• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 2023, SX X-Pro. Can you disable the "smart" cruise control?
Also, any way to get rid of the sliding scale readout of the fuel economy in the bottom of the gage cluster?
Thanks!

Why in the world would you want to do that? But, unless I am wrong, simply don't activate it when you are driving.

As far as I know, there is no way to turn the "smart" cruise control off and use the "standard" cruise control on a 2023 Telluride.

I'm afraid this is the case. This forum was my last hope. Give me the old-style. I can change lanes on my own. Even at the shortest distance setting I think it decreases the speed too early.

I'm going to have to agree that there should be a way to use conventional cruise control and "smart" version. It's weak point is traffic, you will be hanging back enough that the driver ahead will be fine with hanging in the left lane because your not close enough for him to get the message. And if you do allow it to run the cruise, you will constantly get cars running up the right lane and then cutting into your lane because you're giving them plenty of space. Give me an option of my old school cruise that will run up the back end of a lane hog any day. o_O

I would not use cruise control in traffic.

PREACH! Exactly what's happening! I simply can't believe conventional cruise is not an option. I will likely dump this ride in less than a year for this reason. I will do my research a little more thoroughly next time.

Post in thread 'Smart cruise control'
Smart cruise control

Does that not work in a 2023?

Was standard cruise control just renamed to "Manual Speed Limit Assist" in the 2023? I saw something by this name on page 6-43 of the 2023 owner's manual.

I think you will find this is true with every new car now

I am just going to throw this out there -- do any of you have actual experience with long-term use of SCC? I ask this because I've had it on my '22 Sorento SX-P X-Line for 13 months now, and I honestly "wouldn't leave home without it". There are three settings on following distance and I find the closest two scare me, so I leave it on the farthest setting and it is perfect, but I always have that option to move closer - almost to the point of tailgating. Does a car occasionally come in front and cut in? Sure - so what else is new. I use it on interstates, 2-lane roads, and even some city driving.

Driving today finds way too many people out there that don't know what the sh*t they are doing. A crowded interstate which finds imbeciles thinking they are all Jeff Gordon at Talladega, tailgating like there is no tomorrow, and one wrong move and it's Katie bar the door. If you happen to be following and take your eyes off the road for a split second, it could be your last split second. SCC gives kind of a safety net and man does it EVER work!

I drive an audi q5 and find the driving distance more to my liking over the Telluride. If you have the distance control set to maximum with the Kia, good for you but it's unacceptable to me. Fully dependent on the area you live and driving style. I'm frequently in the DC Metro area and it's worthless in this situation. Generally turn it off.

Well I am frequently up in the DC Metro area -- and every point south on I-95 corridor -- and- that's the nonsense I've been talking about. (y)

Im not sure if this will work in the 2023..but i have a 2022 and how i was shown to use regular cruise is the distance button. As soon as u turn on cruise its automatically in hda, but u use the distance button and hold it for 3/5 seconds and it switches to regular cruise.

I think it's been renamed to Manual Speed Limit Assist instead of just standard cruise control.

See this video for a Hyundai with feature of the same name:

I have a 2022 and disable the same way - hit cruise then hold the distance button down for a few seconds.

I hate smart cruise control. Not only because the closest distance is too far away from the leading vehicle, but because it's just another tool to incentivize not paying attention. Which is exactly what I do if I use it. If I'm in the right lane going 80 and the car in front is going 75, the Kia gently decelerates so as not to get too close. Finally, at some point, I realize I'm freaking going slower than I want and I can take action by passing. If I'm using normal cruise, it's seamless, I'm paying attention, I can change lanes AT SPEED without affecting other traffic because I'm aware I'm approaching another car and can monitor the left lane, and everything just flows better. I'd rather be on a highway full of mindful, attentive Jeff Gordon's than people zoned out behind technology that doesn't behave like, nor react as fast as, a human.

A shot across the bow --

I think you may be right. I need to experiment with it to see what all needs to be done.
Keep SCC off and then hit the distance button and hold for a few seconds.
If this works - it would seem that all of those disliking SCC should like this!

Next page (6-44) in the 2024 owner's manual. Sounds more involved than it probably is.
