• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... We have a '21 wolf grey Nightfall edition that showed no effect until our dealer washed the car during an oil change/multi-point inspection. It tarnished terribly with the wash job, when it had not seemed to do so with our many washes prior to this one. We brought this up with the dealer, who then tried to buff out the issue. That created two problems: chromed spots rather than tarnished spots, and us not wanting to return to our nearest dealer (who sold us the car). Our next closest dealer, 100mi away, turned in photos of the issue and has guaranteed us full replacement of the trim. This has been a few months now, of waiting on the trim to arrive, but at the very least it gives us hope that Kia is going to cover the replacement of the trim. Different dealer, different results, I'd say. I'm anxious that pulling the rear panel small windows to replace trim there might result in new noises, as we currently (<60Kmi) have very little road noise. I'm anxious that the deal will fall through and this dealer won't be able to cure it at no cost. I'm anxious that we've been advised that the new trim is exactly the same as the old trim and can also tarnish. I'm anxious that we'll get past 60Kmi and Kia will forget the guarantee they made us a few months ago. But, we do have the dealer and Kia's guarantee of trim replacement at no cost, for what it is worth. Good luck on your end :)

I used cooktop cleaner to remove pitting and it's ;ole new now.

You could paint the panels if you really want to pretty. Like they do on the Toyota Sport and Limited models.

Where did you get the information that they will cover it under the 36months? Just had to take mine to the body shop for an accident and when they (hand) washed it it made all of the trim look like it rained acid! I am beyond annoyed at the quality of the parts used on the telluride.
It looked like it rained acid because when they prep a vehicle for paint, they wash it with a degreaser to get any wax and contaminants off. That is a death sentence for the Nightfall trim. Body shop replaced at no cost.

I was getting some tires the other day at local Kia dealer and they informed me there's a "recall" on the trim and they are replacing it on my '22 SX Nightfall. I asked three times if it was a "real actual recall" or just a TSB or something. The guy said "recall" several times. I didn't see any recall about that when I looked it up though so who knows what he was talking about. But my trim doesn't look great, so they are replacing it.

I bought the car used, but it was from my parents and I took it to the same dealer they had all the maintenance and other recalls on it done, so they knew the car history. Not sure if that makes a difference since I didn't buy the car new. I registered the car with Kia and everything and have the app working in my name and never heard anything about it before the dealer said something. 🤷‍♂️

I've heard my dealer use the same term, but I think it is actually classified as a Technical Service Bulletin. I found it online and it didn't use the term recall. The name of the TSB is "DOOR BELT OUTSIDE WEATHERSTRIP REPLACEMENT (CA2504)". It indicates that it is as "Technical Service Bulletin is a field fix repair program without customer notification that may be performed during the warranty period." It goes on to say that "This bulletin should only be performed with valid customer complaint of door belt outside weatherstrip(s) detachment and/or separation."

I went into my dealer about a month ago as I was starting to see it separate (metal strip from the flexible plastic weatherstrip) on the door behind my driver's door. I had no discoloration or other issues that I've read about. The dealer set up an appointment to fully assess it. In my case, even though it is only loose on the one door, they replaced it on all four doors under the TSB. It took them only about 4 days to get the parts in and and an hour or so to do the work. Looks great.

I've never taken my car through a car wash, live in a mild climate, and it hasn't been subject to constant high temperatures. My car is in the garage whenever I'm at home. According to the TSB, affected vehicles may be missing an adhesive layer, causing the outer faceplate to detach/separate from the door belt outside weatherstrip molding.

Yeah apparently that kid that swore up and down it was an actual recall didn't know what he was talking about.

I just installed Weathertech vent shades the other day. I wonder if I'll have to pop them out and reinstall them again for them to do the trim replacement?
Also can see in pic my trim is gray and textured, not black, especially near the roof. Car is dirty in pic so it makes it look better compared to the paint, compared to when everything is clean.

Late to the game, but I got my trim covered and replaced by the dealer this past summer on a 2021. I hassled them over and over again for over a year and a half. It sucked, it was a huge pain and I had to get out of my comfort zone and be that relentless complainer guy, but when you pay $50,000+ for something and there is an obvious defect, they need to take care of it.
