• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... My wife and I recently bought a 2022 Telliride. We expect to use it to pull a small trailer on occasion. I’m told the factory equipped vehicles with trailer hitch are recalled, however, we are purchasing an aftermarket hitch and wiring harness. There is a local accessory installer that tells me they refuse to install the aftermarket hitch because of the recall. My question is: Does the recall apply to any wiring harness, or just the genuine Kia factory or dealer installed harness? Am I risking a fire in my new vehicle by installing an aftermarket hitch? Thank you for any help you can provide.

I got my car serviced the other day and they told me about the recall. Im actually getting something about it in the mail today so Ill have to wait to see what it says. I was told they just had to "inspect" the harness to see if it was ok and not going to cause a fire. They said it was fine by the way it looked and Im good to go. Swing by your dealership have them check it out and then go back to your installer and show him that it was addressed. Should be good to go.

I haven’t gotten the aftermarket hitch installed yet, but if the recall is just an inspection that’s encouraging. It means not ALL factory installed units are affected. I am going to a different installer next week. For anyone looking to get a hitch at a good price check out etrailer.com. “Jay” was very helpful. Excellent service!

It is just the OEM 4-pin tow harness that is recalled. That was installed on 2020 cars with the tow package and available as an accessory for dealers or customers to install later.

You can easily see if your car is affected or not. Yours obviously isn’t if it doesn’t even have a hitch/harness at all.

Aftermarket tow harnesses are not affected, only the Kia 4-pin harness is.

Here is the recall campaign information.
