• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Hey guys, I am new to the forum stuff. I need some help, My wife and I bought a 2020 Kia telluride and it had 110k on the mileage when we got it. 4 or 5 months ago we realized that it was using oil. when I realized it was using it we was about 500 miles till the 5000 oil change was due. I put 4 1/2 quarts of oil in it. Took it to the dealership and the service man said “I don’t think you’re reading the dipstick right” . To say I was mad is an understatement. I showed him the empty quart jugs and they kept giving us the run around. They ended up finding out the rings on the pistons are shot. My question is has anyone had that problem and what did you do? I know it’s gonna need a motor. I just don’t know where y’all have found them and how much? Thanks for the help

You might want to take a look at some of the research coming out about how these engine rings are becoming stuck with carbon build-up. Valvoline has come out with a synthetic oil called Restore and Protect to address this specific issue. This is what I would try before tearing the engine apart.
