Spark Plug Replacement - Maintenance 97,500 Miles

I noticed my 2020 Kia Telluride would shake and do some weird stuff when idling, the mpg's are suffering, and acceleration feels weaker. After some research I found that it is related to the spark plugs and this makes sense because I did cross the recommended replacement of spark plugs at 97,500 miles. I wanted to ask what type of quotes you have gotten for this job? I have been told it takes about 3 hours because removal of the intake and manifold are required for accessing the spark plugs. Due to this I am getting quotes between $622 - $880 after calling 8 places, including the dealer. Does this seem right?

Just got quoted $702 from the dealer today. Only at 82k so I'll put it off awhile longer.

I'm in Canada and at my recent service, my dealership recommended I get them replaced as well. I think the quote was somewhere around just under $700 CDN.

Did mine at 95,000 miles at 750.00

If you are handy you can do yourself and save a shit ton of money. Spark plugs are cheap. NGK for $5.93 x 6.

Anyone have a service guide or video for this? My Telly at 101k miles seems to have either a bad plug or coil (idling rough and other related symptoms). I found a Youtube video in which someone just points at the various hoses, harnesses, screws, etc that need to be removed, and it looks pretty involved. I'm willing to give it a try but I'd feel a lot more comfortable with a more detailed set of instructions. Thanks!

Thanks, I found a Pallisade step-by-step video that I think would be virtually the same on a Telly. Turns out my problem wasn't the spark plugs, so I didn't end up doing this:

Replacing all my spark plugs soon.

Currently at 109,292 miles, no performance declines, it’s just about the right time for new ones and i want to get it done before anything arises.

DIY is a good idea.

As far as dealership service departments, your price ranges seem right.

Called my local Kia to check costs and they estimate parts/labor at around $675

I looked over the you tube videos and I think I will do the plugs myself. Right now the Telly is in the dealer shop with 3 codes: P0341, P219E, and P21A0. Runs rough when idling, and has less power. I am hoping it is just the cam sensor. But it has 130K miles, and needs a tuneup.

Kia really likes to screw people over! Just called a dealership about the cost and availability of the camshaft sensor for the Telly. He wants $150 and can't get one for 3 days. Funny that KiaPartsNow has them for $105.

Yes, I'm finding the markups are crazy. I have been going to the dealership for the general oil change but once they recommend additional services due to wear and tear, I pass and go to my local mechanic is much cheaper and the parts are just as good. Probably made by the same supplier as the Kia parts.

Well the Kia dealership found the rough idle cause. The oil filter housing was leaking and the engine only had 2 it's of oil in it. I thought it was bs, but then the mechanic mentioned cam phasers and that was not getting oil for them to work correctly. The oil filter housing was changed out back in early 2023 and only lasted 2.5 years. I am going to get the aluminum version of this item and put that in the next time. BTW, dealership charged me $650 to replace the filter housing.

Glad you got it figured out! Out of curiosity, did they mention any concerns about any long term damage that might have happened from driving with low oil?
