Order to delivery time

If we check the VIN Lookup tool and do not see a VIN of a car that I know exists what does that mean? I checked the VIN for the Telluride I test drove and it was not listed.

Is there a reason it would be missing?

yes, not even built yet. this is 6-10-20 And I ordered it 1-14-20....

Same here. I ordered 1/15/20 - and not assigned an allocation for production. Dealer confirmed today KIA is not releasing Telluride Allocations this month...so maybe next month. Then you add 30 - 60 days from that point to delivery. You will need to know where you are in line at your dealership. I am in the queue for the next round of allocations as soon as KIA releases them...if you aren't then you will have multiple months after that.

Slowly getting disallusioned with Kia, dealerships, everything. Lucky i didnt put down any down payment. So, when it shows up, it shows up. At this point, i dont care. Maybe xmas, i'll get a 2020, not a 2021. Sucks

For whatever reason the tool may not pick up all VINs.

There was a period of time the tool just broke I believe, so it may have happened during that time, it’s hard to say though. For the past week or so, the tool seems to be updating as intended. That isn’t the first VIN that was created but not found on the tool, a few others have had the same thing happen.

If I remember correctly, I think there was a post a few days ago saying that 2020 production would end this Friday. Is there any truth to this? I checked with my dealership once again this morning, and the order they have allocated to them is still active with a 7/1 ETA. I would like to think that all 2021 conversions would've occurred by now and that if mine hasn't been cancelled that it should get a VIN by Friday, however I think it's fair to expect the unexpected from Kia! Just keeping fingers crossed at this point.

I doubt they have started 2021 production without any announcements. You won't see those before the fall.

Many have mentioned that they've gotten phone calls from their dealers with ETAs for their 2021 MY that were changed from 2020s for July/Aug/Sept. I could see if people are just now placing their order for a 2021 that they'd have an ETA of fall. I hope that's the case anyway!

So your thought is that 2020 production will occur past this Friday until potentially the plant closure at the beginning of July?

That is my guess, there isn't a planned shutdown for the next couple of weeks. I posted two screenshots from the KMMG app for employees that someone on the KMMG employee FB page stating that they would be running 2 shifts again next week and at least two for the week of the 22nd, with the potential of bringing in a 3rd shift. Of course, all of this is subject to access to parts from Mexico and any other COVID setbacks.

It was really nice of Stephen to take the time to look up my order and reach out to me. It's unclear if everything is okay with the order. My almost noncommuncative dealer may have screwed me or it may just be some accounting maneuvers. I'm in the process of clearing it up. Once I get the car, whenever that may be, I'll post my buying experience which sadly mirrors a lot of people's experiences. Thankfully there are a lot of good dealers and there's always someone good to give your business. We'll see where my dealer ends up.

Ordered SXP (custom order through the Costco Auto Program, not an allocated vehicle) on October 15th (that date is not a typo!!) and was prepared for the estimated 3-6 month wait... but still no car, no VIN, no ETA, no info. My salesperson emailed yesterday out of the blue a vague message (keeping with the theme of the past 8 months of vagueness) that "the factory has opened production and the dealership is getting more orders filled and will email car info soon". Last month I was told I was #9 on my dealership's waitlist of Tellurides ordered. I have been watching the website and last week 5 Tellys were manufactured for my dealership (IL072), after months of zero. What are the chances my Telly will be built? What are the chances my order will be cancelled? @StephenCantrelle @Jason Fox I think waiting since OCTOBER is wearing on me, and with so much talk of what will happen with the backlog of 2020/2021 switch over, I am feeling defeated & powerless over here. I am so worried I will end up screwed with no car after all this time.

Are you positive they placed an order for you?

I went into the dealership in late winter to get some answers (because phone calls/emails were not being returned) and he pulled my file out and showed me some paperwork that looked legit. (Different/additional paperwork than just the deal we signed on October 15) He claimed I have an "order number" etc., but he says no VIN yet. He says they placed my order into the system on October 17th.

If reading this correctly you are number 9 to be put into KFOS.. So depending on how many your dealer gets as allocation will determine how many months you have left. If they are averaging for example 5 a month then you are 2 months away for order to be accepted by Kia and then an additional 2 months give or take where you are in the country to build and ship.

this is if we are putting orders in this month which looks unlikely now that I can see dealers don’t have allocation to enter any orders into KFOS.

So will your order get canceled? I would say that your place in line is still there if you have an order officially in at your store.

When your order gets moved into KFOS it will be a 2021.. I would say your at least 4 months out based on what you have mentioned.

I would check in with your consultant and email back has my order been placed into KFOS? Or am I number 9 waiting to do so?

that should give more clarity to wait time remaining.

Also ask sales consultant how many SX AWD models they averaged being assigned/allocated each month before Covid.

also will help get an idea of time.

this all of course(timing) is taking into consideration no more delays and doesn’t include any time “retooling” at the factory on switching 2020’s to 2021’s.

Maybe I don't understand what KFOS is?? Isn't that the Kia ordering system? And are you thinking my order was NOT placed into the system on October 17th?

In the search bar type in “latest information on KFOS” I go into great detail how it works.

but in short there is two ordering systems.

Kdealer- which basically puts you in a queue. You are given a request ID and order number.
Kia May fill a order in Kdealer but it is pretty rare.

KFOS-(Kia Forward Ordering System) when you are done waiting in the queue and are number 1 in line your order gets reentered and accepted by Kia and you are then given an Internal Number with an ETA... the Internal Number will convert to your Vin number when Telluride is built at factory

I am a first time SUV buyer as with COVID we are moving and need a 3 row SUV (two car chairs). Had planned to get a Highlander and then did research and learned about this excellent Telluride. Like the moss green with a dark grey interior (although brown can work as well). Called a bunch of dealers and couldn't seem to find the car. One suggested I special order it, and can get it in 2 months. Is this true, and would this be the 2021 model? I was thinking SXP in Dark Moss and either grey/brown interior + AWD.

It does not sound like I can get this car when I need it (now). But what should a wait be from here, as we are re-opening? Appreciate the advice. There is a great wealth of information on this board, which I appreciate.
