• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Security Alarm wont stop going off!

I am having the same exact issue

Did you follow my instructions to disable ROA function? If so, if it is still happening, then bring the car in for service.

In the screen behind the steering wheel:

User Settings --> Convenience --> Rear Occupant Alert

The issue is with the rear seat child detection sensors. Any movement, even air from an open window will set it off. I shut mine off

I recently purchased a 2020 Gravity Gray Telluride and I absolutely love it! The only issue I have is if I leave the sunroof open or windows cracked to keep it cool the car alarm goes off consistently. Does anyone know if this is something that can be changed or disabled?

I’m having the same problem!

Just experienced the same thing. Thanks for posting this!

Same thing is happening to me!!! I have been cracking my windows but I had not made the connection to the 2
This happened to me today!!! I never associated it with me leaving the windows cracked! However, some days when I leave them cracked, the alarm doesn't go off.

Similar alarm situation with my new Telluride except I thought I had already turned off the rear occupancy alarm. Guess not. The dash message is confusing since it says "check rear seat" and "alarm off" but it must not mean the ROA is off. I was in a parking lot away from home and called the dealer service department to ask for help since I had to go to an appointment. The service person had no suggestions other than to lock the vehicle using the door lock rather than the key fob. He said the alarm is not activated without locking with the key fob. He was quick to make an appointment for warranty service though.

When I got home I found this helpful video from KIA on how the ROA works:

I don't see why bit would do that. If you leave the windows or sunroof open, try locking it with the fob instead of the door handle button. I believe if you use the fob, it doeswn't arm the alarm. I would also take it in and at least get it documented, maybe a software fix later, or could just be an adjustment the dealer can do.
I have a 2020, does the same alarm thing. Absolutely infuriating. I live in AZ - I don’t want ALL the hot air to be trapped in the car. I lock the car with the FOB, walk away, alarm starts going off, I can shut the alarm up momentarily with the FOB - but it’ll start blaring again in 30-60 seconds. Absolutely unacceptable. Any ideas? there are no security settings available for me to reset in the car menu.

The cause is the Rear Occupant Alert feature of the car. It should be turned off if you plan to regularly leave your windows cracked when parking. Instructions to do this in your instrument cluster are in post #47 right above yours.

If you want to bypass the ROA just once:
  1. Open and close one of the rear doors before starting the car or while the car is running.
  2. After turning the car off, press the OK button on the steering wheel when the instrument cluster shows a warning message to check the rear seats. This should bypass the ROA from alarming until the next time you start the car.

I have the exact opposite. I always forget my sunroof open and it doesn’t even alert me through the app like it does when I leave the doors unlocked or someone is in my backseat. I recently had someone shatter my window and it didn’t even go off. Smh

Same thing has happened to me and both times my windows were left open about an inch, too. I got a message on my phone both times that said motion detected inside vehicle. I called Kia service and they said there should be a way for me to turn the motion sensor off, but that does not seem like a fix as there is no motion happening inside the vehicle.

If your windows are open, there is airflow, there will be motion, and it will be detected. If you desire to leave your car locked with the windows open, you need to either acknowledge the alert in your instrument cluster each time you turn your car off, or turn off the rear occupant alert entirely.

My son often prefers to stay in car with window open when we go grocery shopping. After hearing alarm as we walked away, I gave my son our car key to hold on to thinking the alarm won't sound if key is detected inside. However, he called me and said the alarm is still sounding.

Thanks to you, I went in to the user settings and disabled both the rear occupancy alarm as well as the double click to unlock passenger doors. Much obliged!
How do you disable ?

How do you disable ?
That only happens to me when I lock the car when someone is inside, otherwise it won’t go off. If anything I wish I knew how to enable the alarm to sound every time I got hit while parked. Smh

From Page 4-22 of the user manual:

You can activate or deactive the ROA from the User Settings mode in the cluster LCD display. (this is the one behind the steering wheel). The option can be found under the following menu:

User Settings --> Convenience --> Rear Occupant Alert
Easily disabled using the above setting

Mine did the same thing when I got it.

The alarm kept going off when I left and locked the vehicle. Well it turned out that the Telluride has a sensor in the back that alerts you if you leave someone ( kids left in the vehicle) and walk away.

The dogs were setting it off. I had no idea because the salesman didn’t mention it. It can be disabled.
How?
