Order to delivery time

Finally got mine but not as expected. Ordered a gray SX eight weeks ago (no prestige because they weren't taking orders). Order accepted last week, still no VIN. Salesman called me up and said a guy ordered one 12 weeks ago and it just came in but he already bought another car. Asked if I wanted to look at it. Exact same as mine but with prestige. I left work early checked it out and bought it. 2 more people were coming in to look at it that evening. Finally a little luck went my way. telluride 11.webptelluride 12.webptelluride13.webp

Sometimes it is like winning the lottery... congratulations! Really nice vehicle and color combo.
It did kind of feel like winning the lottery. Definitely worth the wait. Awesome vehicle inside and out!

Congrats. Price?

All right. Just got the call. Ordered March 25, 2019. Est Delivery date is now 9/11. Yep, 24 weeks.

Moss/ Dune SxP
Mud Guard
Bumper Guard
Illumination Kit
Skid Plate
Scuff Plate

According to the reports, it was the skid plate that caused most of the delays.

Update:
Jul 30. Dealership now says SX is on its way to Elwood IL. Not sure what happened earlier this month. Marked as ‘hot’, whatever that means.
Update:
Aug 2. Picked up the SX. Woo hoo!

After no information from the dealer for 18 weeks, the Telluride I ordered has finally appeared on the dealer site. Finally a light at the end of the tunnel...

Update on this: False alarm, the dealer cannot confirm whether this car can be allocated to me because there are 12 orders ahead of mine for SXP and a few with the same or very similar specs. In either case it won't be in until late September, so I'm still completely in the dark.

I finally got off my ass to do some investigating of my own and called up 12 other dealers in the area (area being generous, I wouldn't consider some of these to be within reasonable driving distance) and they all told me pretty much the same thing:
Most dealers told me that Kia is not actually taking Telluride orders because the Telluride is not an 'in-production' vehicle yet. They are just manufacturing some random allocations and sending them out to dealerships for advertising purposes. Full production is not expected to begin until approximately December (according to at least 2 dealers who somehow claim to have this information).

Incidentally, some dealers claim they can place orders, while most claim that they cannot place orders. One dealer (that claims they cannot place orders) told me explicitly that any dealer that claims they can place an order is lying- they can place requests with Kia, but cannot guarantee that Kia will add their vehicle to the build queue (yet). No dealer could guarantee that an order placed today for a Prestige Telluride could be filled this year, but some told me it is likely that an order placed today will be filled by December.

Is this just a regional thing? I am in Northeast US.

Ordered on June 23; notified by dealer the Filled Date (accepted date I assume) was June 30; dealer contacted me last week with new eta of August 7.

Update: Got it delivered yesterday! Great driving SUV and ready to get familiar with using everything.

Great experience in Panama City, FL at Bill Byrd Kia.

From reading the entire forum I think a lot of this is true to a degree and can be up to interpretation. Yes. All orders are requests. Then the factory accepts the order. That is always the case for any car from Kia and not specific to the Telluride.

Dealers were not able to order any more prestige’s until about a week ago. So some dealers may not realize it is back open. When you call you get a random person on the phone and they may not know much. Most know less than anyone on this forum. In the last three months my salesman and sales manager have left the dealer. Turn over is generally high with car dealers. So they likely have not been there super long (of course there are exceptions).

With the current back log Kia at one point says there was a four month back log. So yes. Some orders may not get filled until December or January just like the wait most are experiencing now.

My understanding from my calls is that no dealer in my area has had any orders accepted this year for the Telluride. I initially placed my order back in March, as have apparently dozens of others in my area.

Edit: Also, Several dealers told me they are getting "bombed" with requests for the Telluride SXP- seems doubtful they wouldn't know that they can place orders now, but possible.

Except a lot of people have had orders accepted and fulfilled this year. I am in the mid Atlantic. Ours was placed. Accepted and now vin issued for the exact specifications.

There was theories that the orders are just snagged in the system or being randomly fulfilled. But then how did the dealers show it accepted at the factory?

Not trying to argue and I’ll leave it alone. Doesn’t matter mine is due in the next couple of weeks.

Where in northeast are you? The dealer that ordered my SXPs will place orders again with refundable deposit.

Here is my thought...If I put a downpayment on them... and then find it non refundable... I guarantee there will be that much, if not more...damage to their property. Not hard to do and not get caught. You did the payment in good faith so.... you figure it out. IMHO

None of the orders at my dealer have been accepted by the factory (according to their sales manager). I find this dubious but don't have any evidence against this claim. The one other dealer salesperson that was able to talk about the subject at all told me they haven't had any accepted orders this year. They've been handing them out based on random allocations matching customer orders.

I get it, I'm just really frustrated and don't know who or what to believe anymore. Kia customer service has proven extremely unhelpful in this whole situation as well. No one knows anything. Dealers claim to have no information. Kia claims to not know any more than the dealer.

Northern New Jersey, if you can point me to a guy who knows a guy...
Edit: Area map if it helps:

edit2: Just as an aside, this is not only the worst car buying experience I've ever had, but probably the worst experience purchasing any product pretty much ever.

So I just found out today that there was a glitch in Kia's system and my order along with about a dozen others was mistakenly cancelled. My dealer didn't even know except they were pressing the Kia rep to answer questions about the status. If you ordered May 4-6 make sure your order is still in the system. I guess I'll be waiting even longer now...
So your dealer is blaming KIA. Did they never receive an order number? Did he never say hey your order is in and has been accepted? If neither of those things happened I would consider changing dealer's considering that over two months has passed.

I've done business with them before. Even if it was their mistake, they're trying to make it right.

I did get confirmation that the order was accepted a few weeks after I ordered it, but did not get an order number, unfortunately.

Disclaimer im in Cleveland... but if you want to order an SXP at MSRP minus incentives without games on arrival AND are willing to drive... my guy here in Ohio will order it with a refundable deposit over the phone. It'll take a while anywhere, but he'll give you weekly updates and not keep you in the dark.
