• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... My vin is right around 37,000 and I bought mine about a month ago. I read only 40,000 units were being made. It seems that Kia is selling right around 5500 a month (probably cause that’s all that they can make a month). With this info you would assume that September/October is the last month you will be able to buy a Telly. If it is true we all know that dealers are going to hold their last one and put a sticker on it that says MSRP + $10,000. Anyone know if Kia plans on making over 40,000 or when they are projected to be sold out?

I think 40,000 units is the target they set for production, basically their threshold for a successful launch, being that the competitors are averaging nearly 100,000 units or more it would be somewhat a bumble move to holdback if they can break past that 40,000, I pretty sure they'll produce them until part suppliers run dry and the holiday break hits in at the factory.

No way. If there is demand for anything in this world, it will be made. But I do think they are having production and parts supply issues, because these Tellurides are trickling out to dealers so painfully slow. I am also hoping they are addressing the problems that have been talked about on this forum.

Also remember, it is not even 2020 yet! They still have almost a whole year to crank these vehicles out.

They have increased the number from 40k. Production will go on. The end number I'm not certain about.

As of today (September 18, 2019) the last VIN produced is 5XYP5DHC0LG047906 (2020 TELLURIDE SX V6 AWD - Everlasting Silver with black interior and prestige and towing package). The first VIN produce was 5XYP5DHCXLG001001. As of today 46,907 Tellurides have been produced: 41,145 for the US market and 5,762 for Canadian and Middle East market.

In this VIN, the 'L' at position 10 is the year 2020. For 2021, the letter at position 10 will be 'M'.

Vehicle identification number - Wikipedia

So all Tellurides currently produced are still 2020 model year and I don't expect the 2021 to be produced until march/april 2020.

The regional distribution adds to 46,907 - which is close to the last VIN - so is that number correct? Was 49,907 just a typo? Thanks for keeping track of this. At some point, I could put together a simple web app.

Don't worry. They will keep producing Telluride as long as there are demands. I saw many articles (most of them are in Korean) about increase production.
40,000 units was only the very original plan for 2019 calendar year when Kia launched it back in February. Things have been changed as it became popular.

Yes 49,907 was a typo (it should have been 46,907). I have now fixed it.

I work for kmmg where we make the telluride and I can promise you we are in no way going to stop making them. We actually can't make enough.

I work at KMMG, we're the only plant in the world making the Telluride. We can't make these things fast enough. No signs of slowing. We're limited on the number of Tellurides that we can make at one time simply because some weld shop capabilities, but measures are being put in place to remedy that. This is the best vehicle we've ever made so no need to worry.

So we ordered our SWP SXP on 8/3 and as of yesterday our order is no longer being built and production is done. My salesperson said that she will have our vin# and sticker in a week.

Is this proper protocol? I would’ve thought telling me production being done on my order you would have a vin # already.

I ordered from the # 4 volume dealer in the country not a small dealership.

I ordered an SX on 7/1 and still don’t even have a VIN.

Did you truly order the vehicle with the accessories/options you wanted? Some dealers are not ordering at all but rather matching inbound trucks to wait lists. The dealer would have gotten a "filled order" from KIA with your name attached to the order. An internal number is assigned for some time before a Vin is attached to the vehicle. Not saying this didn't happen but lot of moving parts and wait times. Size of the store only matters if they have allocated inbound vehicles coming in with no assigned homes to begin with. Dealers do not get special treatment if they are bigger.

We placed a very specific order, with a deposit 14 weeks ago. At 10 weeks we were told Kia factory “deleted the order”. The dealer Tried to source it, but had to trade other dealer for a comparable car....that never happened. The dealership should have been following up. We lost faith in the dealership, cancelled the order. Frankly I would not have trusted that dealership for service, and since every Kia dealership in our area is owned by same people, we walked away. Kia corporate needs to know the dealers are going to have to up thier game to compete with Toyota, good new Telluride car or not. If the dealers are bad.....they lose business.

The 2020MY should continue into production well into next year.

Likely won't switch to the 2021MY until close to the normal switch-over time (Aug-Sept.).

Thanks for the info. I figured that supply and demand would dictate the production I just couldn’t find anything on the web about it (in English).

Yes, that could be proper protocol. I wasn't given a VIN when told it was on the way and given a delivery date - but I eventually saw it pop up on the cars.com website with my exact MSRP and options - and guessed the VIN. I did that in the morning (or the day before), and soon thereafter the salesperson told me the car was at the dealership.

First, ask for a delivery date... it's probably just waiting to be transported.

This is what I was thinking. I think they debuted the 2020 Telluride in Feb-Mar 2019 in “limited production” because it was a new model—and they knew there would be some unforeseeable problems which they would need time to work out. And sure enough, some of the early adopters got screwed with spontaneously breaking windshields for which replacements aren’t available, vibrating AWD powertrains, and leaky rear window wash nozzles.
But if you have the patience to wait for when production finally ramps up, Kia is probably saying “All Clear”, and you will get a better deal on the vehicle, and most of these problems will have hopefully been solved.

Yes we did SWP/SXP/Gray Nappa. With trade in appraised, 500 deposit and with loan and paperwork done. All we have to do is bring in the trade/title and sign papers and we out the door.
