If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Nightfall window trim fading,2021 Telluride

🤖 AI Summary

From reading the thread and some others on here, it seems as though it isn’t covered under warranty since Kia is saying it is not a defect but due to external factors. Now, that means you could replace it at your own cost, but the parts are on back order from what I’ve read as well, and the same thing will likely occur again even on the new parts.
'21 Telluride here that has the same issue. Had the dealership replace once already last year and the same thing has happened again already. It took the dealership around 3-4 months to get the parts, as they said the back panels were on back order. So needless to say, it won't matter if they replace them because it will happen all over again. At this point I will probably just get them painted and be done with the mess.

I have a 2021 SX with 11,000 miles and my trim is a mess. I live in New York and I’m considering small claims court if Kia does not replace the trim.
Same problem here. Dealership said it was acid rain lol. They proceeded to buff the driver’s side trim and buffed it all the way to shiny chrome. Looks terrible. I am going to pay to have the trim vinyl wrapped because it’s looks so bad. Jeff J

Took my 2022 Telly in because the radio was doing strange things. Fortunately I had video of uthe problems and Kia agreed to replace the Head Unit. I also showed them the trim discoloration. They said it’s a known issue and ordered replacements. Hopefully it doesn’t happen again. I performed the latest map update and now the radio seems to work perfectly.

I have a 2021 Telluride nightfall SX. I am having the problem with the trim fading terribly.
Took it to the dealer here in Lancaster Ohio and was told every piece of window trim needed to be replaced and it would be covered under warranty. The parts were ordered over 4 months ago and there is still no eta.
The service manager said he hadn't seen this problem on a Telluride but he had seen it on a stinger. He further stated that the 2022 Telluride no longer used the same nightfall trim which leads me to believe they know its a problem.
The service manager at Coughlin Kia Lancaster Ohio told me Kia doesn't care about your service once they (KIA) get your money so there is no hurry to help.
I have spoken with the dealership to no avail a couple times and now have a case number through Kia customer care which was just escalated to the next level.
Very disappointed with Kia so far, will see if they rectify that.
These parts are small enough they could just mail them so there is no excuse for taking this long.NO EXCUSE!!
Given that you have already opened a case with Kia customer care and it has been escalated to the next level, it's a positive step toward resolving the issue. The case process allows Kia to investigate the matter and work towards a solution. Make sure to provide them with all the relevant details and documentation, including your conversations with the dealership, the service manager's statements, and the extensive waiting period for the replacement parts.

In the meantime, you could also consider reaching out to Kia customer care again to inquire about the progress of your case and express your dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay. Be polite but firm in your communication, emphasizing the impact this situation has had on your ownership experience.

If you don't see any progress or resolution from Kia customer care, you may want to explore other options, such as contacting Kia's corporate office or seeking advice from a consumer protection agency or a legal professional specializing in automotive matters. These resources can provide guidance on how to proceed if your concerns are not being adequately addressed.

I have a similar situation and the Coral Springs Florida dealership said to use chemical guys. They applied it and it takes off the finish and made it chrome. It’s a defect and they used to cover it but not any longer. I will never buy another Kia again, they don’t back their products and service is the worst!!!

Call Customer Care. I’m taking my 2022 in on Monday to have it replaced along with the Radio. Parts are in and covered under warranty. After doing the previous map update CarPlay and then other strange stuff with the radio started. I recorded the failures of the radio and Kia agreed to replace it. Then I installed the latest update and the radio seems fine.

Just got my 2022 Telluride back after having the Nightfall window trim and Radio Head Unit replaced under warranty. It looks so much better. If your dealership says it’s not covered Call Customer Care. IMG_1572.webp

I went in the other day and had them do a warranty claim and today they called me saying the warranty only covers for the first year and this is my 3rd year with the truck. I can’t find anywhere in the warranty where it says this. Anyone else being told this, is it just my dealership not wanting to do it?

On my behalf, my husband has been getting the run-around for months regarding the discolored trim on my 2021 Telluride. Not sure what to do, I remembered that I joined this forum long ago. Thank you for the comments and suggestions.

My latest “offer” from the dealership is they would split with me the $4,000 that it will cost to replace the trim. Say what??? I spent $62,000 (including the forced $5,00 premium just to order) on this Telluride, the last car that I will probably ever buy. I even included a 10-year Bumper to Bumper coverage package for my own peace of mind. My previous two cars were each carefully maintained and driven for 20 years.

My mind is not at peace with this ugly cosmetic mistake, made by Kia and not by me! I will call Customer Care this week. My concern, however, is that this is only a short-term fix. If that’s true, I’m not sure how to proceed. So much for Car of the Year!

I’d like to start getting a list of people and file a class action on this against Kia. Who here is having problems, please reply. Thanks
Are you proceeding with this? I would like to know more.

I took delivery of my 2022 Telluride SX Nightfall on 10/15/2021 and as stated previously the window trim was replaced a few weeks ago under warranty. It may be that it is only covered during the first year but mine was beyond the the first year. The parts were ordered and delivered in less than two weeks. Something is wrong as it seems Dealerships are being very inconsistent.

My concern, however, is that this is only a short-term fix. If that’s true, I’m not sure how to proceed.
The way I understand it - it had to do with inferior electro-plating from one of the early vendors. They have since changed vendors to solve the problem.

I’m having the same issue with my 2021. Dealership says it’s not under warranty any more and it’ll cost $1,700 to replace the trim. No thanks!! Has anyone had much luck with Customer Care?

Has it been 36 months for you or 36,000 miles?

I have same problem 2021 Telluride. Found an awesome detailer in Houston who was able to correct the issue. Looks brand new.

Do u have info on detailed you used? I’m in Houston and would love to contact!

I just now returned from Archer Kia in Houston TX where they replaced the defective Nightfall window trim on my '21 Telluride (26K miles). Kia approved the in-warranty replacement within 24 hours of submission and the dealer had the parts in two days. Replacement took a couple days due to scheduling. My purpose here is to determine if this is an ongoing issue or has it been fixed on the replacement parts. Any feedback on the replacement parts?

I am so glad I found this forum and I am not alone with this issue. I have a 2022 Nightfall and I have detailed cars for a long time and have never seen fading like this and I would call staining on trim pieces. For some reason its much more pronounced on the passenger side. But both look horrible.
