• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 10 pages of posts and no one has stated the obvious that we will need some aftermarket suspension lift because 7 inches is not going to be very capable unlike the tv hype ads. It will be fine in the city but if you live in snow country or rural more ground clearance would be very helpful.

Completely agree. You know something, let me snap my fingers! There. Everyone now has 8 inches of ground clearance. Good enough?

a global thinker.... you read that now go measure under your suv... opps its 7.5 unless you have lower profile tires then its 6.75 to 7 inches... great mall crawler... Just not nearly as capable even in AWD as they lead on.

Still 8. I am going to take you comment as serious as you should have taken mine. Low profile tires on an off roader/ deep snow?

Going to get a wrx fin to make it go fast?

Yes. I genuinely hope no one is buying a first year crossover with no aftermarket presence to attempt any sort of off-roading or unconventional use. This car is a nice people mover that *might* get you through some tough spots.

Lord have mercy! Although the Telluride is a capable off road SUV you're sure as poop not going to take it rock crawling. It'll get you through mud, creeks and shallow rivers but if you're looking for something that is going to match a Wrangler or 4Runner TRD Pro or Off Road this isn't it.

So I was snarky yesterday, for that I am sorry. I had a day. No excuse but that is what happened. To address the OP.

So. Off roading / deep snow and ice? Deep snow and ice I have no problem driving a mini van in deep snow and ice. 6 inches is enough ground clearance and even front wheel drive with good snow tires will make you through. Before you get on your soap box, I grew up in places where 10 FEET of snow was considered a dry year. Where you would get up twice in the middle of the night, take your snow blower to your roof and clear off the 2 feet of snow that fallen in the last 6 hours so your roof would not collapse. You don't need 4wd, in snow, 4 wd is actually not going to help you much, not the older types. You need a good car, good tires, and a shovel. I drove 60 miles a day, every day, in a front wheel drive car 3 inches off the ground with studs. No problem. Yes, you would push snow over the hood, but that is what happened.

Off roading. No*. Well at least the off roading that I consider off roading. Today, anything that is unpaved with atleast 8 inches of asphalt is off road. Back in the day, off roading was going off the road. Off the road meant you would not consider what you where driving on to be a road, only a mad man would consider what you where driving on a road. For example, this is what I would consider lite off roading. It only gets worst from there.

I personally would not be taking the telluride off road, I will take it on some really bad roads, some of them in downtown portland. Some of those bad roads may look like this.

Oh the asterisks. I nearly forgot.

I wonder what the smaller brother of the Telluride can get up to?

Going to make this a separate post. You have 8 inches of ground clearance. Or 7. The problem is that you would only get maybe another inch of lift out of stock AWD and suspension. After that you would need a new transmission, new drive line, new transfer case, because all the angles would change. And you would probably need new front and back suspension, because you would not get enough travel. All of this could void your warranty.

Bottom line, if you need an good off road vechile, Jeep or 4 runner.

I live in snow country and have seen my share of plastic, rubber and fiberglass bumpers , skirts etc ripped off lower clearance vehicles if all types... I have built and still own full blown Offroad trucks...
you can achieve body clearance on vehicles like this that will raise your body clearance 2 , 4 or even 6 inches w/o doing anything to the suspension or drivetrain depending on the vehicle...
my point is Kia is marketing this in print and video as a " capable offroad suv" ...
its not .. .... they had mods @ the New York autoshow... we'll see where they go from here....
Gwen yes if you know what your doing and you go slow you"ll be fine.. but there will be idiots that saw the commericals tearing of plastic skirts and bumpers. Its not a Range Rover. even a 2" spacer lift would help after fresh snowstorms before the plows get busy!

In many places....they just don’t get winter like they did 20 years ago....
If you put some Blizzaks on this vehicle it will be relatively unstoppable....winter tires are the key to tough winter conditions, maybe even more important than AWD....
