Hi. My name is Jen and I'm a Telluride-owner-in-wait-aholic. (You guys now say, "Hi Jen.")

I've been liking and posting on a few threads for a few months now, but I actually do like seeing people's stories when they do their introductions so I thought I'd actually do that, too.

I drive a 2007 Civic EX. I bought it outright (in 2010 or '11?) with the cash I had from privately selling my loaded 2005 Toyota Sienna. My kids were older and I could finally ditch the minivan, and the fact it was due for the timing belt and other expensive maintenance was incentive enough to make the change. Since then, I've been putting everyone first. Roxy -- the Civic -- is still going strong at 155k and she'll become my 17yr old daughter's soon. It's finally time for me to have a new car again.

I've been looking. I've been researching. For a long time. I wanted something for me. A little luxury. But also something big enough for my garden hauls when I visit Home Depot and Lowes, as well as having enough seating to tote my family and extended family (when they visit) to the beach. So, the Telluride is perfect. I can say that because I research the shit out of things and I was set on the Explorer (I loved the looks) until I was set on the Subaru Ascent (I loved the safety and the way it drove) and then the Telluride came out and I've never needed to look back.

I finally put the deposit down on her in March. Debt was being paid down, my recent wedding was paid off, and everything except for Covid was looking good. But hey, I found you good people and more information than I ever could have imagined. And now I wait. She'll (now) be a '21 SX-P/T in Black Copper w/Dune interior and she will be magnificent!

I appreciate all the time and effort everyone puts into this forum. Lots of good people and info and it makes passing the months waiting much more enjoyable. :)

Hi Jen! I am a new member just signed up literally a few minutes ago too!
If you've been lurking for awhile, you'll already know of the loads of great info on this site. If you not, you're about to realize how invaluable this site and its members are. I can't think of a question that hasn't been asked and answered already. Lots of helpful people on this site!

Great to hear the backstory, Jen. And I agree, the forum has been so valuable with information and to pass the time as we wait.

What dealer did you buy from?

Awaiting 2021 Dark Moss/Dune SXP-T...

I put the deposit down with Route 6 Auto Mall in Swansea, MA. They are selling at MSRP and have been pretty wonderful to work with so far.

Excellent to hear. We have our deposit at Lev Kia in Framingham also at MSRP. Best of luck!

Nice! They were one of the dealers I spoke with but they didn't have any unclaimed incoming allocations at the time. Swansea did so that's how I ended up with them. Hopefully we both get our Tellys quickly and drama free. :)

Hi Jen, I have actually seen a few of your comments on other posts. I have a 3 row SUV now and between 2 kids, 2 big dogs (great pyrenees and Saint bernard), friends, and just able to haul stuff I did not want to go any smaller. I will admit that the 3rd row gets used more for stuff than people in my current car. Have fair coming up and the bags of pine shavings for the horse are ready to go in. I can't wait. My kids think I am funny when I get excited spotting a Telluride when out driving.

I hear ya! I don't need the 3 rows, but I want them. I hate having to take 2 cars when my mom and sister are in from out of town. I hate not being able to take both my kids' friends with us. Sure, that stuff is few and far between, but I want the options. And family road trips with the 2 kids and the dog (previously 2, and probably once again), it's just way more comfortable to have this large of a vehicle.

But, my kids are 16 (in Aug) and 17 and I know life will be changing some in the next few years. So I opted to lease (my first ever).... I'm thinking the new Sorento (the mini Telly) will probably be just right for my family and I in about 3 years. 🤞

Anyway, I am sooo excited for the Telluride. And my family is too...so I stop talking about it. Ha!

I'm glad you're enjoying your so much!!

Welcome. If you can avoid leasing, I would. Kia's money factors are terrible for the SX-P - we've seen lease payments nearly as high as purchase loan payments. In any event, you can make the decision later depending on available rebates. But, if you do decide to lease, be sure you're okay paying that hefty rent charge (I calculated many SX leases and rent charge was above $5000 for 3 years - ouch). Of course Kia could have lowered the money factor by now, but I doubt it. Anyway, just food for thought.

My wife always wants to waive at other Telluride owners on the highway lol

I did a lot of research on the leasing and money factors and I'm ashamed to admit I don't understand it all. The lease payments are definitely higher than anything else I've seen before, but still lower than the financed payment I'd have. I'm still open to financing once it comes in. I think I'm getting a decent deal with the lease, all things considered. I shopped around at a lot of dealers and this was the first one that had calculated the lease payment to a point where I didn't feel like telling them to go...well, you know. ;)

Anyway, I have these figures in my notes if you care to take a cursory glance and let me know if anything seems outrageous to you...

665/mo
60% risidual
36/12
.00180 (money factor?)

It's impossible to compare a lease deal without a few more details - but if it is a zero down lease payment then it would appear to be a decent deal for an SX-P. The money factor has come down a bit since last year.

If you care for details, I made a long write-up back in November and you can put your numbers in to see where everything comes out. As you said, better to be prepared with knowledge before delivery.

Jen,

We picked up our Telluride.Black Copper with Dune Brown interior couple of weeks ago. This will be my wife’s primary car and she retired her 16 year old FX 35 to my son who will be a high school senior soon.

With covid since everyone is home we are not driving much, however every chance I get I drive it to run errands, grocery etc. In 3 weeks 450 miles.

My wife is absolutely stunned by the car and she cannot believe it is a KIA. Friends and family constantly keep saying wow you guys are rich buying fancy cars. She keeps defending and saying it is just a Kia as she wants to portray modesty.

Now we did look at the European choices of Audi and Mercedes and it would run us 60-70k for 4 cyl turbo version. So decided against that. Then looked at the Japanese suv Cx9, Pilot and Highlander and none of them had the look and appeal as the Telluride.

Now with all the demand getting one was impossible so I placed an order in December 2019 and finally got it in June.

Had to pay MSRP which was tough to accept as I never pay 1000-1500 over invoice. However 1000 rebate helped from KIA to keep it under MSRP.

Jen you will absolutely love the car. It will be stunning and all the wait will be in the past and every time you get in the car you will be so happy that you waited.

Beautiful Telluride. Funny - my wife is also looking forward to a car that she can say "it is just a KIA" as she doesn't like to drive flashy or new vehicles - especially in times like these where so many people are struggling. She would have gotten a base trim Telluride - or kept her 2011 Honda Odyssey a little longer - but I wanted all the bells and whistles that the SX-P comes with. But she can at least tell people it is "just a KIA" which makes her happy. A happy wife is a happy life!

Noticed you are in Texas! Where did you buy yours from? We are in San Antonio - but are buying from @StephenCantrelle up in Carrollton. Ordered in January and hopefully will take delivery late summer.

Thanks for sharing! I can't say I don't disagree with wanting to be modest, especially in these times. But I also deserve this and I cannot wait! I keep hearing how much everyone is stunned and in love with their Telluride and I know I'm going to feel that too...just a few more weeks/months...

Oh, and great choice on the colors of your Telluride! She's beautiful!
