Order to delivery time

I assume he was reading that off the confirmed order from Kia but I don't know for sure.
He did say no VIN yet, as you mention below.
Do you have a requestID from your dealer?

The reason I ask is that I think sometimes, people the forum might be using the word order, in different ways. For me, it means placing a custom factory order with Kia, For others it seems to mean asking the dealer to sell them a vehicle out of dealer's allocated inventory. I could be wrong but that is the impression I get from reading some of the posts here.

Yes I have a custom order for sxp copper black dune. With a request id I know the order has been placed on sep 16 Not pestering my sales man lol but did reach out and they have heard nothing. Most of the sales people one here say they know nothing till they get the vin. Then comes the eta. I was told 3 to 4 months.

Use the google spreadsheet made by @Michelw to find a high volume dealer receiving Tellurides in your area.(just click the green name and click tab latest activity to get to the spreadsheet.) Then call them and find one taking orders without markup.. you will get the faster turnaround at the higher volume stores. If no luck finding anyone at MSRP a few of us on here do MSRP and will transport it to you.. so your just paying transport cost

It is unlikely you'll get to test drive an SX. Lots of folks have compared Ascent and Telluride - there are a zillion You Tube videos to help you make your decision. I was able to test drive an EX and an Ascent Touring. Many forum members have test driven both. We ordered SX Prestige, and we are happy. Avg 4-6 month wait on an order. You can negotiate a good deal on an Ascent. Just your preference.

I suspect they messed up my order and/or placed it in November, or gave me whatever white SX order they had placed...either way, not someone I want to buy from. Luckily, they haven’t cashed my deposit (and apparently can’t find the check) so I’ll go cancel that tomorrow and be done with them.

As jw suggested, I filtered the google sheet by AL, MS, and LA, and looked for the dealerships that received the most prestige models, which seems to be Wilson Kia in Flowood.

Coincidentally, they had a vin assigned to them on 12/15 that is almost exactly what I want. I called them today to see if it was already spoken for, but the person I talked to couldn’t pull info on it....this forum has helped me be more knowledgeable than half the sales reps out there!

Anyway, I plan to make the 1.5 hour drive tomorrow to sit down with the rep and his manager, discuss my experience at Dean McCrary, and see what is the best way to move forward (get the vin that was recently assigned to them if it’s available, or place another order for the specific one I thought I placed in August, or get on a list for the next SX-P and take what I get).

Thanks again for the help...if I hadn’t come here I’d likely be strung along for who knows how long and never received my ride!

The VIN gets assigned at the beginning. I think it takes about a week to build one.

So once the VIN is assigned, the actual build and test takes about a week, then the transport to the dealer?

Yes but like @StephenCantrelle said earlier, I think the whole post-VIN process can take a month or more before your dealer actually receives the vehicle.

If the question regarding assembly time is the actual elapsed time from assembly line start to roll out for testing, I would wager a good bourbon it takes less than two shifts (+/- 16 hours).

just test drove an EX well my wife did, the whole family went. i was told 4 months wait for SXP but after looking at the "P" i don't need that
just SX. but 1k over list price
we were considering pilot, telluride, ascent and highlander.
drove them all (reviewed a honest review of the 2020 HL too small for my family and too little head room in middle seat.

pilot is aged has really not competitive except for "reliability " history (don't get the 9 sp trans we looked ONLY at the ex-l) nothing special really

telluride--very nice but my wife who did the test drive felt it was ponderous and wallowy and immediately felt uncomfortable parking it and backing up in the tight dealer lot.

I know this is a telluride forum but she really loved the slightly smaller ascent she said it was as smooth as quiet as telluride, felt more surefooted
she liked the features of the telluride but she didn't want the telluride and bought the ascent blue w brown leather interior it fit my whole family fine, granted the leg room was slightly less but she just felt more comfortable driving the ascent. plenty of power on the hi way doing 85 before she realized holy smokes i better slow down.

nice that kia dealer silent require a deposit since if we change our minds it will sell quickly.

so long story short got an ascent touring blue w brown leather interior at invoice and .9% financing

also the ascent has a digital rear view mirror if rear window blocked
AND NO AUTO START STOP---YO BABY

The steering on the Ascent was way too over boosted for me (probably why your wife may have liked it?).

i can't tell i didn't drive it at all
our wedding vows include she picks out HER car she is very practical and family it will be her main driver i drive jeep wrangler 5sp which i taught her to drive but she wanted her own sooooo....

You'll enjoy the Ascent. It's a fine vehicle. I think they've ironed out most of the transmission issues. We liked the way it drove also - was our second choice. Definitely can get a discount too. Save driving, and don't forget to join the Ascent forum.
