If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Rear AC question

Yes exactly. I have a dealer appt this Friday so will see what they say but won’t take it if they tell me corporate has not figured out a solution yet. Buts annoying so I hope they have a workaround
These are the little things that worry me about this purchase. I hope things like this get sorted instead of remaining 'features'. Obviously one trim shouldn't 'auto on' and the other 'auto off'. I hope KIA plans to have a software fix for this issue. I would love to hear if anyone's climate in an EX/SX is actually working as it seems it should. ie... saving 'sync' from previous trip.

It would be smart that the car would use the rear occupancy sensor and turn the back climate off when no one is sitting there. I'll do some tests this evening.

I would love a simple rear HVAC system that you can 1) turn on/off from the front; 2) set the temp of the rear from the front; and 3) allow the rear passengers to set their own temperature. Allowing the rear passengers to turn on/off the rear HVAC system would be nice too.

I asked this earlier but never got a straight answer, Can it or not do all the things you describe? Its not too much to ask, but I won’t buy it unless it works completely independently from the front controls as well as in conjunction...
I want to know if you can set the front to say 74 and the rear to say 69 and both will maintain.

Some systems when you mess with the back it automatically messes with the front, and vice versa, if it does this I’m not too excited about it ...

We need an owner to test/explain this :(

Ask and you shall receive.

Yes you can turn it on and off from the front, using a button that says "rear" and it brings up controls on the head unit. You can also see in this picture you can set a different temp for each zone, driver, passenger, and rear. If you would like there is a "sync" button that locks them all to the same temp, but you can toggle that off.

When you press that button it brings up rear climate controls on the heat unit as shown below.

The passengers in the middle row also have control over this system.

Does your system stay synced, or in it's previous state after turning off and on? I will love with them a synced and it sounds like some people's systems desync.

I have had the rear controls off, and when I start my vehicle they stay off. I just went and tested by turning the rear AC on then turned off the car. I walked away and waited until it turned off the lights. I came back, started the car, and the rear AC was still on at the temperature I had set it at. I have read the same posts from others saying it was not saving their settings, I do not seem to have that issue. I will test it again tomorrow when I will be away from the vehicle for a while to see if it saves my settings.

Thanks. Really appreciate the testing!

As @Mr White depicted above, you have two separate zones (at least on the EX). The challenge I have and it seems others too, is that the only way to sync is NOT by just pressing the sync button but rather pressing rear, going to the screen and hitting ‘lock controls’ and ‘auto’ and then front and back zones are synced. But once car is turned of, my resets to the rear zone always off, so i have to go through these steps every time. This is what the dealer said has been coming up a lot, so it seems some of us have a defect. Hope Kia will have a simple fix for it as its quite irritating to have to do this everytime to have the car on one synced temperature.

This is why I wish more cars would switch to regular software updates. You know there are early adopters who will have bugs that go unnoticed or under reported that will or have already been fixed in the manufacturing process. Yet this stuff doesn't trickl down to existing vehicles unless someone complains. At least Volvo now does a software update/check every time your car is in.

And one other glaring defect, is with no 4G/ internal SIM card connectivity to the vehicle, over the air updates, which are the way of the future will not be possible with this car, unless I'm missing something....

I believe Telluride has 4G (or 3G) connection because to remote start etc. with in UVO smartphone app it need that kind of connectivity.

Rear ventilation turned back ON yesterday. I had one of my kids in there. Maybe the car is using the rear occupancy sensor to only turn the rear ventilation ON if there is actually someone there. That would be clever and awesome in my opinion. I'll do more tests in the next days.

I believe that connectivity is exclusive to the UVO app only and cannot interchange with other sites or data, that's why you don't see an integral hotspot in the vehicle Etc.... again I could be wrong if somebody knows more than I do...

you are right, I meant connectivity available for KIA to check software updates or send notifications. In fact my Jeep Cherokee had OTA update via 3g connection, so I am sure KIA also doing something like this.

Update to my test. I turned on rear controls and synced to my front controls this morning and left them on when I turned off the vehicle at work. When I went out to lunch a few hours later the rear controls were turned off after I started the vehicle. So it doesn't appear that the controls stay on/off based on how they were last on. I will try to get somebody else to help me test if having a person in the rear changes anything.

I need to do more tests, but for now, it seems the rear ventilation will turn back ON if:
- it was ON when turning off the car AND
- someone is sitting on the rear bench (didn't try with 3rd row).

But if you have no one sitting in the back, they will not turn back ON even if they were ON the last time and since they are now OFF, they will stay OFF the next time no matter if someone is sitting in the back.

That’s really clever and makes a ton of sense. These cars have 2 separate A/C units and there’s really no need for the additional power draw if no one is back there. I will have to test this and see if it works the same on mine.

I have the same problem, LX, Northern VA, Chantilly Kia, purchased two weeks ago. The rear AC keeps turning on. Dealer has no idea what the problem is.
