Bad Shock on a 2020 SX with factory towing package

Hello, Just thought Id send a note here. I was having noise and vibration problems from the rear shocks...Again! Driver rear was replaced last summer on year later both rears need to be replaced. I had no issue with warranty. Just frustrating knowing the shocks are POS. What will happen when I actually start to tow something? Anyone else on their 2nd set of shocks for a 2020 Telluride?
See this. Bad Shock on a 2020 SX with factory towing package

Enjoy the ride.

This is why I love forums. You get to see that "you're not crazy"...LOL. As for my experience, first I had to see if there was something I was doing wrong. I can tell you, I ended that thought quickly. Then I started asking my passengers, "do you hear that"? Of course every time I turned the radio down and shooshed everyone and said listen, the noise(thump) was non existent. I have a '20 SXP and just hit 14K~ miles but I have been hearing the thump/knock for close to 6 months now. I've kept all my current maintenance appointments but I've been slow to mention it to the dealer since I expect a back and forth situation that I didn't have the time and energy for. Especially with Covid and making appointments. That has all changed now. I see that this "issue" is REAL and I want my ride fixed. :)

I do have some questions for all. Based on all the posts, does it seem to happen to the driver side shock first? Is this mainly happening to 2020 models? Has anyone done any mods to their rides as far as wheels, exhaust, or pedal response? I'm not trying to place any blame, I'm just trying to gather all of my possible responses in case the Kia dealership I go to tries to give me the song and dance.
I have a 2020, Drivers side went first, it was replaced July 2021. Currently both rear needs to be be replaced. Waiting for parts will take about 4-5 days for parts to arrive.

I have a 2020 EX with towing package. The dealer just replaced the isolators but the truck is still driving hard. Its not noisy or ratteling any more. I think the suspension might be stuck in the self leveling mode. Anyone else have this issue?

Took it back to the dealer, said shocks had failed. They ordered new shocks, no eta.

Ours is going in tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed that they will have the parts in stock and be able to fix it, but I have my doubts.

Mine goes in next Friday. Hopefully they fix the problem and the noise.

So my dealer confirmed that both rear shocks on our Telluride need to be replaced (under warranty of course, we are at 31 months and 16,900 miles). I'm waiting to hear back on how soon they can get the parts. Yesterday they thought they would be able to get them locally, installed, and the Telluride returned to me the same day. Still waiting to hear back.

Update...dealer just called and our Telluride is ready. Both rear struts were replaced.

I finally brought my '22 SX P to service last Saturday, there has been a humming vibration noise from rear right since the first week I picked it up new in January. Low tire pressure on both rear tires on and off since purchased new also. This is my first Kia vehicle but knew it was not a normal sound and sure enough the techs heard it also and said it is not supposed to be doing that. They have been trying to trouble shoot it but have not been successful. Only 3300 miles on it, but I'm thinking it could be a bad strut or shock from factory. I hope to find a solution soon.

Had the rear shocks replace today by dealer. Noticeable improvement in the ride. Under warranty, no charge, We have 42K miles on 2020.

Hope these last longer than 40K!

Ours were replaced earlier this week...16,900 miles on our 2020. Dealer said struts were covered under the 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty. Does anyone know if this is true? Are they also covered under the 10 year, 100,000 mile platinum warranty?

Probably fully covered under 5/50k, but prorated under 10/10k.

So were your leaking? Wondering how they knew the struts were defective / failing. I didn't have any luck when I brought mine in last week...

The service advisor said they were stuck in the fully compressed state and wouldn't rebound. He didn't say if they were leaking, or had leaked, and couldn't give any information on why they failed.

Mine are simply making a very quiet click/thunk. I'll give it another month and bring it in again. At least it's now documented in my Kia database as a problem...

So our 2021 Telluride SX with towing package has a rattle in the rear suspension, its manufacture date is 12/3/2020. Had Central Kia of Plano apply TSB-113 fix, but the rattle is still in the rear end.

So I am wondering, Bad shocks? Bad service department? Anyone have TSB-113 (https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10206640-0001.pdf) applied and still have the rattle and then got it fixed, please elaborate.

They tried to repair mine as well, still no go. Apparently the parts are still faulty and no ETA on new replacements. I have emailed Kia customer service multiple times, no response.

Went back to the dealer again today. Service manager and tech took it over to a large parking lot and kept it under 10MPH. FINALLY, they heard it! After another hour + on the lift, the tech agreed that the driver's side rear strut insulator was the cause. They ordered 2 and will replace both when the parts come in. Fingers crossed.

I have a 2020 SX Prestige Telluride build date of December 12, 2019 with towing package and self leveling rear shocks. I have 22,750 miles and about 30 months of driving on my Telluride. I had the thumping noise on driver's rear side. Took to dealership and they were going to do the TSB fix for the rear shock insulators for both sides. Had to wait a couple of days for those parts to come in. When I dropped the Telluride off for that repair, I asked the service manager to have a look at the rear self leveling shocks to ensure they were still good as the ride as been really rough the last 2,000 miles or so. Service manager called me back and said both rear shocks were locked up and he would replace them and the insulators on the TSB bulletin and would have it ready by 5 pm. I was surprised the dealer had the self leveling shocks in stock but did as the part on the invoice matched the Kia part number. Picked up Friday at 5 and it has driven and felt like a brand new vehicle. Dealer covered the TSB insulator fix and replaced the rear shocks all under Kia warranty with no hassle which I was glad for.

I had a similar experience. Mine is 2022 with tow package with only about 11k miles on it. I first heard the knocking sound about 2 weeks ago. It was very faint but I could definitely tell it was coming from the right rear. I tested it by opening the lift gate and pushing the rear up and down on the left and right. Bouncing the right side immediately caused the knock. Left side was fine. They took a look at it when I took it in for the oil change and saw that it needed to be replaced. They couldn't drive it to hear it since it was raining so bad, they wouldn't be able to drive and hear it, but I told them how to reproduce the sound. They replaced it with this part. The knock is gone. Quick and easy but a little worrisome since it's only been 11k miles.

I have a 2021 SX P Tow package. I heard no noise but the car started riding rough. Over the month it started to bounce a lot. Took it in and they determined that the struts went out. After installing the struts they determined the shocks were bad. My car is still in the shop after 3 weeks and waiting another 2 to 3 weeks because the shocks are on back order. They initially blamed me for carrying heavy loads. I've carried nothing heavier than trips to costco. At 14k miles it looks like it will all be covered by warranty. Hopefully this will get the car back in order.
