What other SUVs are you cross shopping vs. Telluride ?

I feel like this was my, and everyone else I talked to about it's reaction to the Atlas. It is 'okay'. It is a good car, good features, but absolutely nothing stands out. I actually almost got one before I drive the telluride and preferred almost everything about. If the interior of the atlas was so 'blah', I probably would have bought it.

Agreed. I mean, if it was less, I probably would have just gotten it. It's well rated and my wife has a 2018 Tiguan, so it would have been like a matched set, but driving the Telluride felt nicer...more luxurious...less utilitarian. But driving the Ascent was really nice, too.

I was considering Honda Pilot, Odyssey or Toyota Highlander Hybrid, Sienna before watching stellar Youtube reviews of Telluride. I am very happy with my Telluride.

I’m looking at Honda Passport and VW Atlas. VW has the longest Warranty and Honda the shortest. I think the Passports AWD system and ground clearance would make it better in deep snow. I know they say Telluride has torque vectoring but I have not seen enough test to decide if it is as good as Honda’s system.

CX9: probably would have bought one if I could have found a GT or Signature but they super rare in my area for some reason and I got fed up checking every couple of days.

Acadia: great price and a phenomenal dealer that I’ve done business with before. Smaller inside and out which I liked but there is something about the plastic cladding and overall styling that I just don’t love.

Pilot: great vehicle that has an outstanding motor, but the interior is cheap, it looks like a van, and literally every other car on the road is a Pilot is seems.

Atlas: just didn’t do anything for me style wise.

Telluride beat all of these once I sat inside and what I got for the $. I’d categorize the Atlas as “practical”. Nothing felt luxury and I was able to drive an SX that felt so luxurious.
The 2020 Explorer pricing is getting to a price point I don’t care to spend on a vehicle.

Ordered my Telluride SX Prestige on 4/7 and I’m excited for it to arrive. I’m hoping by mid-June. Fingers crossed.

We considered:

1. VW Atlas but reliability reports are worse than an average VW so that kept us away
2. Ford Explorer - add ons and options got too expensive by the time you get to what we wanted
3. Toyota Highlander - reliability is great but such dated and old interior and lack of modern Infotainment (Carplay, wireless charging) was a deal breaker
4. Subaru Ascent (whatever their large SUV) we didn't even test drive since it looked like bloated Forester and my wife veto'd that one
5. Honda Pilot is every second/third SUV on the road (in Alberta similar to Highlander) and we wanted something that we can recognize in the parking lot from all others
6. GMC/Chevy Acadia/Traverse were nice and discounted low but positioning for my wife (who is pretty short) was bad plus a few of mechanics steered us away from buying a new GMC/Chevy

Ended with Kia because of new platform, Kia's efforts in design and reliability, positive reports from Consumer Report and JD Power, and we liked the look of Telluride, comfortable ride, tons of room and all the options you can imagine without having to tick box and watch the total cost grow (looking at you Ford). It was easier shopping experience where we kind of made up our mind on SX (Canadian trim), went to test drive it and bought it the same day. This is compared to Ford Explorer and trying to get certain options and having to buy other options packaged with it and then it was cheaper to get into the next trim but it had massaging seats and shit you don't need.... hell no

This is highly personal opinion. Not here to argue but to show our thought process when we were looking at the three row SUVs.
Previously, we were shopping between 2019 Rav4 and Volvo XC40...so that shows that we are not sophisticated car shoppers which will probably cost us in the long run

I think if the Ascent was a bit less expensive I would have gotten it. I liked it a lot, and the wife LOVED it. But I did not want to spend the money to get the Touring trim, which is the one I wanted. With The Telluride (and no, it is NOT a TELLY) she liked it and I LOVED it, AND I lowered my lease payment by about $60/mo.

I have owned several Subarus and trust their reliability and that's why I would have gone with it, in addition to it being a really nice SUV. I am just hoping the Kia proves to be equally as reliable.

The Pilot was great, but I never even got around to actually pricing it out. I think it would have been higher, but not sure.

The Atlas was OK, but I didn't LOVE it. AND the lease deal was not as attractive as the Telluride.

There are 31 Ascents on this dealers lot. This time next year that will be the reality for the Telluride, but we are all too impatient to wait!

I’m trying to decide between the Sirento, Murano and Highlander. I don’t normally need the extra room of the Telluride, but love the look and have to admit it would be awesome when the grands are bigger and can sit in the 3rd row. Right now, I’m looking to drive clients, so I’m trying to decide between the S or Ex with the bench seat.

I am worried that the seat seems slightly higher than other crossovers (I know it’s probably the clearance) which would make it harder for my elderly parents to get in and out. Anyone under 5’7” have to step up to get in?

I looked at the Ascent and they had a ton of Touring models in the lot....the exterior and interior (lack of) color choices screwed them.

I was on my way to purchase an SEL R-Line Atlas. I had done tons of reasearch and while there were some aspects i wasnt too fond of, reliability reports, engine choice, mpgs, gas tank size/range, no ventilated seats on a near top trim model reserved for SEL premium, no real leather seats reserved for SEL premium, no 360 camera system reserved for SEL premium, the interior was boring but functional, ride was okay nothing special, technology was okay but lacking some features the Telluride has, cheap plastics EVERYWHERE were all the items that kept me from pulling the trigger earlier. I loved the look of the R-Line, maybe even more than the Telluride. So after a month or two of research, looked at all the major players in the midsize crossover market, toyota(dated), honda(good reliability but ugly imo),traverse(just oddly shaped but space was good. We have our second child and my wife is just nagging me we need an suv yadda yadda so i tell her fine, lets go get the Atlas. Just so happened there was a mazda/kia next door. I had heard great things about the cx9 so decided to stop by. Walk in and talk to one of the salesman, young kid. Explain to him what im looking for and he tells me, sir u came at the perfect time we just got this new suv called the Telluride. I say to him “Telluride”? Yes sir and proceeds to take me to the kia dealership next door. Long story short im amazed by the Telluride, all the features of the atlas and MORE! Not quite the space but close enough! Its perfect! Now to find one to test drive, this was around early march. So about a week later they get an ex in sangria(hate the color). We test drive it and man, its quiet, engine response is great, ride feels planted yet isolated, fricken sweet. My wife is iffy, just cause its a kia. So we decide lets do it. But no invintort to be found and the dealers in my area want an arm and leg for them. After looking for about a week i give up. We need the car now so we decide to get a Yukon Xl Denali or Suburban Premier. Go big or go home right. So we are sure this is the truck we are getting but cetified used with 20-30k miles or less are still going for 50k. So i look and look and finally find a smoking deal on auto trader and call to make a deal on it. 14k and change black on black suburban premier for 42k. It was mine! I call the dealership they say we have it lets do this. Low and behold i show up and its sold, im pissed of but what can you do. So back to searching. I couldnt find any yukons or suburbans for reasonable(imo) prices. So decided to take a second gander at the Telluride. So i go to my local dealer. They have an EX in sangria(hate the color) and just so happen to have a used suburban premier in the lot so i ask them to put them side by side and Wow, i could not believe hot dated and cheap the suburban felt next to the Telluride. Neither could my wife, the suburban felt 10 years dated(it kinda is) and just didn't feel premium compared to the Telluride. It was then that i decided to find a Telluride for us. Yesterday i put my deposit down on an incoming SX non Prestige. Should have it in my garage on Saturday God willing.

Coming from an outback owner for 6 years I was excited for the ascent. I originally wanted that crossover and probably would have bought it when it came out, but we weren’t in the market then. When telluride came out it peaked my interest. Our list is simple cuz we knew what our needs/wants were and quickly narrowed it down. All around, the telluride fit our budget and lifestyle best. Ascent was very nice, but telluride was a bit wider (to accommodate my husband more comfortable) and the pick up was better (these are all my own opinions) love the screen placement and how the center console was stacked. Solid doors and love the “air diffuser “ option so it’s not just blowing straight on you. We are a first time Kia owner so it’s all new to us and felt a little guilty breaking my loyalty with Subaru, but overall, we feel we got a great car at a better price and the warranty can’t be beat.

Ford Explorer - Really like it, but would not give me what I wanted on trade in
GMC Acadia Denali - Thought we liked it till we drove it. There was just something I didnt like
Kia Telluride - Happened to stop at Kia dealer and they had 2 on the lot. Test drove it the next day, after driving the GMC, then worked on a sales and trade deal. Liked it as much as Explorer, felt ride was the nicest of all

At first we were not even looking. Our Acadia has 130,000 miles on it and we came to the sell it know point, or drive till it’s dead. Nice not having car payments. However we decided on sell it now. Looked at the Acadia, but as we are trading ours in we don’t really want another one. I drive an Explorer everyday for work, so I don’t want one of those. We did look at the Volvo XC90 as that was originally on the short list buttttt.... the price was going much higher then we wanted. Saw the Telluride after google searching 3 row SUV’s and immediately fell in love with it. Researched Kia reliability, features, and test drove (just the base LX as no other models were in stock) and it checked every box on our list.
