• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I am going to apologize in advance if these are silly questions. (The Telluride is the first "new" vehicle I have purchased in a very long time). My Telluride has about 4,700 miles. I just received an e-mail from my salesperson stating that it has been 6 months from my purchase and I should have the car returned for a service check. (The diagnostics on my app state that the car is fine and I haven't had a single issue). I can afford the charges, but I feel that this is a waste of money. Thoughts? Also, I have friends that have a local family owned garage and I plan to use them for oil changes and non warranty work. (I like to support local businesses!) Does this impact the warranty in any way? I just feel like the dealership take every opportunity to get you there to spend more money. I also got a letter to extend my service warranty. If the Kia is very reliable, why would I event consider this? Thanks again for any advice!!!!

You already know the answer to your question. That is the standard, "it been 6 month come get an oil change" call. I always get one from my dealership for my other cars. I just say no and keep it moving. You can get your car serviced wherever you want and it will have no impact on the warranty. I mean unless you have engine trouble later and they find an egregious violation like no oil in the engine :). When the service due light shows up owners the screen, the reset procedure are in the owners manual. Extended warranty is a personal question "You don't need it until you need it". I got one of those extended warranty offers on an old Dodge minivan I used to own, $3,500 for 100K warranty. Yeah, thanks but no thanks.

If using local garage for oil changes, keep the receipts. Could come in useful later if there are any issues/questions about how well you maintained the vehicle.

I believe Kia has a 7500 mile interview schedule. So 7500, 15,000 etc. I personally take my vehicles to the OEM for these services.

Thank you so much! You verified my thoughts!

Without a doubt, car dealerships are interested in frequent maintenance.
You have books that you received when buying a car, in the service book you can find all the information regarding the frequency of maintenance.
Also, be sure that your region does not belong to difficult climatic conditions, since the service interval is reduced in such regions.

You can change the oil and filters anywhere, be sure to keep receipts. In the event of a warranty case, KIA may ask you to confirm that you did the minimum service.

Thank you! I appreciate it!

Ask if your family garage reports to Carfax or other agencies. A lot of them do. Most dealers will. While not as much proof as direct receipts, you can print off your maintenance from carfax if you lose anything.

I sold a care that I had for 15 years, lost all the maintenance records in a flood. I used a local shop that reported and printed out all the maintenance in the last 15 years from them.
