Why the price now is so much higher than MSRP?

Hi. I am located in the greater Houston area. I’ve asked several dealers for quotes on a 2021 Kia Telluride. They gave me drive out prices around 40k! That’s so much more than the MSRP price. And the invoice price is only around 31k.
Could someone explain this to me? I’ve bought a car before(Honda) and I got it for below invoice price.

A few things here:
1) you may be slightly misinformed. The base LX model MSRP is even above your $31k figure mentioned.
2) Depending on trim, that $40k figure you were given is on point. ~$40k +/- $7-9k (yes, a big span depending on trim level) is your target OTD price. There’s a lot of unknowns here (we don’t know what trim you’re looking at)
3) buying this vehicle below MSRP / at invoice isn’t a thing right now - simple laws of supply and demand. Wait a bit and prices will come down

If you're active duty or retired military you can get $400 off MSRP. Not a huge amount when you're spending over $40k but I'll take it!
