2020 Telluride AWD rear end jerking thumping and vibrating

If you guys still don’t lemon this I don’t know what else to say. This is a mass produced KIA, not one of a kind collectible passed down 3 generations with irreplaceable sentimental values. Just get a new one (that doesn’t have this problem) and call it a day.

My EX AWD doesn’t have this vibration, 7k miles and mostly highway in that exact speed range.
 
Tellmeride, my dealer is trying to put me in one that does not have the issue. I returned/lemoned the one I purchased a week ago. Tried three others to no avail.
 
Thanks, guys. My original one was July build. One yesterday and today's were both August 1st.
 
From following this thread, it seems the problem began showing up in build dates around mid May.
 
Just drove almost 5 hours from NJ to VA with the EX AWD. No vibrations at all, the adaptive cruise control was a dream! I felt very slight pedal feedback on the gas pedal but other than that very smooth.
 
I understand your frustration and the temptation to make assumptions. Yet, I guarantee you not all AWDs have the vibration issue. Ours has no noise and no vibration at any speed. We have over 5,000 miles on ours driven primarily at speeds between 65 and 80 mph.
I agree, AWD here, over 5k frequently drive in the 70s and no issues.

If you all could quiet down the positivity a bit I’d certainly appreciate it. Some of us are still patiently waiting on the arrival of our vehicle and I’m hoping that threads like these will increase cancellations and expedite the process. Thanks in advance!
 
My SXP with a build date of August 5th has no issues so far. Only about 300 miles though... will post if I have anything come up.
 
While claiming lemon law on affected vehicles is one avenue for those who are frustratingly suffering up to a $40k KIA disappointment.

Though not all AWD owners are encountering this issue, clearly there is a problem. Why hasn't KIA started an investigation internally to rectify the problem? Does KIA use more than one vendor to provide the parts for the affected issue? One would think this should be easily narrowed down to specific vendors or possibly certain shift as the vehicle is assembled on the line.

Since this thread has over 270 posts it seems this is more than an arbitrary problem "for a couple of bad luck Telluride owners." Even dealers have pulled new Tellurides off the truck and found the same problem.

Has any one with this problem reported this to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration? Using every tool to available rectify the problem seems prudent for those who are suffering now and those who will ultimately suffer in the future if KIA isn't called on the issue.

Given all this information, Kia and Hyundai should put out at the minimum a service bulletin, and ideally a recall for the affected vehicles. The entire auto industry moves painfully slow, but these actions should happen sooner rather than later. At this point they should have plenty of evidence gathered to take immediate action.
 
I have an SX-P as well. I have isolated the location of the vibration to be just in front of the second row lights and just behind the front sunroof. If I push on my headliner at that position, the sound disappears. Also, it does seem to happen between 65 and 75. This wasn't happening that I could tell for the first few days of ownership. I received the vehicle on 7/25 and noticed the issue this morning, 7/30.

Are you talking about vibration or rattle?

Perhaps it’s the “vibration” manifesting itself as a rattle, but I get rattling in the 2nd row light assembly once in a while. When I hear it, I just press the assembly a little and it goes away. It’s probably a loose screw or fitting. I’ll need to see if I can tighten it up.

Anyway, I think this is a different issue than what the OP is experiencing.

Service bulletins come out once the problem and detailed solution are documented. It makes no sense to annonce, "hey, bulletin, we might have a vibration problem on some AWD models. We don't have a clue what is causing it yet, and we have no solution. But, we might have a problem.... Stand by"
 
Why do you assume Kia isn't seeking a solution? Juat because it isn't public? Gg
mrmac, I can only assume, as KIA has shown no evidence or outreach to the contrary. This is about getting it right, so owner(s) with this problem don't suffer a possible catastrophic failure. Now it becomes a safety issue. That's the point.
 
The sales guy then drove it with me in the passenger seat. He noticed it and said, "I would never buy this, let alone sell one with this problem!"

There is truly a major defect with the AWD version, regardless of trim level (or if it's a Pallisade). I think other folks who own these and not had the problem either have not driven at interstate speeds yet or just think the noise and vibration is normal for the vehicle.
So sorry man. Bummed for you two.
 
What potential catastrophic failure? The platform is primarily FWD.
 
We don't have a clue what is causing it yet, and we have no solution.
We have two clues, out of balance driveshaft and/or defective transfer case. Since the rear driveshaft was taken off one vehicle and the vibration went away, this is a pretty significant development.
Solution: Inspect any AWD Tellurides with the vibration problem, and repair/replace these defective parts as necessary.
