• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I just purchased a 2021 Telluride EX with the tow package. There is a 4 pin electric pin power harness in the glove compartment. I am planning on getting a trailer that will have a brakes. I am not familiar with trailer brakes and wiring need with the car. My towing previously has been trailers without brakes. There is a 7 pin receptacle on the car, so I had assumed one the pins was wired for the trailer brakes, So not sure what I need to do with this 4 pin electric pin harness and if requires additional wiring to have functioning trailer brakes. Appreciate any help on this issue. thanks, BRD

In most cases there is a four pin socket up under the dash, and you splice the provided pigtail onto your electric brake controller and plug it in under the dash. That allows the controller to connect to the circuits for the 7 pin plug at the hitch.

The controller only needs four pins because it just needs power, ground, connection to the brake pedal switch, and a signal line to the trailer brakes.
