Water in the Fuel Tank...

Help please. I went to the water wash after fueling the car with the fuel door and cap left open
It was a touchless car wash so the fuel door was not damaged. I am really worried how much water went into into the tank thru the fuel door.
My house is 5 miles from the fuel station which also has the car wash. So i had to drive back home 5 miles. My tank was full of fuel when i entered the car wash.
What will happen to the car if water goes in ? How can prevent damage ? I am cursing my self .....

do not be afraid or worry, water will not damage the car. How much water did you get? You can find out tomorrow, at night the water will settle: water is heavier than gasoline because it will settle down. The fuel tank is designed so that the bottom is tilted and the lowest point is at the fuel pump.
If the car starts and runs after an overnight stay, everything is ok.
If there are problems with the start, you just need to pump out the entire contents of the tank, purge the fuel system and refuel with new gasoline.
But as long as you don't have engine interruptions, don't worry.

In any case, if the engine starts to work intermittently, you will receive a signal on the instrument panel and a code in memory.

Oh ok. How do i pump the fuel out and purge the fuel system. Do i take it to the service center and get it done ?

if your really concerned go to Walmart and buy a bottle of Heet.

The e10 fuel we use will gradually absorb the excess water over time. It’s possible that enough water got into the system that you’re going to cause long-term damage to the fuel pump or injectors but the fact the car is running fine now is a good sign. The fuel tank can be dropped, drained, and cleaned up, but it will be a significant/expensive repair with some risk it will actually do more harm than good.

I’d probably drive on, keeping the tank above half for at least a few fillings.
