• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Good afternoon guys! New to the forum here. Seems like a nice community we got going. So the amp blew in the Telluride. I was looking at a replacement but even a used Harmon Kardon amp is close to $700 on eBay. Can I use a different brand amp? If so, would quality be greatly affected? FYI I am no where near an expert when it comes to audio. Thanks for the help in advance.

First, always check for warranty coverage. There are usually limitations built into these things so they don't simply "blow" with normal use.

Also worth stating here for future readers to 2x check all the H/K connections/fuses/etc.

Otherwise in addition to amplification the H/K amp also does some essential HU processing, so there is no way to directly swap in an aftermarket amp (different story for the non-H/K system). There are others in this forum who have successfully bypassed the H/K amp with aftermarket equipment to improve their overall audio performance, but at that cost you could still spend less $$$ on a replacement H/K unit (immensely overpriced, IMO).

That is a huge hemp. I didn’t know that. Thank you!

My apologies if your first forum post comes with $700 price tag.

lol it looks like it will but seems like to cheapest option right now. No worries. Thanks again.
It looks like the Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe models have the same HK amp and the plugs look the same. You think I would have any luck there?

The Kia Cadenza also has the same Amp and same wattage from HK. Any reason why this would not work?

If those alternative amps have the same part# then they should be okay, but I wouldn't think an identical unit would vary in price solely based on what model vehicle it's installed in. If a different part# then I don't know if there is any way to tell what software/processing capabilities it has and whether it's compatible with the Telly. Consider keeping an eye out for someone parting out a totaled Telly and perhaps getting the amp for cheaper than eBay??? Check over on the corresponding FB group as well.
