  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... That's very reasonable. Most doc fees aren't negotiable. But dealer fees perhaps. The Canadians may be able to help you out too.

I never paid, I always negotiated.

tell them that it does not matter to you how much they will show for this fi, the most important thing is that the total does not change.

We just picked up ours yesterday and our fees were $199. Another dealer we were talking to was $699 which I feel is way overpriced.

Try $798 doc fee! Absurd.

At least in the US, tax, title fees, and registration fees are fixed by state government and are paid directly from the dealer to the government (as a convenience) and are non-negotiable. But any other fees are arbitrary and definitely negotiable.

If you’ve agreed to a fixed out-the-door price (as you should), then it doesn’t matter how the dealer had divvied things up. But if you’ve agreed to pay MSRP, then you’ve got to either bite your tongue and pay whatever they say, or do another negotiation (and be prepared to walk).

Dealers love situations where customers put down deposits with vague agreed pricing like MSRP, $X over invoice, or where the trade hasn’t been valued as it puts them in the drivers seat when the car comes in as the customer is vested in completing the deal and they can charge whatever they think they can get away with.

My dealer

For those who are considering going out of state, here are the average doc fees: Average Doc Fees by State

good info. This article was a little dated so I did some more homework and found more update information that was relatively the same

so, I’m picking up in a few weeks. Vehicle is at msrp, the dealer has been pretty Good, but the doc fee is fairly high. I’m not going to walk away from this over a few hundred, but it does irk me.

ive thought about asking if they’d lower the cost of the car to match the ‘average doc fee’ price of the state, info retrieved by the source above and updated ones. This would save ~$300. Not necessarily ‘below’ msrp, but still. I’ve also thought about asking for them to throw in some floor mats or something that equates to monetary value on my end. Doubt it will work but that’s the game plan

Good luck @disweds12! I like your plan. It doesn’t cost them anything plus they get an awesome dealer review from you. Man, I’m excited for you. It’s so close! 🤤🤤🤤
