If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... I just took delivery of my new Telly, I didn’t opt to do a trade in, and now I need to sell my 2009 Traverse. Where have others selling older vehicles found the best and easiest selling experiences for the highest $$$? Dealer sales for my used car, with more mileage, are in the $8000-$10,000 range. There seems to be a lot of new online selling options, but I haven’t sold a car in 30 years! We lived overseas with company cars for 20 years, so this Traverse was my first car purchase since the 80’s! And the Telly now my second! 🥰

I got quotes from my kia dealer, a used car dealer and carmax in the same day. Sold it to the place that ended up quoting the most, which was the used car dealer.

Be prepared with a trade in value estimate printout from KBB and Edmunds.

Also be prepared to walk out to get all the remaining quotes (ie. dont settle with your first offer unless it is well above estimated value). Be courteous and respectful about it by saying you appreciate their time and need to perform your due diligence to make the best informed decision. Don’t let them pressure to to make a deal in the moment. I walked out on the used dealer as my second visit to go to Carmax last. Since I didn’t burn any bridges, I went back the used dealer (highest offer) and was still able to make the deal only an hour later.

Carmax and Carvana are two popular choices. Sell Us Your Car | Give Me The VIN | John Clay Wolfe seems to be a new comer I've recently come across. Selling private party on Facebook, Craigslist, Offerup, or Ebay may get you the most money but also comes with it's own headaches.

Carvana bought our Subaru for $2094 more than the dealer we bought it from would have given us. Carvana took it to Kansas City cleaned the carpets and detailed the interior. I found it for sale on Carvana for 3000 more than they paid us. It was a in great shape with Michelin tires and a newer AGM battery. I have second thought about if I should have sold it.

Have you looked at Auto Trader? You can see what your current car is selling for and maybe, if you price it competitively, someone nearby will want to buy it. Unless you don't want a private sale.

In end, it was best for me to sell mine to the dealer. I sold it for about $1000 less than it's worth but knocked $13,500 off the Telly, which also saved me the sales tax on that $13,500, which where I live comes to $1755.

Here in Michigan we have to pay the full sales tax before any trade in deductions are taken, unfortunately.

Ah, I see. I've generally done trade-ins with my cars, as the money "lost" to the dealer is made up in tax savings. Keeps my life simple. But I now know it's more complicated elsewhere.

hi @JGBJanet , congrats on the Telly!
it's a bit of a minefield with the car market currently (inventories/supply chains, Covid, recession, etc), but i felt in a very similar position when we didn't trade in on ours & had to sell as well. i didn't want to deal with the revolving door of the public (for *possibly nominally more $), so i reached out to a number of local dealers of my brand (Jeep) & got a few calls back. ironically it was a group owned Ford dealer & my original selling Jeep dealer who reached out & i got a very good price & the process was quick & simple.
i think best bet is to research online (Kelley Blue Book values & local AutoTrader listings) & get an idea of fair price & how much you want/need from the Chevy & then put the feelers out.
you may also be surprised hyper-locally (ie. neighbors, friends, family) who may be interested & also ease the sale-pain.
best of luck!

KBB is nothing more than a shill for dealers. Once you give them your name, dealers will call and give you a low ball number they will buy your car for.

never input your name or details anywhere online @JGBJanet @Sportshot2 , just do your research & all contact should be out-bound & on your terms.
no matter how much blue/black books may be tainted with some degree of BS (hence also checking local/semi-local asking prices for similar vehicles at dealers & privately), they will be where any buyer starts. in a perfect world we'd get what we *think our good ol' car is worth, but the internet is our encyclopedia & supermarket today. pretending otherwise will only lead you to frustration & no-sale.

Congrats Janet! How impressed are you with the Telly? Did it meet or exceed your expectations?

Ha! Too soon to say! I drove it home in the dark and snow last night and it’s been in the garage all day! No chance to play with it yet. I’m going to love some of the features, I know, especially coming from a 12 year old vehicle. Quite the upgrade! I hope to start to get to know it tomorrow!

I have had mine for a little over 6 weeks. I still have that giddy feeling every time I look at it and drive it. I love it. I dropped it off today to have a ceramic coating put on it. Can’t wait to get her back. Please let me know after you have a chance to get acquainted with your new Telly.

I've had mine a month and I still get excited every e I get in mine. Took it to local Kia dealership yesterday for oil change. Didn't buy it from them. All the salesman wanted to see my Black Copper with Nappa Dune SXP with towing. They haven't gotten one yet, mostly LX And S's. They were loving it. Asking me all about it. Clearly they don't know much about the model. Spend an hour or two just sitting in it with a manual and learning about it. I learn something new every week. Congrats and enjoy!!

Did you drive 7500 miles in the first month??

No, a little over 4000 miles in this first month. But towed my Grady White boat down to go fishing last weekend and felt I should change it early for the first change. I did that with a generator and was blown away by how many tiny little metal particles were in the generator oil at first change in 5 hours. I was very impressed with how well the Telluride towed the boat. The self-leveling suspension worked really well. Fully loaded boat and trailer were about 4200 lbs. So $45 for an early oil change seemed worth it.

Well, I sold my old Traverse today after dropping $1200 for front struts! The best online price I got was about $3900 from Vroom. It was a word of mouth sale and I got $7500 for it. 110,000 miles on it, 12 years old, I’m satisfied and think I got lucky with the ease of it. Timing is everything!
