Has any one placed two orders at 2 different dealerships at once to see what comes in faster?

I ordered one back at the end of the beginning of the month that I believe has a small number of allotments each month. I inquired at the middle of the month if my order when in and she replied it is and in, and she would let me know once she got the invoice and once she has it would be about 10 days but its a good 2-3 month process.

Wouldn't I get some kinda of ETA other than 2-3 months if it was picked up my KFOS?

I have two orders in. I'm waiting to see which gets built first, and then I will cancel the other once the first one is slated to be built. I'm sure there are lots of people in this same boat, so it's probably quite a hassle for dealers that are willing to take orders, but also a good situation to be in sales-wise. I know of a dealer in Utah that has a $2000 non-refundable deposit. I'm sure this is to discourage people from putting in multiple orders and backing out. But the three other dealers I've tried are $500 refundable deposits. Some dealers wont even take orders, probably because they dont want to deal with maintaining these lists and replying to emails and phone calls constantly about status updates.

From what I understand, I think dealers refer to the "order being in" as in entered into "Kdealer." It means it's a standing order waiting to get picked up by KFOS. When picked up by KFOS, the dealer will be notified it has been picked up and the vehicle will be scheduled for production. Depending on the allocations allotted to that dealer each month and the number of people in line in front of you with the same trim ordered, it could be weeks or months between when your order in Kdealer gets picked up by KFOS. So you're almost certainly in Kdealer, but not yet picked up by KFOS.

$2000 non-refundable deposit is robbery!
Jerry Seiner in S Jordan doesn’t even require a deposit and they’re MSRP if you finance at the dealership.

I thought about it but decided against it. While it would help you make sure you get one fastest, if everyone does this I feel it will clog down the system and inevitably lead to longer waits for other people that order and/or more uncertainty about timelines. I mean I have I think 9 dealerships within about a 2 hour drive, so I could put down refundable deposits in numerous places. But what a cluster it would be if everyone is doing the same. But that's just my view, I'm sure a lot of others feel differently.

Jerry Seiner is the one I was told is requiring the $2K non-refundable, but will order at MSRP. This was second hand, but from someone in Utah I was helping hunt one down. 🤷‍♂️
Is that where you ordered? Maybe they've changed their policy. Or maybe I got bad info or communication mixup.

I did order there, so far it’s been a decent experience, my salesperson has text me a couple times letting me know where I am on the list and a change in color and options was no problem. No deposit and quoted a 4-6 month wait. I have a KDealer confirmation number.

thank you all.

I agree with @throckmorton about not reserving multiple vehicles. Do the work to find the right deal, right price, and right time line. I reserved mine and then had other dealers reach out that had what I wanted coming in a week to three weeks soon. Crazy me... I could have gotten one this week. But I said no thanks. I really like my salesperson, dealership choice, and their service department (walked through it to see them in action).

I am originally a Utahn. Moved to Ohio 8 years ago, love it here but I am looking forward to driving to Utah with my Telly this summer.

When I told my dad about my new car search, he thought I was crazy. He drove to Young Kia in Utah to go see one. LOL he thought he could walk on the lot a buy one. The manager was driving an S trim so he got to see one. They told him in February it was a 12 month wait for an SX trim.

I have heard a dealership in Utah has some how been getting and selling Canadian versions which are slightly different from US versions.

Doug Smith dealership is a place my family has used numerous times and I have seen people post in the good dealership thread about them.

With the current time lines around the country and the upcoming switch to 2022, depending on the trim level, it could be a long wait.

Good luck Telly Tracking.

Murdock is selling the Canadian Tellurides, but they don’t have a Kia dealership… so they’re selling them at their Chevy and Other dealerships. What is weird, or unfortunate for buyers is that they are being sold as used even though some have very few miles. Carfax shows them having spent some time in Detroit in between their original Canadian owners and heading to Utah. Good luck with warranty service if you buy one of those. They also don’t come with black wheels if you get SX. Pretty fishy.

No cool they are taking advantage of people. My mom retired from AFCU she saw a few fishy deals from them over the years.

Where I was going with the issue of them selling used vehicles, is that I feel like unsuspecting people may think that they are being sold as new, priced as new and Kia has reduced warranty for used vehicles.
Not to mention the fact that I don’t believe Canadian cars hold any warranty in the United States.

I put my order in at the end of February and have been tempted a couple of times to order from another dealer but won't. For me, I can wait, and I'm okay with the price I'm paying. I'm going with a local dealer and want to have a relationship with them. I could get it cheaper and faster by shipping, but I'd pay more sales tax without my trade-in. Frankly, I'm not too fond of car buying and want to have a decent feeling at the end of the process.

Guess I’ll just keeping failcat. The GM wasn’t very helpful. And the salesperson is nice but she couldn’t even tell me when I was ordered.

The GM said “There is no concrete update to share. The orders are moving very slow right now with so many material shortages all over the world. Your order is entered in the order it was received and is place with Kia on our portal. The KFOS system is allocation that we receive monthly to cover orders in the system. That will come up the 2nd or 3rd week each month. But we also have weekly system allocations that cover many of our orders.
Please check back any time for a potential update with me or your sales consultant.

I think that's pretty helpful. Basically says, "your order has been submitted on our side, Kia Manufacturing hasn't picked it up yet. Things are moving slowly but we'll let you know when there's an update."

Same situation as many of us.

I guess maybe I was misunderstanding what KFOS is/was

Have you run into any issues with one or both orders being kicked out? I've read elsewhere that Kia may reject multiple orders placed by the same individual.

The thread I recall discussing this was referring to two orders at the same dealership, though there could be other threads I’m not aware of.

I have more than one order at different dealerships, and each dealership is aware of the other order. Neither one batted an eye at the notion of having orders at multiple dealerships, nor did they give any indication of potential pushback from Kia.

Exactly, makes everything a mess for others. You create an artificial demand that means otherS get longer order times.
