• Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my SUV" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your leather interior, please post in the Interior section - and so on... 14.10 update (November 2020) now available

I have the v14 update from back in april (v14.5 was the same infotanment but slightly newer maps) on my google drive. The mods didnt like me posting it to people because the updates back then cost $25 for a usb stick- Maybe I can post now since they are free?
Anyways, I doubt it will let us go back to an old version.
I also contacts kia/mapnsoft today to complain about this update- mostly hated on the new home screen and radio (especially for siriusxm info)
I am sure admin will be fine with you posting it since the update is free. Although the update could possibly downgrade without any modification, I think you may be able to fool the system by modifying the version number. That is a big risk someone has to take if they want the old version bad enough.

Another response. They seem to be taking this seriously. Keep sending feedback to Kia if you agree this update needs a rollback or major tweaking to Home Screen.

Kia response:
I have heard back from our engineering team. We are escalating this issue to Hyundai Motor Company to try and find a solution from our quality team there. I will let you know when we receive a response from them. Thank you for your patience and for informing us of this issue.

I am normally a thorough reader of the manual, release notes, etc. Since there weren't any and the ordering of the home icons was killing my "OCD" (first slot was missing an icon and couldn't realign to fill the hole) I updated without the notes being available. Boy do I regret it. I was really hoping for weather that worked (I AM paying for the subscription and don't have weather), album art, and the like to improve the experience. This went 50% in the wrong direction. I do like some of the new options and settings, like the profile concept, etc. I have submitted feedback to Kia as well using the link provided earlier from another user. Keep providing the feedback to Kia!

I asked for album are on Sirius back on the April update - I would absolutely LOVE that. The 2 things I liked about this update is that album art now shows on Bluetooth audio and the profiles.

How did you contact them? Through the owners portal or email? I want to contact them also to complain. Maybe if enough of us do they will undi the mess they created.

I summitted a complaint on the following website regarding 14.1 update. Online Support | Official Kia Motors Navigation Update Website. I said they should go back to the custom widget interface or provide a lot more customization to the home screen.

I got a response very quickly with a request for photos. I replied with the attached.

I suggest others issue complaints to push this along.

After seeing that, there's no way I'm updating til they do something better.

I think the lessons learned from this update should be:
  1. Don’t update your head unit’s software unless you have fully read and understand the changes in the release notes. Or read through all the posts from owners in this thread that shared their screenshots an feedback who have already performed the update.
  2. If you perform the update willingly without waiting for release notes or reading feedback posts, be prepared to be the guinea pig or “beta tester” and experience all the problems that may come with the update.
  3. Be fully aware that there has never been an option to revert or roll back head unit software updates. And there likely never will be. There is also usually a very clear disclaimer before performing the update that it isn’t possible to undo.
Judging from the success of the petition for 2020 remote starters, Sign the Petition, a petition for reverting or releasing another update before the next scheduled release (around April 2021) has about the same chance.

All that said if you want to provide suggestions for future updates. There is a small possibility the Kia software engineers will listen and incorporate into the next version. Just don’t bet on it.
That is so true. I usually do update devices like this regardless of negatives just for fun if nothing else, and I knew I wouldn’t like it as much as the previous version after reading posts here and elsewhere, but I don’t hate it. And I was under the impression that the map/navigation was updated as well, which makes the update a good choice if one uses it. Objectively speaking, without regard to aesthetics, the usability is not as simple in my own personal opinion, and it is not as ergonomic for me (some touch display buttons are very small and hard to select while driving). My elderly mother caught onto the older version easier. However the profiles are a very good idea. But this wasn’t a ‘beta’ version, and I almost never do those kind of updates. This was a final release, and cars will be coming off the assembly line with it, and I am a little disappointed but that’s ok. The display is such a showpiece for these newer vehicles, and companies understand that they can be a deciding factor in the purchase, certainly so for Kia/Hyundai vehicles right now. I take a brighter view and think Kia does listen to their customers and I think thoughtful and useful feedback is important to them—this is not a petition. I’m certain feedback is what caused them to incorporate the remote start on the 2021 key fob for example, and the 7 pin hitch connector, etc. What changes in the next update is anybody’s guess though. If they change it back similar to the old version in six months after getting accustomed to this, we’ll probably all be griping about that too! Such is progress. This is my third modern Kia—I’m a big fan and hope to stay that way.

Did the update last week but only got to play around for a few minutes, I actually didn't notice the tri-window home screen was dropped then again I rarely used it, but the new one is damn handsome and modern. I think the main aesthetic is great way forward, I kinda felt the previous ui looked dated and the colors just meh. The one grope I have is the radio interface, it was cool for 30 seconds until I realized how out of place it is compared to the rest of the system. Now I knew I saw that radio interface before and going through past reviews I found it on daddy Doug's review of the K5, so I tried to find a review of the new Sorento, but looks like only low trims are out in NA, so no NA reviews are up yet, does look like higher trims with the 10.25" are out overseas so was able to snag a view on those vids, the radio ui is the same but the "tubes" are replaced with a channel banner, so maybe tweaks are already under way?
I joined in the email Kia fun, but to ask if we'd get release notes or even an updated manual. I mentioned how lame the radio ui was too.

I understand this is primarily a 'Navigation Update' but am I able to update my LX with this?

Nope, there is no way for customers to update non-navigation systems.

MnSoft at least should get credit for answering each email, here's what I got::
At this time we do not currently have the release notes for the new update available. We are in the process of translating them from the manufacturer. I do appreciate your patience in this matter. I will also pass on that you are displeased with the radio's new appearance to our engineering team, and see if we can have this changed in a future update. Your feedback is appreciated on this issue.

I'll pass on the update as well and I am still hoping on a few things in the near future:
1. When running nav or media covering 2/3 of the screen the 1/3 portion to the right is not active-not sure why that's the case
2. Need to have option of getting rid of the sounds of nature. Like others mentioned, hit your media button and 9 times out of 10 this is activated.
3. Wish they would allow 2/3 of the screen to be apple and other 1/3 to be whatever I want-right now I don't see that as an option. I've seen a few review of the GV80 and G80 and it appears that functionality is there.
4. My favorite button on the steering wheel does not seem to pull up anything but XM and I've selected the option for FM and a few others with no success-maybe I'm missing something.

1. What exactly do you mean by "not active"? You can still make selections and do things with that side of the screen (including swiping through the different options you have chosen).
2. There isn't an easy off button for this, but an easy fix is to go to setup > button, and under steering wheel mode button, uncheck it. Then you can use your steering wheel mode button to change between the modes you choose and it will skip sounds of nature.
3. With Apple CarPlay, you can either take up the entire screen or 2/3 of the screen, depending on your preference. Setup > device connections, choose CarPlay. Check or uncheck split screen. If you check split screen, CarPlay will only take up the 2/3 portion and you will have the split screen options available to you.
4. What do you mean by "favorite button on the steering wheel"? There is not a favorite button on the steering wheel. Like I mentioned above, you can check the list of things that are cycled through when you choose your steering wheel mode button. Set it up to your liking.

Did you try tapping the tiny arrow on the far right edge of the screen?

Pretty sure he meant the Mode button that toggles audio sources. Which you explained how to adjust in your first point.

@Kyle @Lith_SXPN @ohmykia Have you guys given this a try?
  1. Hit Media button twice to see all media source options.
  2. Press and hold on the icons to change order.
  3. Move Sounds of Nature to the end of the list then tap OK to finish.

I’m not sure if this changes priority or just visual locations of the icons.

@Tellthemride Thanks, but I do not have issues with SoN. My car behaves as it should. :P

Thanks for feedback..

1. the 1/3rd screen is not active besides swiping...If i'm on maps and music to the right i cannot pause or select that section with my finger and have it fast forward, etc. I can vertically scroll thru it.
2. I have not moved the priority but will try that....If I could I would just delete it.
3. I've not had luck getting the 1/3rd of the non-apple CarPlay to work....I'll try it again-sure it is user error:)
4. Correct-mode button-I've selected the options I want and it does not pull up FM/AM....I toggle the mode button on wheel and it comes up to XM radio only-i hit it again and it does not move to the next option, like USB, etc. I'll try again and make sure I'm doing it but I ran thru it a few times.

btw....saw in one of the new Sorento and I think G80 car reviews, they've moved the favorite button way to the left and closer to the driver-smart move.

This link "sign the petition" has nothing to do with the software update. It is for the key fob remote start.

It was offered as a comparison. The best recourse seems to be to submit feedback so that your voice is heard.

Latest response below. Make sure to send them your thoughts and we can probably get some good changes for spring update. The most important thing to me is map updates and these user interfaces come with map updates so we need to keep things in check to get our updated maps and not lose user interface controls and visuals we like...

Kia:
I just came back from our weekly meeting with our engineering and supervisory team. Many customers have also voiced the way they dislike the display on the generation 5 wide models. I just wanted to let you know your voices are being heard. I cannot make any promises, but I expect this may be something is addressed. I would reach out to us in the spring to see if the new update removes some of these features.
