Telluride sx lift and larger tires

It’s the size of tires, larger circumference, not the type, causing it to hold gears longer.
Which is what I figured (along with the weight of the tire…40lbs. vs. 30 lbs), it just didn’t end up being a concession I wanted to make.

I drive about 30-35K miles a year, majority of it highway. We do hit a decent amount of forest service roads in the summer but my main concern was highway comfort. Had snow & ice the other night and the Goodyears performed well.

Just went with 265/50r/20 Nitto Terra Grapplers on my ‘21 SX with no lift and they fit great 👍🏼
How was the road trip drive? Any rubbing or holding gears? I want to put these same tires on mine

Only single time I’ve had any rub was at full lock reversing in a dirt parking lot, but it was very minor. Drove from Denver to Durango and back and had some dicey weather and they were awesome! Just drove home from Denver airport with the 7 inches of snow we just got and it was stable the whole way. Drives amazing in dirt and snow, plus I feel it totally changes the look of the car!

Thank you for the update! Going with Nitto Recon grapplers 265/50/20 this week.

Hello all: I have a 2020 SX-P with the tow package and self-adjusting shocks. I plan to install 2" risers (Jsport type, my tire guy said he thinks the Truxx type are crap, has to repair them all the time) and I'm debating Falken Wildpeak 265/50r20 vs. 265/60r20. With the 2' lift, I'm thinking the 60 radius will be OK, but has anyone done this?

Thanks for any advice.

I pretty sure you're going to have rubbing issues with a tire of that size. I have 265/65r17 and I have a slight rub on full lock when backing up. You're looking at a close to a 3-inch increase in diameter which will rub your wheel well when turning and mess up your speedometer reading. Your tire guy should be able to point that out to you. Wildpeaks are fine as long as you plan on going into some rough conditions, otherwise consider the Wildpeak Trail tires. Good traction for fireroads but quieter on the freeways.
Also, what kind of issues are your tire guy seeing with the Truxx kit? Is it from people trying to do a high speed desert run thinking a spacer lift is the same as a full suspension kit, or are they failing on simple fire roads?

Thank you for the reply. Yes, the increase is just about 3" and in my simple mind, I'm thinking my 2" lift will compensate for that. I'll discuss with the tire folks tomorrow. Thank you for your advice - I'm thinking my 20" rim is what's killing me on this, correct? I don't want to have to replace those too. Is the Wildpeak AT Trail different than a regular Wildpeak AT? I'm not boulder hopping for sure, mostly fire roads, BLM roads. Yep, don't want the louder noise on the freeway which is where I do most of my driving.

The truxx comment was kindof an off the cuff comment from the tech as I was talking over the counter. He said he had a lot of guys come in needing parts replaced, or parts failing on the truxx lifts. They did not have a lift that would fit a Telluride so he found this Jsport version and said they'd install it for me but I purchase it myself. Who knows if it's true.

The lift will compensate for the vertical increase but not the sides when you turn the wheel.

The sidewall number is a percentage of the tire width, so if you go with a wider 255 but get the same 50 series, your sidewall will be a little taller. Use this site to see the difference is sizes. Tire Size Calculator
On 20s, just take it slow off road and you'll be fine.

I ran the Wildpeak Trail for a bit with the stock 20s and they worked well enough on BLM and fire roads. I just wanted meatier tires because I'm a child like that. It also allows me to air down for better traction and comfort off road. But they are noticably quieter than the regular Wildpeak. The Trail was designed for crossovers and family SUVs like the Telluride.

Also don't forget that you'll be taking an MPG hit depending on your lift height and tires.

Thanks for that tire calculator, excellent way to really see what's going on! Yeah, you hit it on the head - I want a larger, or more noticeable beefy tire and now my concern is, if I raise it 2", the wheel well might be noticeably vacant with the slightly higher 265/50. I'll talk to the tire guy, see where this goes.

Putting the 265/50/20 on today with no lift- they said it should fit just fine.
Can you provide photos of your 265/50r20 with no lift? Thanks!

Hi BVDapper: I'm looking to add 2" lift and use Falken Wildpeak AT 265/50r20's on my 2020 SX AWD with stock 20' wheels; have you had any issues with your set up? I understand that the Wildpeak AT Trail version is quiet ride, more so that standard Wildpeak.

Anyway, any insight would be great, thanks.

Here’s my before and after 👌 No lift, just the new tires.

I also have supplied pictures of my 2021 EX with no lift on 265/50 R20 Michelin's CrossClimate2. These are by far the best all around tire I have found.

I am going to assume the guy you spoke with sells Jsport and not Truxx because there is literally nothing to "repair" they are spacers that go above the shock tower.

I have these installed and love them, they ride and look is what I was going for and so far love it.

I do notice on tight turns a wheel trying to hop but only on extreme turns.

I also had to get the ones that have the shock extension piece because I have the load leveling shocks in the rear

I'll post pictures when I get a chance. The picture in my intro thread was before the lift.

Thank you GreenBug. Did you get the shock extension piece from Truxx also? I have the tow package with the load level shocks too. Is there a consultant or sales person at Truxx that can help specify?

Thanks for those pictures, yes, I've heard the same that the Trail version of the Wildpeak is quieter than the AT3's.
