2022 Model navigation system in a 2023 Telluride - Should I be concerned about this?

I was looking to update my navigation software in my 2023 Telluride that I got in May and when I put in the model number in the updater, it came up as a 2022 Telluride. When I looked into it more my model number ONBS.S5BNC.US is one that is associated with the 2022 Telluride and the 2023 Telluride should have the model number ONCS.S5BMC.US. Is there any difference between the models? If so, what is the difference? And finally while I would think that I should have the most current unit in the most current Telluride, should I be concerned that I have a 2022 unit in my 2023 Telluride?

2023 Kia Tellurides are supposed to have Over the Air updates (OTA). I don't think you will use the navigation software for this. There might be a way to manually download the files to a USB without the software and without the updater software. Maybe there is something in the manual or if there is separate infotainment reference guide.

I have to believe there is a way to do the manual updates. If you look at the Kia Connect terms of service, for example, vehicles sold in Massachusetts are not allowed to have Kia Connect. Kia Connect "Attention: Kia Connect is currently unavailable for Model Year 2022 and newer vehicles sold or purchased in Massachusetts. See Kia Connect Terms of Service for more information."

2023s do have OTA updates if you sit around and wait for them. The first update that even applies to the 2023 was the May 2023 update, so it’s unlikely anyone with one has even gotten an OTA update yet since they’re delayed. You can download and install it yourself using the updater program just like everyone has used for years. It’s usually easier to just browse by model, there are only three choices for the Telluride (2020-21, 22, and 23). The search by model code is not very functional.

If they have a 2023, they need to download and install the 2023 software. If for some reason the car is messed up, it would reject it anyway.

If it’s actually a 2023, it has to have the correct software on it, otherwise you wouldn’t have access to many settings. 2022s and before have all their primary settings in the instrument cluster, but they’re in the infotainment for 2023.

An easy check is what are the current version numbers and everything in the software menu, and does OP have access to their settings for car functions like rear occupant alert, service interval, liftgate opening speed, HDA, safety features, etc?

Even though I have a 2020 Telluride, I'm dealing the same confusion with a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq 6 that has a similar design to the 2023 Telluride. The software from Hyundai lists a 2022 and the OTA has a software update to run but it's giving me an unexpected message that it can't download the update. I was be able to use a 32GB USB flashdrive for my 2020 Telluride but now this 2023 infotainment requires at least 67GB be available so I'll have to pick up a 128GB USB from somewhere to continue if I can't get the OTA to work.

My 2023 had the 2022 software on it. I just purchased it a couple weeks ago. I manually updated using the USB. I swear they left it so it matched the manual... BTW, the surround sound toggle moves to each source and out of the sound menu. For CarPlay and android auto you toggle it on in bluetooth.

Mine has ONBS.55BMC.US too. Delivered new to the dealer three weeks ago.

And if it is just software and not actually hardware, why wouldn't the 2023 Tellurides have been built with the newer 2023 Models numbers already installed? If it is a hardware issue, will having the older model limit updates or capabilities that the 2023 model would have, or be able to be updated to in the future? In other words did I get old equipment in a new Telluride that might affect something in the future that a new 2023 model would not be affected by?

I doubt if anyone is going to be able to answer your specific questions. One would almost have to be a KIA sw engineer to do so.

If it were me I would load the 2023 update and see what happens. If there is a problem then I would be making the dealer resolve it under warranty and ask them to replace it with 2023 if the update didn’t do it.

I used my computer and the Kia/Hyundai application to put the update on a usb drive and did the update that way.

So just an update on this process on my Telluride. I tried to update using a flash drive and getting the updates off the Kia website. The files all loaded on the flash drive but did not load in the Telluride. However we just got an over-the-air up date and that did install correctly. And it did update the model # to the 2023 version (model ONCS.S5BMC.US). I was not sure if that was a hardware or software component so it looks like it was software.
