2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

The most likely cause, in this order: tire balance, tire out of round, wheel out of round, CV joint binding, drive shaft binding.

Tire pressure won't be the cause of a vibration, but might cause harder ride or softer ride, also pulling if the left or the right tire pressure is substantially different.

We have determined it's in the divetrain thus removing tires and wheels. Somebody as stated above removed the DS and the Vibration went away which then removes the CV joints. It has to be a DS not balanced correctly or out of phase.

Dropped my Telluride SXP at dealer Tuesday for vibration issue and let dealer know that several dealers of members on the forum had diagnosed issue to rear propeller shaft. Just got a call, they confirmed that my vibration was coming from rear propeller shaft (Tech had removed - vibration/noise went away). Dealer indicated guidance from Techline was to send shaft out to a specialized shop to balance the shaft. They were working to get that done, but might be Monday before they could work out locating shop and the logistics/paperwork to get it done.

So it's starting to sound like this may be a universal issue on AWD caused by the rear drive shaft. How long before Kia Corp acknowledges this issue and gives direction to the dealers without the need to call into the Techline? Understand this part is likely a third party supply issue, but getting them rebalanced can't be cheap. I am buying my SXP from the same dealership as the Colonel, so at least they will know what to do if I experience this issue. Ordered mine late July, expect to get sometime before the holidays. Wonder if Kia will have fixed this issue by then?

So my dealer just called. Apparently, the transfer case is bad!!!!! Kia is going along with this diagnosis. I have nothing further right now. They are going to call me later today with more information.

That makes no sense since removing the DS makes it go away. The transfer case would still be spinning from the axles and I would think the vibration would still be there while driving with out the DS.. But maybe these are engineered differently. Hopefully that is the fix and you'll be ready to go.

Just spoke to the service manager. The Telluride tech heard noise coming from the transfer case. Upon checking the fluid, there was metal in it.

I put 800+ miles on it with the vibration. It was subtle and it's hard to believe it was so bad it toasted the transfer case.

I advised them they better make sure that rear driveshaft is in balance as well. No estimate as to how long it'll take for a new transfer case.

This is not good! Totally unacceptable.

Don’t be too bummed out. Once they get those parts replaced it should be good as new.

Who's to say this isn't an issue with most of these? Guess I should have listened to my father. He always said to never buy a new model the first year it's released...

Most states lemon laws stipulate that it must be in the shop for the same problem 3 consecutive times without resolution.

If you go back and read this entire thread, some folks have gone back to the shop more than 3 times. I understand the good nature of working with KIA, the dealer, the engineers, etc. to try to figure this out. But if I am participating in this experiment, I better be compensated.

Who is to say the new car you may get, if that is even doable, will not have the same issue. This issue is not cropping up many months into ownership, it's there from the beginning.

And your point is? This problem affects only a few, so the chances of you getting a good one will be very high.
