In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi everyone,

Like millions of buyers out there in the wild, my search for a 3-row family hauler has come down to a battle between two Davids!

I have read, watched and re-read/re-watched reviews, blogs, opinions and videos on both and comparisons between the two. I think I need a break at this point. :)

Anyway, I have boiled it all down to this line of thinking:

1. At the top end, if I don't care about AWD (here in Texas), then the Limited Palisade at MSRP (44,700) takes the prize over a Telly SXP (46,285 with tow or 45,490 without). Why? That amazing looking digital cluster AND some money saved! Just that instrument cluster in itself makes me want to jump at the Pally.

2. If not choosing between the top end, then the Telly SX (41,490) is a better bet than the Pally SEL + Convenience + Premium + Driver assistance packages (41385). I'm saying this as at this point they both are essentially equal, BUT I can now jump for the Dark Moss + Butterscotch interior combo in the Telly.

I am not really looking at the other advantages of the Pally (like reclining 3rd row) or Telly (2nd-row ventilated with SX) at this point.

So then the real question is:

Is the 3,200$ upgrade from the Telly SX to the Pally Limited worth it for that amazing fully programmable instrument cluster?

I have full quotes for both vehicles from local dealers charging only MSRP, and with TTL included on both, the difference is actually about $2600.

Your thoughts folks??

Cheers!

I've owned Telluride AWD SX with standard package for 4 months.
If I have to choose between Telly SX (41490) and Pally Limited (44,700), I would choose the Pally. I think the digital cluster, HUD, heated/ventilated second row seats and nappa leather are worth more than $3000. As I drive my Telly more, I get more miss HUD.
By the way, some car reviewers say AWD system helps with comfort riding and handling in some ways even on non-snowy roads.

Not familiar with the digital cluster on the Palisade but it must be fantastic if you’re looking at spending an extra $2600. That’s a pretty expensive bell/whistle...personally I’d keep that $2600 in my pocket and opt for the SX..but I’m a bit partial....just saying 😃

FWIW, the Telly 3rd row also reclines albeit manually :)

My wife "just couldn't" get past the grille on the Pallisade. And she required the second row heating/cooling. So, SX-P for us.

Well, the PALLY looks a lot like a run of the mill CHEVY TRAVERSEty

Have u driven both? If not you should. I did and liked the ride much better in the telluride in my opinion drive them back to back. My husband agreed that’s why I decided on the wait for ordering the telluride. Plus I thought the interior was a little tacky looking in pally. Felt more grounded to the road in telluride not floating on top of it. If that makes any sense I don’t know how else to describe the ride

yea, the front end of that Palisade is fugly to say the least..if not for that, then I would have considered it. That and if they would have had a traditional shifter. Also, repositioned the phone charger elsewhere so it doesn't or the phone doesn't get shorted out from the cups sweating.

We have a thread dedicated to comparing these two. I think you need to get your price quotes for desired trims, and then make the decision. You omit the destination charge from the numbers above which adds $1100. Also, there are options on some that will add to MSRP like carpeted mats.

Furthermore, Kia had a rebate for using their financing - Hyundai did not. Also consider financing specials - unless you just want to pay cash. If you order Telluride you can get a discount of MSRP as a Costco member at Kia of Muncie.

But ,you might be able to find Palidade in stock and negotiate a discount... so keep searching. You can't go wrong with either. Also, I don't believe that the Palisade's instrument cluster is "fully programmable" and customizable like that in the Audi Prestige or Mercedes. It's just digital and changes a bit. I could be wrong. Get the vehicle that makes you happy for your budget.

For me, my SX-P was about $45,500 after all rebates. A FWD Limited Palisade is $46,100 incl. destination - so for me, the SX-P was a no-brainer. Got AWD and top trim for less than FWD Limited Palisade after rebates were factored in. Also got better financing terms than Hyundai was offering.

Thank you jw_tx21. I appreciate your detailed answer. The destination is about the same on both (1095).

Doesn't look like Kia has that particular (1500 off) rebate at the moment.

To be honest, I don't think that either of these are negotiable very much with the dealers who are both charging MSRP (plus any incentives).

Wow, your SXP was 45,500?? Amazing!! My quoted SX itself is close to 46K!! (SX is 41,490 + floor mats + cargo net + Texas sales tax + TL).

Of course, there 1 grand off this at the moment, but by the time mine comes in, who knows what the rebates/incentives will be like then?

I have driven the Telluride, but not the Palisade. My wife has driven both, though on different days. She liked how both of them drove, but couldn't really discern a difference due to how far apart she drove them.

The tacky looking interior .... I need to inspect that a little more. Several of the online youtube reviews mention that the interior is really plush on the Palisade, but I have also heard the odd quip about the interior being slightly more 'plastic-y' on the Palisade. Anyway, I am hoping to at least try and drive one tomorrow with any luck!

Yes on line in looked very cool but in person it just seemed a little cheap looking. It is not a bad suv it just did not compare to telluride. Good luck let us know how u did!

FYI: I have Telly SX and the 3rd row does recline as well. My kids love it so they aren’t sitting straight up.

Test drove a SXP the first week of March instantly fell head over heels for the Telly. I could not for the life of me believe that I wanted to buy a Kia. Currently owner of 13 Explorer XLT so jumping in that SXP with all that tech and styling I was immediately blown away.

Aug 2 I test drove the limited Palisade and I will admit I liked it a lot but the clear winner to me and my wife was the Telluride hands down. The Palisade even in the limited seems cheap and knock off from what the Telluride offers.

Aug 3 we ordered our SWP/SXP.

I also drove both did like the tally inside much better rides were similar but the tally was more manly-looking ordered mine beginning of September don't know when it will come in ordered mine fully loaded

I tested both. Personally, I prefer the wireless charger and instrument cluster on the palisade, but I saw some videos that commented the Palisade's full digital cluster was a bit laggy and the revs go the opposite way, which is more preference than anything else.

I think the Palisade has 2 extra speakers, if that matters. This is comparing sxp + tow hitch vs limited.

One of the things I liked and didnt like at the same time about the Palisade was the suspension auto leveling; I liked that it came included, I didnt like that Hyundai dealer told me there are no Palisade with tow hitch nor have they been sent the part to install.

The seats look better on the telluride but they might be plushie in the palisade. I was all for the Palisade and was in the list to get one, but when I got a call that a fully loaded sxp had arrived and the original person had not claimed it, I was at the dealer within minutes.

After everything is said and done, I don't regret my decision. Either car works, if money is mo objection at the top level, go for the knee that makes you happiest when you look at it, when you sit on it, and when you drive it.

So far I've seen 3 tellurides and 2 Palisade out and about (besides at dealers of course) around my area.

My wife ended up loving the telluride so it was an easy choice, as well.

Good luck!
