try reinstalling it or if you haven't you can try running the latest update. Just a thought

I’m going to try the UVO factory reset to see if that works. Yup, the CarPlay icon is grayed out while plugged in, but it’s still charging my phone (and yes, it’s plugged into the correct port.).

No recent update was done, but I’m thinking I might have to. Someone else suggested doing a factory reset on the UVO software…hoping that’ll work!

"Allow CarPlay while locked". Please check that this is on. Go to setting (iPhone), General, CarPlay and Kia Motors. Thanks.

Also see if your USB Accessories is on--In Settings, go to Face ID & Passcode or Touch ID & Passcode, and turn on USB Accessories under Allow Access When Locked. When the USB Accessories setting is off, you might need to unlock your iOS or iPadOS device to connect USB accessories. Thanks!
