• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 14.10 update (November 2020) now available

It is, but be sure to read through this thread. A lot of unhappy customers. I'm not updating.
Some wise person once said to me:
Hey dude, change happens. I adjusted my bookmark to the new system. Muscles respond well to re-training. Time passes and life carries on! :)
:P

Ha ha! There's change we can control and change we can't. And luckily, we get to decide when we have control. I think the forum has changed well and that just means adjusting habits. Shitty software changes that can be avoided are best avoided.

I don't understand. I never have to deal with sounds of nature. Does it turn on all the time for you? Do you listen via bluetooth or carplay/AA? Try tune to a radio station first, then your BT/CP/AA. When it disconnects from BT/CP/AA, it will fall back to radio instead of SoN.

when I get in and hit the media button to activate Bluetooth it selects sounds of nature 1st. It’s awful.

If you don’t hit the media button at all. Let the phone pair as it does normally, and start the music app on your phone does it not switch to bluetooth audio source automatically?

Or set your “Mode” button to bluetooth audio on the steering wheel and press that button instead?

Trying to do it hands free. I use the other programmable buttons already. I’ll maybe change those.

You can program the steering wheel mode button to skip modes you don’t want.

For example, I don’t listen to AM, FM, or satellite radio. So I unchecked those and now don’t have to cycle through them if I use the mode button.

One nice thing about the Telluride is that it remembers your last input source. So if you turn off the car with CarPlay or Bluetooth audio running, it will look for that when you start the next time. So really, if you only use Bluetooth audio, you shouldn’t have to be punching through modes in the first place.

UPDATE - I contacted the Kia Customer Assistance the other day about the recent 14.10 update and they pointed me to Hyundai MnSOFT (they control updates for Hyundai and Kia). According to MnSOFT, we should not update the 2021 Telluride with this 14.10 version - Not sure why they would give this version to the 2020's and not the 2021's. Makes no sense to me.

I requested a link to download the original 2021 Telluride version so I can reinstall it and they stated they don't have one and that I should contact my Kia dealer. I haven't done that as I doubt they will be able to help me.

I think we are SOL until MnSOFT issues a 2021 Telluride update that I hope is way better than the 14.10 version.

Probably has been the same “official” statement they’ve been told to say since update 14 came out. 2021 infotainment units are same as 2020, and 2021 owners have been installing the 2020 model updates no problem for the last three updates. Kind of weird how the numbering scheme went from 14.0 to 14.5 to 14.10

When they eventually do realease updates officially for the 2021 models on the update.kia.com and mnsoft websites, I am sure it will still be the same files as you can get for the 2020’s.

Extreme wishful thinking, but maybe they realize that the new interface sucks and they're not comfortable with a potential impact on 2021 Telluride buying decisions. Speaking personally, the infotainment system is a big deal for me and I'd struggle with that radio interface and the overall strange purple theme. Especially when comparing to some of the luxury SUVs that some Telluride buyers are considering.

I summitted a complaint on the following website regarding 14.1 update. Online Support | Official Kia Motors Navigation Update Website. I said they should go back to the custom widget interface or provide a lot more customization to the home screen.

I got a response very quickly with a request for photos. I replied with the attached.

I suggest others issue complaints to push this along.

I submitted the following to the above link, as well as https://ksupport.kiausa.com/ConsumerAffairs/

It‘s always good to vote with letters. I imagine the new looks and interface are attractive to some, but I’m not sure if Kia/Hyundai intended to make it less so for many others. I find the new interface less useful, not more, and far too different than the original.

“Greetings. I really like the Telluride, however upon updating the nav software, there have been made some significant changes which detract from the overall experience. The display was a key feature of this vehicle. It was simple, clear, ergonomic, useful, and attractive. I am afraid that the new update injected so many changes, that it has detracted from all of those. That is not the vehicle I purchased. In short, I would like to revert to the original interface however that doesn’t seem possible.
The new radio display is not my style, and takes up too much room with unnecessary graphics which get tiresome. A simple display like before was perfect. There are other issues with the radio interface which make it cumbersome and confusing to operate. I am sure when presented to the average person, they would find it convoluted and confusing, and not something that should be fiddled with while driving.
The Home Screen is too simple. While pretty, there is no customization possible like before. And the map, being far to the right, is outside of the driver’s line of sight. To say nothing with respect to the purple/magenta colors throughout, which is not visible with certain eye ware/vision issues. Option for white please.
There are several other issues I have with the interface. The reality is that the update does not allow for customization, and was set up to be too confusing to the casual operator, and a reversion option should be offered.
Thank you.”

Already got a response on images. Let’s get some more people on this...

Response from Kia...
Thank you for those images. I will be passing this on to our engineering team and see if we get any similar reports from other owners. I will also see if there are any options we can help you with in the mean time. Thank you for your patience.

Concerning the wasted space, the way I see it, the home screen is just that, a home screen and it is not mean to replace the full fledge map option. The home screen is the default screen when not using the head unit.

If you actively need a map, then click on the MAP button for a full fledge map.

But why take away a home screen that WAS useful. I could see my map, my radio info and weather all in one screen. This new home screen is not only pretty much useless, but it encourages more clicking while driving to go from one screen to another. Just my opinion of course.

I think you're right, sadly. I am kicking myself for doing this update. I hope they issue another update soon that will restore some of the functionality lost like ability to have 3 different widgets on the Home screen instead of just a mostly blank screen with 3/4 wasted space. Also, give us back the previous radio UI! Thos are two biggies.

I think the lessons learned from this update should be:
  1. Don’t update your head unit’s software unless you have fully read and understand the changes in the release notes. Or read through all the posts from owners in this thread that shared their screenshots an feedback who have already performed the update.
  2. If you perform the update willingly without waiting for release notes or reading feedback posts, be prepared to be the guinea pig or “beta tester” and experience all the problems that may come with the update.
  3. Be fully aware that there has never been an option to revert or roll back head unit software updates. And there likely never will be. There is also usually a very clear disclaimer before performing the update that it isn’t possible to undo.
Judging from the success of the petition for 2020 remote starters, Sign the Petition, a petition for reverting or releasing another update before the next scheduled release (around April 2021) has about the same chance.

All that said if you want to provide suggestions for future updates. There is a small possibility the Kia software engineers will listen and incorporate into the next version. Just don’t bet on it.

Guys, who has the previous version?
Can you send it?
Updated, but did not save previous files by mistake. The new version is just awful.
I have the v14 update from back in april (v14.5 was the same infotanment but slightly newer maps) on my google drive. The mods didnt like me posting it to people because the updates back then cost $25 for a usb stick- Maybe I can post now since they are free?
Anyways, I doubt it will let us go back to an old version.
I also contacts kia/mapnsoft today to complain about this update- mostly hated on the new home screen and radio (especially for siriusxm info)
