• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... Has anyone purchased a SX prestige telluride and had it blacked out by a detail auto shop ? Do you even recommend doing this ?

Are you aware Kia sells a Nightfall package with SXP models that will black out trims for you from factory?

If you still prefer to have the trim blacked out yourself after the fact, there are members in this forum who have either DIY themselves or had a professional do it. Since the nightfall package wasn’t available for the 2020 model, or because some didnt like the grill or wheels that come with the nightfall package. Just need to mention where you are located for other members to recommend nearby shops.

I live in Long Island, NY. I prefer the knightfall package, but it is so difficult locating it in everlasting silver

There are a few members here that have done it , you can also get the Nightfall Kia badges from your dealer and maybe sal has them here

Have you checked out this thread on how to buy a Telluride?

Three Different Ways to Acquire a Telluride

Nightfall packages at one point were being produced at the highest rate from the factory so it made it relatively easier to get the one you want, and faster to order one compared to non-nightfall. Not sure if this is still the case.

If you are willing to travel to pickup out of town or out of state it should make your search easier too. I would recommend using failcat referenced in that thread.

Thank you, I’m still trying to learn how to navigate this forum. I do feel saving money is worth the drive :)

Welcome! I grew on up Long Island. :) I'll move this to the exterior section.
I’m trying to figure out how to navigate this forum; I will blame it on my age, not to tech savvy. Can you tell me what is failcat? Is this a dealer?

Can you tell me what is failcat?

Failcat is a resource that a few members on this forum setup to aggregate Tellurides in production from the Kia servers online.

You use it as a tool to search the country for the specific trim of Telluride you are looking for. Use the filters at the top of each column to narrow your search. For example, filter results to show SX AWD Prestige Nightfall. You can also filter colors and states you are willing to buy from.

Once you find a specific serial/vin number for the unit you want to buy, click on the dealer code and reach out to that specific dealer. Ask if the VIN is not already belonging to another buyer, then start negotiating the purchase of the vehicle if is not already spoken for.

Several members in this forum have had success buying a Telluride this way. Some benefits of failcat include:
  1. VIN’s are only generated once the Kia manufacturing process has begun, so saves a little bit of time in the waiting/ordering process.
  2. Gives you the advantage of reserving a car that the dealer will be receiving before it even gets to their lot.
  3. Some dealers are willing to sell without markup for cars in production. Versus once it already arrives on their lot, they will generally add additional markup for increased profits as the market demands are still very high.
If you do use the failcat tool, consider donating to the creators of the tool using the link on that website. Also avoid checking multiple times a day for optimal server performance.

Most importantly, do not share the failcat website to dealers or other Kia employees since this is a powerful bargaining tool for buyers specifically. Do not post on any public forums (aside from this one). Only share the resource with other prospective Telluride buyers for them to have buying power.

Some additional background:

Love the current Holiday theme. And a reminder that VINs are scraped once in the morning to pick up the previous day's additions and then later in the day for any missed. No need to check failcat more than once a day. Generally, you will see VINs updated in bulk Tuesday through Saturday.....this covers the Monday through Friday production.

For more info on failcat you can use the search function at the top right of the forum page.

Got it! I love the filters and totally agree the creator does deserve some eggnog with perhaps 2 splashes of rum! 🥃😋

I wonder if the fact I ordered NF but non-prestige SX had anything to do with my relatively short (53 days) wait?

Most definitely. When the new NF trims were being produced, they were making up a majority’s of the dealer allocations. Some months they produced substantially more nightfall than non-nightfall. Which left a lot of non-nightfall orders waiting in in the dust.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE, That thread was AN EYE OPENER, similar to my owl image🙃

I just received a 2021 SX, white nightfall edition with butterscotch interior and second row captains chairs. I purchased it from the Kia dealer in Coral Springs, Florida. Most dealers in Massachusetts are overcharging due to the popularity of the Telluride. I used the Costco buying service to locate a dealer who was willing to allow me to custom order mine at MSRP. I had it shipped to Massachusetts and got it yesterday!. The Costco program in general holds dealers to a higher level with none of the typical run around. This is my 3 purchase through the program.

Congratulations! Looks great. How much under MSRP did you save by ordering and having shipped? You are right that there are still dealers in MA charging over MSRP but there are also severa delivering at MSRP minus incentives.

COSTCO, interesting; like you say they have a reputation to think of. I can’t wait to look into this tomorrow.

I just went on the CostcoAuto website and it said no dealers were selling in my area, so I called the auto program directly and was told the all Costco auto dealers in the US have now opted out of selling Kia Tellurides 😞

Kia of Munice sells with the Costco discount. You may have to wait a while, though

I just called Nutley NJ Kia, they informed me to many customers are coming in from NY and they prefer NOT to sell out of state. I mentioned I was referred to Nutley Kia, but they wanted the name of the referral ! I told them I was not comfortable giving out a name unless I spoke to the friend/referral first and got permission. They said they may make an exception if they have a name!

I see buying a E. Silver SXP Nightfall Telly is going to take some work. Dealers in FL have agreed to sell me a Telly, but I was just hoping to find a dealer in driving distance. But I’m not giving up yet.😅
