If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I just put down a deposit on a 2021 AWD SX Prestige Nightfall Edition, Towing, in Black Copper plus a couple of smaller things like the interior lighting. The estimated delivery date is December/January. Since 2000, I've had two BMW 3 series (a 2000 E46 323ci and my current 2007 E92 335), so I like to hold onto cars if they're worth it. Unfortunately, my wife's 2015 Subaru Forester is acting weird with the occasional electrical gremlin plus oil consumption/leaks before 50k miles. So with an almost 2-year-old daughter and our 80lb dog, we needed more space anyway. After lots of reviews and Youtube videos, we finally had the chance to go test drive a Telluride. I didn't have to convince my wife since we both really liked it.

I can't wait to pick the new Telluride up! The dealer will be placing orders in about 3 weeks, so now I get to wait, wait, wait. I'll start poking around the forums before asking a bunch of questions, but I'm happy I found this site.

A three month wait isn't bad. One thing you can do is shop around to see if a dealer gets one in like you have ordered and buy it from them. FYI - on the interior lighting...know that it doesn't sync with the ambient lighting in the SX trim. Different function, button and brightness. Many on here have looked into it and passed on it. Myself included. I opted for the illuminated sill plates rather than the front footwell only interior light kit. If your dealer hasn't placed your order yet - might be something to check out further.

Welcome to the forum.

Welcome to the forum.

We found one almost identical to what we wanted, but no Nightfall. I've got a few weeks until they order it to adjust. Thanks for the tip on the lighting. I was basing the choice on a youtube video review, but I'll definitely look into it!

Thanks! It's funny... I ordered my 2000 BMW 323 back in 1999 and had to wait about 14 weeks. I was driving a super low mileage (16k) unmarked Caprice Classic police package then. I think I'm more excited to take delivery of the Telluride. Go figure :D

Shows that I need to improve my paying attention skills. I mistook the ambient SX lighting for the interior lighting kit. I very much appreciate the tip and will get that removed from the order.

Congrats on putting down a deposit! I'll give you a heads up to be aware that Kia is leaving off certain options to apparently speed up output. Among the options being left off are the lighting options. I had both the illuminated scuff plates and interior light kit as part of my order only to find out separately, at different times, that I won't be receiving either.

Are those dealer installed options now? I understand the need to try and meet demand, but that could be a hard pill to swallow when they flat out just say, "too bad." Maybe it they said, if you really want it, here's your new date.

Maybe someone else can confirm, but I believe these options are installed at the factory. I have a hard time thinking the dealers are disassembling an already built Telluride to add $700+ in lights accessories and then re-assembling.

I was never told too bad about the lights options. As you can see from my signature, I upgraded my order several times. For each non-Prestige order, I had both the lit scuff plates and light kit included. When I upgraded to Prestige, I was shown a screen shot of Kdealer that indicated the scuff plates had been removed from the process. No explanation provided as to why, but I was at least given a heads up.

When my VIN hit Failcat, I noticed several more
options missing, including the light kit and folding cargo tray. The explanation given to me was supply chain disruption due to Covid.

I’ve seen several others post their dealer said PIO is being limited, but again, I think these light options are factory installed. Fortunately for me, these were not necessities so the silver lining is I’m purchasing a slightly less expensive Telluride.

I don't know about the footwell lighting...but I know the illuminated sill/scuff plates can be installed in either place. If you get them on your order - then they install it at the factory - which is my preference so the dealership isn't taking something apart on a brand new car to add it after delivery.

Looking at the timing of your switched order and I am assuming they assigned a vehicle that closely matched what you wanted to order. No other way the order to VIN window would be so short. Makes sense since it is a Nightfall Edition. Would also explain why your lighted scuff plates had been "removed". We ordered lighted scuff plates and they showed up correctly on our VIN.

Lots of dealers received allocations on Nightfall vehicles well before your order changed. One can only assume you received one of those allocations - and the factory build sheet didn't include all the options you had originally ordered when doing a custom order.

Still wrapping my head around your theory and trying to decide how much I want to dig. 10 days from KFOS to VIN is considered a really quick turnaround? Why would they just switch a custom order for a dealer allocation at the cost of losing money?

Faster inventory turn around and not having to deal with a customer waiting months for their vehicle. Plus the more a dealership sells in a given month increases the number they can get the next month. So if they quickly sell one they already have in-bound it benefits them the following month. Plus they can add those options at a higher price at the dealership if you absolutely must have them.
