I knew I was onto something when I had them do my tow hitch and 7 pin harness Without the self leveling shocks. Omitted from my order bc thought they’d be unreliable. Then my transmission failed at 18k so only so much you can do lolNoticed a rougher bouncier ride lately. Took it in for the 45k service and they tested them out and said that the rear shocks were frozen. The dealer said they've been seeing this issue a lot and is submitting a warranty claim.
2020 SX premium/towing
2020 Telluride here as well with 18K miles, and the ride went to absolute DIRT after a 2-hour drive on a highway for some reason. SUPER hard in the back and VERY bouncy. It has to be the same issue I imagine. It rode so smoothly before... Did they replace yours under warranty? 2020 SX Prestige / Tow Package.Hey NDBEX: I just got both my shocks replaced by the dealer for the first time today (25K miles) The service manager promised they had worked out the problem with the self-leveling shocks and said his would be a long-term solution. I never wanted the Tow Package anyway, I just asked for the factory tow hitch when I ordered the car. But when my order came in it had the Tow Package on there. I’ve been going nuts the last few months trying to figure out why the car seemed so stiff! I mean I always thought the ride was stiff, so I would lower the air pressure in the tires to get some relief, but this was ridiculous! The shocks never made any noise, but sure enough, when I brought it in, they were defective. The ride was very nice on the way back from the dealer. Makes me wonder if the shocks were defective from day one.
Anyway, thanks all for this thread! Obviously I’ve been out of the loop…ha ha
I've had mime replaced twice under warranty. Around 25k and 47k.2020 Telluride here as well with 18K miles, and the ride went to absolute DIRT after a 2-hour drive on a highway for some reason. Yes, they told me it was covered under the 5 year/60K warranty. Headed in next Tuesday. We'll see.... this dealer in Cerritos, CA has been known to SCREW people over, so we'll see.Yes, they told me it was covered under the 5 year/60K warranty. I’ve got 24K miles
I have a similar issue. The dealer just replace the insulator cover which goes on the top of the shock and it did not help. I have removed the rear interior trim panel because it sounded like the noise was coming from behind it. There is nothing loose there. The noise is like a popping sound and sure sounds like it right over the shock. I could not think of any part of the shock that would make that noise but it sounds very similar to your issue. So after about 6,000 miles on the odometer, I started noticing knocking sound from the rear left wheel area at very low speeds. After eliminating every obvious potential reason by myself, I have decided to turn to the dealer with this as part of the 7,500mi service. They also couldn't find any obvious reason so after 2 days of investigation they decided to replace the shock to a new one and that solved the issue. The vehicle was never abused or went off-roading or anything like that, so it was simply a case of bad part from the factory.
Just sharing in case some else bumps into something similar...
I was told both shocks were "leaking." Both were replaced under warranty. Also wanted to add they I've never towed with it or have gone or done any offroading. You'd have to go through the forum. Maybe a few but I want to say it's mostly people with the self leveling rear suspension ad part of the tow package. Not sure if it's isolated to the 2020 models or not.So the issues seem to be with cars that came with the towing package from the factory? Or have some people also had problems with non towing?
@Socal949 its not just Tellurides. These have been used in station wagons, minivans and some SUVs over the years. The self-leveling shocks are more expensive and more complex than standard shocks. Because of the fluid and the mechanical way they operate they tend to not last at long as standard shocks which may be why 2020s are having more issues now. You'd have to go through the forum. Self-leveling. In order to switch out the self-leveling shocks you have to change the springs and some other additional parts, which the warranty wouldn’t pay for.Did they replace them with self leveling shocks or standard shocks.
