Order to delivery time

I'm guessing they'll in all reality stop orders on 2020's at some point, and then look to take orders for 2021's. So as jw_tx21 says above, any cars ordered now will be 2020's for sure unless the dealer says they ordered it but really didn't. I would wonder if the manufacturer would give them a heads up saying to take no more new 2020 orders after X date. I would bet many dealers that folks have put money down for their cars from have more on the "list" to be ordered than actually will get allocations for 2020's, but hey I could be wrong and I'm no expert with any sort of knowledge other than what I read on here.

I am also somewhat confused if Kia had any insight into how this was going to go and what their plans are to remedy this production issue. Reason I say that is manufacturers like Chevy are already saying... we have X capacity for Corvette's in a year, and are saying they aren't taking anymore orders at this point. They know what they can handle, and are being pretty clear about it. Kia on the other hand, I'm not sure many folks know including some of the insiders on here. If they aren't going to be able to make our cars within 4-6 months, just tell us. So if anyone from Kia is watching... what is your production capacity to make these in a year, and can you fill all these open yet technically unaccepted orders in the 2020 model year? We know the reports of 340k cars produced a year in that plant, but that is likely shared w/ the Sorento and Optima as well.

Initially they said they'd build 40k during calendar year 2020. VINs are around 65k, so they definitely increased production in response to demand. If the order queue becomes too long for fulfillment, they will stop taking orders. They did this once already when they stopped taking SX-P orders from mid-May to late July. They are watching and they understand their queue.

You would think we could get a solid answer to whether they will halt production of 2020 at some point. Honestly, we shouldn't be getting a 2020 when the 2021s will be in production and out. I would like to know how the production plant is handling that? How many lines are devoted to 20s vs. 21s. And will I want to just cancel my order of a 20 and order a 21 b/c it will end up off the line faster?

They would finish out 20's then start 21's. They wouldn't start 21's and make 20's at the same time. My guess is that they haven't made a solid decision yet on when to halt sales of 2020's and when 2021 production begins. A lot of marketing goes into whether something is the "best selling", etc.. If they leave the year open longer then they'll have better odds of beating out some competitor in that regard. Which would help them in 2021 sales which would be after many of us on here likely get ours.

You may get the oddball 2021 that gets delivered before an ordered 2020 because of shipping speed. You'll also see new dealer stock 20's (or orders people backed out on) sitting on lots as 21's come out too since they were made and shipped ahead of a cutoff.

I have had a bit of strange situation. I ordered the SXP, white/dune, with tow package on 8/26, was given a lead time of 3-4 months. The saleslady texted me mid October and said it had an ETA of 10/28-11/5, which seemed too good to be true. She quit before the end of October, and the SXP never arrived. The salesguy that took over my account has been really nice, but really couldn't me an explanation on the ETA being missed, and it seems like he doesn't have anymore information than me an on even a "rough" eta. After reading the horror stories here of their orders not being placed (and them not being aware), I am getting worried....4 months will be next week and and I still don't have an ETA. Is there anyway to get assurance the order was placed? Even a rough ETA would be nice, but I am worried I am going be waiting 6+ months (or longer if the order wasn't placed) for my new ride!

What store location or Dealer Code. I may be able to see if a Vin number has been created and see an ETA.

Here's what you do.

Visit the Google Sheet listed in the post below. Find your dealership, and look for any vehicles matching the description of your order being delivered to that dealership.

If you see that one has been delivered, call and inquire about it.

If you don't see a vehicle matching your description, ask @StephenCantrelle to see if a vehicle matching your order has been allocated to your dealership within the next few months.

If you strike out with both of those methods, then go back to your dealer and ask for the order number. It should be listed from KDealer. The order number should have the date of your order.

If you don't have an order number, they may not have actually ordered it.

Dean McCrary in Hattiesburg....and thank you for the kindness!

Thanks JW! I don't see that post or sheet. I'm on my phone if that matters....

Don’t see any SX AWD on the way at this time... check the google sheet jw_tx21 is referencing to see if one went to them around that time frame.. Dealer Code is MS015

You have a problem with that dealership. (1) They are VERY small. (2) They may be in trouble with Kia for some reason.

First, they have only received less than 40 Tellurides. Second, they (nor their store in Mobile) aren't receiving prestige vehicles - they only got two (one at each store) of the Dark Moss / Gray. They haven't received any other Prestige this year.

Sorry, but it appears that dealership has a problem or two.

@jw_tx21 So I went into the dealer on 11/1 and they placed an order. Was told on 11/14 the order had been accepted. Asked them last week for the order ID and was provided GA053-191209J027. Does this mean the order wasn't placed until Dec 9 and that's when the clock starts? Any red flags with this dealer?

That's about my luck...they are closest to my house and were at MSRP. I figured since there was a wait list it wouldn't matter where I went.

I put down a deposit (although it's a check they haven't cashed), so obviously I don't want to cancel and possibly lose that. I've heard from them in the last week and they said it is still on the way but they don't have an ETA. Anything I can do?

Yes, the order was placed 12/09/19. Red flags? yes - depends on the dealership though.

Yes you are right.

GA053/19/12/09/J/027

Actually breaks down to Dealer Code/Yr/month/day(of order being placed)
J=Telluride
027=how many orders they placed on that exact date

001- 1st
002-2nd
etc.etc.

oh boy, so you're telling me I'm the 27th order that was placed that day?

Yes, this is frustrating. There are 84 dealers / 781 listed that have had 0 or 1 SX Prestige vehicles delivered. If Stephen doesn't see it- it is unlikely to arrive before March. Many are smaller dealerships. If they haven't cashed the check - you can always stop payment on the check and then tell them you want to cancel. But, before you go that route, I would try to find your desired vehicle from another dealership (or place an order from a higher volume dealership who can get it faster). You'll have to work the phone - and it will be frustrating - but not impossible. The inventory spreadsheet we have on the forum will help you narrow down allocations of your desired trim.

Sorry for frustration... if I can help by searching through the spreadsheet for you, I will.

They probably realized that they didn't actually place a bunch of orders, so they did them all on the 9th. Yes, that would be when the clock starts. That is a store with a pretty good turnover - they've had 121 allocations to date (and 8 Prestige), so it has a chance of appearing. Though their Prestige percentage is below average. Hope it works out!

Double check the Request number and check to confirm the last 3 digits. If it is correct than holy cow that would kinda make sense trying to connect the dots. If you went in 11/11 they placed order 12/09...

Means possibly they had no one that knew how to do orders and did like a months worth of orders on the same day?!?

They have 13 Tellurides I can see on the way but none are SX AWD... what did you order??

As Jim Carey said "so you're telling me I have a chance!" Thanks for all the help you and @StephenCantrelle are providing the group!

As to going through MicheleW's spreadsheet, is there a way to tell what's been delivered? If I wanted to start dialing, should I start at the most recent VIN creation date?
