You can disable the smart lift gateFeatures I use the most are Apple carplay, heated/ventilated seats, and 360 backup camera.
Features that could use improvement: blindspot warning volume is too loud for me (but dont want to turn off sound completely) and smart lift gate needs to have a bypass function when you want to keep the car locked but walk around the back of the car at home.
Love your list! Have a few thoughts and questions.Warning: Lots of details and opinions coming.
For reference, mine is a 2021 SX-P.
What I like:
What could be improved:
- The blind spot camera that comes on with the turn signal. Thought it would bug me, but I’ve grown to love it.
- The HUD. When I test drove and saw it, I hated it. Figured I’d disable. Again, really like it now (but see a gripe below).
- The seats and steering wheel heat up nice and fast. In Minnesota, that’s real nice.
- A minor thing that I love – being able to fold in the side mirrors before pulling in and out of the garage.
- Smart cruise is fantastic. I’ve had this on other cars and wonder why it took so long to arrive.
- Another tiny thing – I like having one big group of presets on the radio to cycle through, rather than two or three different screens that I have to change to.
- I love the LED lights. Night visibility is really great. I also really like the daytime running lights.
- I’ve been pretty happy with the driving modes, and have been pleasantly surprised with Smart Mode.
- Likewise, the Auto mode for temperature is the best of any car I’ve had.
- My grandson loves the ambient lights. He requests a different color every time.
- The front and rear cameras for parking safety are excellent.
- The rear traffic warnings are great also.
- My number one complaint on the whole car is something that most people probably don’t care at all about. I do like the native nav, and I think the map is much better than android auto. But the one thing that bugs me as that you can’t enter a new destination address while the car is moving. I get that it’s a theoretical safety issue, but Garmin (and others) get around this by making the user say they’re a passenger. My wife and I travel a lot, and we are always adding an ad hoc waypoint while we are en route. It’s a pain to have to stop to do it.
- I’m not a fan of any of the lane-keeping technologies. I don’t want an audible warning. I also don’t want the car to pull me back into a lane if it thinks I’m drifting. I’d like a little buzz vibration on the steering, but that’s it. Unfortunately, that’s not an option. I know others really like LKA – not me.
- The remote start from the key (2021 feature) – meh. I really want a phone app, with acknowledgement. But that comes at too high a monthly price (after the trial).
- I disabled the snow/ice alert – that’s a way of life for months where I am.
- I disabled Leading Vehicle Departure alert.
- I disabled the rear occupant alert.
- While I like the HUD, the default position is too high. I sit pretty upright, and the top is cut off. Fortunately, there’s a setting to lower it, which works great. But it isn’t persistent – you have to re-do it every time you start the car. Dumb.
Yes I know. This is why I’d like to see it improved, so I can use it say when I go to the supermarket, but bypass when I am parked at home without having to go into the menus and turn it off and back on every time. You can disable the smart lift gate
Just push the climate knob that says auto.I didn't know about the auto temp mode. I'll have to look for that.
You're right that I shouldn't label something as "needs improvement" just because I don't like it. That's a product of my "Minnesota Nice" culture, I suppose. Nothing is ever bad, it just needs improvement.Love your list! Have a few thoughts and questions.
I also disabled snow/ice alert (Ontario) and rear occupant alert. I don't see those as in need of improvement though. It's great to have choices.
Improvement for me: I would like the default position of the auto stop/start to be off. But I have learned to turn it off when I start the car and don't think about it any more. And I understand the default setting from the manufacturer's POV.

Can you use the voice feature to enter a new navigation destination? I once used it to locate a Kia dealership I'd never been to before when I went to pick up an accessory. Worked great. But I'm not sure how good it is overall, as that was my only attempt.
Yah, I don't use UVO. And I haven't taken enough trips to test the nav system much. Also curious if others use the voice option. You're right that I shouldn't label something as "needs improvement" just because I don't like it. I would also love for the auto stop/start to be off. The manufacturers could certainly choose to do that, but they're incentivized to make the default on, so that'll never happen.
I haven't had much luck using voice to select a navigation destination. But I've avoided UVO so far, and I'm guessing that would improve things. Perhaps others could comment.
Okay, that's funny and pretty obvious. I have always viewed that as "auto defrost" for some reason, I think bc any time I have pushed it, it seems like all the fans go up to max and gale force winds are unleashed.Yes I know. As a person who came from a fairly low-tech car, I find this feature magical! This is a small thing, but love that I can use the overhead view to know I am precisely in my parking spot as I habitually use pull through parking spots for safety. I use this feature all the time!
This is one feature that made me want the SX but the prices was too much so I settled for EX-P. That was a better fit financially. This is a small thing, but love that I can use the overhead view to know I am precisely in my parking spot as I habitually use pull through parking spots for safety. Me too. Even a small thing like being nicely centered in a spot might help prevent a few door dings in parking lots. This is a small thing, but love that I can use the overhead view to know I am precisely in my parking spot as I habitually use pull through parking spots for safety. Unavoidable, I suppose. PPF helps, but so does keeping your distance!Door dings are the worse![]()
