Order to delivery time

I finally got my quote in writing, no markup from MSRP and only a $115 document fee. The sales manager did say they are now charging $5k over MSRP but they would honor my deal since I made it back on July 17th. So... now it's just wait this week for it to be delivered to the dealership. After reading everyone else waiting up to a year for their orders, I feel incredibly lucky to only have to wait about 7 weeks.

My timeline:

3/5/20 - Specs sent to my dealer in PA.
3/12/20 - Learned that my vehicle had been allocated to the dealership
6/23/20 - Learned it had been switched to 2021 with a 8/21/20 ETA
7/30/20 - VIN created in failcat
8/18/20 - Vehicle arrived at dealership (Moss/Dune SX-P with Tow)
8/21/20 - Drove to PA to take delivery

While we were waiting to get the paperwork finalized, one of the sales people in the showroom told me that they had 17 inquiries regarding its availability since it hit the lot on Tuesday.
May I ask which dealer and salesperson in PA you used and how the experience was? Thanks!!

Good luck on the longest week of your life! :p What kind of deals did you get for August?

There was a $500 rebate that I'm missing out on because I somehow qualified for a super super low APR through my credit union, so I'm saving about $2k in interest over the life of the loan.

Now it's just do I do the crossbars from Kia, at $789 from the parts department at the dealership or just go to REI and get some nice Thule or Yakama ones?

$789 seems a bit steep for cross bars from Kia, no? I’ve heard that others have got dealers to throw them in for free, and it’s just $300 if you had them added during order (which I know you didn’t, but just for reference).

I know, right?!?! I tried to get them to add them for free, but it was a no go. The rest of my deal is on the money, so I'll just buy Thule version and save myself and get some that are a little more low profile. The Kia ones stick up a little more than I'd like.

@StephenCantrelle Good morning! Can I get an update on delivery date for VIN 5XYP3DHCXMG111103 please? Thank you!

I tried searching, but I'm not finding recent info related my question, so I'll ask it here and hope it's okay. I'm calling around searching for our "perfect telly" and, naturally, dealers that don't have it would love to order one for me. Interestingly, I'm getting different estimates on delivery. A month ago, folks were saying 6-8 months from order to delivery. Now I'm being told 4-6 weeks, or 3 months (those are the estimates I got from two different dealers today). Does that seem realistic? Are some dealers able to get custom orders in faster than others? Or are they just trying to make me feel good about placing an order with them? Deposits are low and refundable, so it's not like they're trying to trap me. What do you think?

4-6 weeks seems reallllly fast, unless its a non SX Prestige. Which trim are you looking at, as that I think makes a difference.

Looking for Silver on Black SX Prestige (no Nightfall, fine with Tow, but don't need the shocks). So you think 3 months sounds reasonable? I'd bite if that's the case, though it looks like "the website" has VINs all the way through November, so that part is confusing.

Silver seems to be a tough color to find. If only I were interested in black, I could have ended my search after a day or two!

Sounds bullish.

Let's say you go into the Sept allocation which is in 3 weeks.
Add at least 3 months from when your order is accepted to delivered.

I'd say around 4 months IF you get into the September allocation for an SX-P. Just thoughts.

It's a crapshoot, depends on your dealer's allocations, higher volume dealerships get more orders. SX-P Nightfall editions are 4-6 months, that's what myself and several others have been told. I think 3 month is a lot more realistic than a 4-6 week timeline unless you get lucky. I was given a delivery timeframe of December if my order gets allocated for the next KFOS order (Mid Sept).

And I feel you on the color combo. Hell, I have passed up Moss Green/Dune and Black/Dune combos because I want the silver. According to failcat, there are only 6 vins listed for the combo I want.

@Smitty311 - have you tried filtering your combo on failcat and just calling/emailing the dealerships in your state or neighboring states to see if the car is 1) at MSRP and 2) unsold? Most dealer websites have that automated chat pop-up and they ask me what I'm looking for, then take my contact info and usually get back to me shortly. A quick phone call will confirm whether the vehicle is still available. I also used this forum as a resource to confirm which dealerships are selling at sticker or at a mark-up.

Use this as your starting point:

NOTE: I may be the exception and I know that I got VERY lucky, but it worked for me. I scoured failcat for my color/trim combo, found it unsold and at MSRP, and then it was mine for the taking.
Also, I had to give up on the Nightfall. If NF was going to make it harder for me to find my combo, I was ready to let it go. The SX still comes with the black 20" rims anyway.

Yep, been using a combination of tools - failcat (called 26 dealers in the Mid-Atlantic and NE so far), facebook (found what I wanted, but with nightfall, which I really don't like), AutoTrader, and a tracking spreadsheet I made for myself to keep track of this craziness :D

Yup, sounds like you’re doing all the right things
Are you in NE? I’ll be doubling down on my search soon; out of RI.

26!! wow. Well I'm rooting for you man. The one you want is out there at your price -- even if that means special order.

Love the spreadsheet idea... I haven't gotten to that level yet...

Yep, I'm in DC, though I've been in Maine lately, and have family in PA, so I'm just looking all over the place. There is stock out there, just not the one I want. Good luck!

I needed it. I love failcat, but the dealer codes mean nothing to me, so I exported the data to excel and made myself a google spreadsheet I can update with dealer names, some notes, and the sold/available status so I stop looking at the same vehicle I already looked at. Now I just add to the list if more options become available, which is easier than before.
