• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... We have a 21 sx nightfall Kia , will there ever be a recall on a known problem with the window trim fading

If it's not been done by now I would say highly unlikely. Not sure what the priority of recalls on cosmetic issues are. Seems to be a self reporting problem that is dealt with on a dealer to dealer basis.

We have a '21 wolf grey Nightfall edition that showed no effect until our dealer washed the car during an oil change/multi-point inspection. It tarnished terribly with the wash job, when it had not seemed to do so with our many washes prior to this one. We brought this up with the dealer, who then tried to buff out the issue. That created two problems: chromed spots rather than tarnished spots, and us not wanting to return to our nearest dealer (who sold us the car). Our next closest dealer, 100mi away, turned in photos of the issue and has guaranteed us full replacement of the trim. This has been a few months now, of waiting on the trim to arrive, but at the very least it gives us hope that Kia is going to cover the replacement of the trim. Different dealer, different results, I'd say. I'm anxious that pulling the rear panel small windows to replace trim there might result in new noises, as we currently (<60Kmi) have very little road noise. I'm anxious that the deal will fall through and this dealer won't be able to cure it at no cost. I'm anxious that we've been advised that the new trim is exactly the same as the old trim and can also tarnish. I'm anxious that we'll get past 60Kmi and Kia will forget the guarantee they made us a few months ago. But, we do have the dealer and Kia's guarantee of trim replacement at no cost, for what it is worth. Good luck on your end :)

Same here. Dark Moss Nighfall. People keep asking what I did to window trim. Sun fade??

I have a ‘21 nightfall dark moss that is 2 years old as of today. I hand wash mine during the summer months and the trim looked great. However, in the winter months I go through a touchless wash and that has destroyed the trim finish. I am fairly confident it is due to the more harsh chemicals used in a commercial wash. I’m sitting at the dealership now waiting on an oil change and they are going to write a warranty request on the trim. Sure hope it gets approved.

I wouldn't blame anything you have done. They are just poorly made. I suppose you can hand wash and garage your car to slow down the problem but it seems to cause a visible change at some point.

I was just told that the trim on a telluride is only covered for 36 months. Not the 72 months loke
Most other parts of the vehicle. Anyone else have this issue or is it accurate?

I guess for Kia, as long as it lasts 36 months, that's a win(y)

That's why I have an extended warranty

Where did you get the information that they will cover it under the 36months? Just had to take mine to the body shop for an accident and when they (hand) washed it it made all of the trim look like it rained acid! I am beyond annoyed at the quality of the parts used on the telluride.

My NF trim was replaced by KIa.

Hey Brett. As a Kia salesman I will say that this is an issue that we have been noticing here and as far as our store here in central Oregon we have found that it is a manufacturer covered issue and have been having them replaced on Kia's dime. Hope this helps

YES!! This I also have a NF Wolf Gray. Had it for a year and a half never had an issue. The dealer washed the car and boom the fading started. Thankfully it was prior to 36000 and they replaced it. I tell them DO NOT WASH MY CAR. When I wash I hand dry the trim, they don’t. I don’t have any added noise or defects since the trim replacement and rear window replacements.

Brett, how often will they replace? My car has had one replacement and I can tell mention is starting to fade again much quicker than before. I have 37,000 on my car.

We finally gave up on the trim replacement through our nearest dealers. It was always on the way, but not happening. We traded the '21 Telluride for a '24 and hope to avoid the black trim fade issue if it remains in this model. Very glad that your dealers followed through!

I just hit 36,000 and my trim replacement has been approved and parts ordered. My service tech told me this is covered up to 60k miles and theoretically it would be covered as many times as necessary up to that mileage.

Wow! Interesting read. Dealing with this trim issue on my ‘21 wolf grey nightfall edition and it’s just under 60k miles. Called Kia warranty they said start process with my dealership. Then wait and hope they agree to fix. $65k for a car and trim fades within a year and a half? Absurd.

Yep, 21 blk sportage nightfall. Window trim 1st, then wheels. Lifetime warranty plus wheels warranty...trim turned after 2nd oil change. They never covered it. Wheels flaked off around 50000 miles. Nope doesn't cover cosmetics! Very disappointed but they don't care. It's mine now. What am I going to do? Stop paying for it and ruin my credit? Nope. Whine and hope. Looking for after market replacements now. Goodluck
